Trivia / de Blob

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The second game, despite getting just as good reviews and being multi-platform, massively underperformed comercially, reportedly selling less then half of what the first game did on the Wii alone and possibly being a factor in THQ's decision to shut down Blue Tongue Entertainment six months later.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Lara Jill Miller as Comrade Black.
  • Dummied Out: Hidden in de Blob 2's files are themes for Toxic and an unused Inky theme. Toxic was going to be a selectable theme in the game, but THQ couldn't get the rights to use the song. It appears to have been cut late in development, as THQ was determined to have it in the game. It is unknown why the Inky theme was cut however.
  • Executive Meddling: de Blob 2 was originally being developed as a Wii exclusive like the first game until THQ suddenly wanted to also release it on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 under the same deadline to try expanding the series' reach. A programmer later expressed his disappointment that because this was decided mid-development when a good chunk of programming and design was already done with the specs of the Wii in mind, besides the better graphics and 3D compatibility they weren't able to take full advantage of the increased power of the other consoles unlike if the game was developed for them from the start or they had more time.

  • Throw It In!: 'de Blob' is actually Dutch for 'The Blob'. They kept the 'de' because it was distinctive and memorable, and still made sense in English.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A Nintendo DS port of the first game was planned, but was scrapped late in development. It was considered lost media for years until RebelTaxi uploaded a video showing his review copy of the game in 2023.
    • de Blob 2 has logos for Syfy Kids on the back of the game cases. There was plans for a de Blob cartoon to be made as part of the eponymous block on the channel as part of a plan to expand the franchise outside of the games, but plans for that fell though alongside the block altogether. The Syfy branding was removed in the 2017 remaster.
    • Early concept footage showed that Blob would've been able to grapple from hooks and ziplines.
    • In a 2017 interview with THQ Nordic development director Reinhard Pollice, it was revealed that before the original THQ's bankruptcy in 2012, they had an online multiplayer game in the early stages of development that was similar to Splatoon in concept.
  • Working Title: de Blob 2 was originally announced as de Blob: The Underground, with an early design of the menu also including the subtitle.
