Trivia / Dreamfall Chapters

Go To

Beware of unmarked spoilers further down the page.

  • Development Hell: The game was announced in 2007 but wasn't released until 2014. That's longer than it took to deliver the original Dreamfall after The Longest Journey, except this time, Tørnquist apparently had the whole plot gathering dust for six goddamn years.
  • Follow the Leader: This game features a good number of Story Branching choices, popularized by Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series in 2012. This is not a bad thing at all. Some players of both products found the similarities more appealing, and a few even believe that they did a few aspects about the Telltale formula better than Telltale.
  • Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: Several collector's editions of ever-increasing size have been offered as Kickstarter incentives, with the Draic Kin Edition definitely taking the cake.
  • Lying Creator: Despite promises that a stealth mechanic wouldn't be present in the game, due to the criticism it received in Dreamfall, stealth sections do appear in Books 2 and 4, though they are a lot simpler and more forgiving compared to the ones in Dreamfall. It is even Lampshaded, as getting discovered unlocks an achievement named "I thought there wouldn't be stealth!"
  • Missing Trailer Scene: The 2013 trailer which consists of mostly pre-alpha footage, and an alternate design for Zoe, also features a brief appearance of Benrime (the owner of the tavern "The Journey Man"). Said character never appears in the game, and is only alluded to once when Crow reveals she's dead.
  • No Export for You: The final decision to have the game cut into episodes made things very difficult for quite a few foreign publishers, who ended up not being able to release the game in a particular language. One of those was Poland's cdp.pl who had already confirmed that the newest installment of the much beloved there saga would, just like the previous two, receive full Polish voice over. When Red Thread Games announced that the game would not be released as a single entity but rather split into chapters, CD Projekt had to pull the plug on the whole project. Ironically, while investigating the whole thing one of fans called the actress who had played Zoë in Dreamfall and she initially believed he was offering her to reprise her role in Chapters, which she was allegedly very enthusiastic about. The domestic fanbase, seeing as the game, part of a franchise that's widely considered the crowning achievement of the Norwegian gaming industry, expressed disappointment for not getting any Norwegian version at all (as opposed to the previous two) and was instead available only with English and German-speaking casts as well as with French subtitles. To make things worse, the latter two were notoriously released with massive delays compared to English.
  • The Other Darrin: Many actors were replaced, barring a few. Most characters from The Longest Journey keep their original voices. Zoe's change in voice is handwaved as being an after affect from spending so much time in a coma.
  • Role Reprise: While the other actors were replaced, Marion von Stengel reprised her role as Zoë in the German localization.
  • Same Character, But Different: Between games Kian's background goes from being a sheltered Naïve Newcomer whose likely never met a magical in person before, on his first assignment as an Apostle, to an experienced warrior who years ago killed Likho's father in front of him. He also has a new voice.
  • Schedule Slip: The Final Cut was intended to be released in March 2017, but was released in July after some of this. The Devs have made fun of this in the update.
  • Voice-Only Cameo: In the first episode, April Ryan appears on screen and in voice... but never at the same time, since her on-screen appearance is during her funeral, while her voice is heard by Kian while delirious from the wounds he sustained escaping from Friar's Keep.
  • Word of Gay: The developers had to confirm Kian was gay in a forum post after some dialogue with Enu brought up the question.
