Trivia / Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Go To

  • Ascended Fan Nickname: Golden Freddy started off as a Fan Nickname, with the first game referring to his sprite as "yellowbear" internally. This game's Custom night calls the character Golden Freddy.
  • Ascended Meme:
    • One poster of Freddy reads "U Ready?", in reference to the "Are you ready for Freddy" meme.
    • In the original game's Custom Night, playing with all the robots on maximum difficulty was given the Fan Nickname of "4/20 Mode". The sequel's Custom Night has a setting entitled "20/20/20/20", which only activates the old robots but sets them to maximum difficulty.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Notice how feminine the Puppet's facepaint looks? The word "marionette"note  originally means "the little, little Mary", and used to refer to images of the Virgin Mary. Given the Give Gifts, Give Life game, this may be intended on more than one level.
  • Creator Cameo: Yep, Scott Cawthon reprises his role as Phone Guy. And what about his fate in the original? This game is actually a prequel.
  • Dummied Out: A texture of the Puppet with a marionette's cross and strings (as seen in the children's drawings) exists, but they are never seen in gameplay, possibly because the Puppet is rarely seen out of her box and it would take some exposition to explain how she traverses the Pizzeria with them. The Security Puppet item in Pizzeria Simulator does have these, however.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!: If Mangle's electronic static sounds familiar, you might be a member (be it current or former) or fan of the military — it's telemetry from an unmanned drone, including a few words from the drone's controller.
  • Ironic Nursery Rhyme:
    • You notice the children's voices singing "London Bridge is Falling Down" in the trailer? There's a bit more to the song than most kids learn, including this little gem:
Set a man to watch all night,
      Watch all night,
      Watch all night.
Set a man to watch all night,
      My fair lady.
    • This is followed, nicely enough, by a verse asking what happens if the man should fall asleep...
    • As you might have guessed, a seldom-used verse of the Marionette's attack music ("Pop Goes the Weasel") also makes sense in context:
Ev'ry night when I get home,
      The monkey's on the table.
Take a stick and knock it off,
      Pop! goes the weasel!
    • In addition, "Pop Goes the Weasel" was originally part of a dancing game related to musical chairs. When the lyrics say "Pop!", you need to find a dancing circle to be in — one Weasel to a circle — or you're out.
  • Release Date Change: At first, the game was going to be released in 2015; it was then moved up to December 25th. Scott said on November 10th that he was going to release a demo on the following day, but then he encountered problems when trying to release it, and so he decided to just release the full game right away. A number of people argue that this was a bad thing and the game still needed to be polished, particularly the killscreens, which seem less detailed than in the original game.
  • Word of God:
    • Scott firmly jossed MatPat's theory of Phone Guy being Purple Man.
    • Scott confirmed MattPat got "Almost everything right" in his theory on the game. Most notably, this theory proposed Phone Guy was the killer, though this has since been confirmed as why he said ALMOST.
