- No Export for You: While the first game was fully localized and voice acted in Swedish and Dutch, no such versions were made for the sequel. Conversely, while the Italian version of The Longest Journey was only partially localized (Italian text with English voice acting), Dreamfall had full Italian voice acting.
- The Other Darrin: Depending on the version, some or most of the original voice actors reprised their roles as returning characters from the original The Longest Journey, but there were exceptions:
- While most of the English cast reprised their roles, Daryl Alan Reed replaced Mark Anthony Henry as Charlie.
- With the exception of Trond Brænne reprising his roles as Brian Westhouse and Roper Klacks, none of the other voice actors from the original game returned in the Norwegian version.
- In the Spanish version all characters were recast.
- Despite that the Russian localizations of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall were made back to back with the same stable of voice actors, Benrime Salmin was portrayed by a different voice actress in both games.
