Trivia / Eric Clapton

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: While already having success with a number of groups like The Yardbirds, Cream, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Derek and the Dominos, he was able to have a number of hits as a solo artist, typically a lot more than most of the other members of the groups he was in (give or take Jimmy Page's work in another group).
  • Creator Breakdown: After the death of his son, Conor, in 1991. He came back with "Tears in Heaven".
    • And "Layla", his way of shouting out the pain from his unrequited love to Pattie Boyd, then-wife of his buddy George Harrison.
      • What's more, he's admitted that pretty much everything he wrote for Derek and the Dominos is about Patti in some way.
  • Rarely Performed Song: His 1992 Grief Song "Tears in Heaven" was written for his 4-year-old son Conor, who died after falling from an apartment window. Come 2004, however, Clapton has stopped performing the song, citing being able to cope with the loss and no longer needing it. He additionally no longer performs his 1998 song "My Father's Eyes", which was inspired by growing up never knowing his father, for similar reasons.
  • Uncredited Role: He played an uncredited guitar solo on The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
