See ya in prison!
-Chuck

Chuck Versus the Gobbler is the twelfth episode of Chuck's fourth season.

Chuck becomes worried when Sarah goes to extreme measures to help his mother take down Alexei Volkoff. Ellie and Devon have trouble deciding the name of their new baby.

This episode provides examples of:

  • The Chessmaster: Frustrated with Awesome dragging his feet over naming the baby, Ellie comes up with a plan. She tells Chuck about this perfect, unique name she's picked: Grunka. Horrified, Chuck runs to tell Awesome about the situation, and Hilarity Ensues as he drags the Buy More crew into an ill-conceived plan to change her mind. In the end, Ellie and Awesome settle on Clara.
Ellie: Little Clara Woodcomb. I can't believe you thought I was gonna name our baby Grunka. Grunka— the name of the spoons that I bought at IKEA. I had you going there for a minute, though.
    Awesome: Spoons?
    Ellie: Mm-hmm.
    Awesome: From IKEA?
    Ellie: That's right.
  • The Dreaded: Other prisoners are terrified of Yuri the Gobbler. Unsurprising when you consider why he's called that.
  • Either "World Domination", or Something About Bananas: Chuck and Sarah communicate with a system of computer tones while she's undercover.
Chuck: Right now she's saying she loves me... Or she's planning on buying a Buick. I can't really tell. It's a very confusing language.
  • Eye Scream: Yuri the Gobbler has Hydra, Volkov's entire database, on a drive hidden in his eye socket.
  • False Reassurance: Volkov isn't angry that Yuri endangered the whole of Volkov's network by getting captured, just disappointed. Very disappointed. Cue the Boom, Headshot!
Volkov: [To Mary and Sarah] Sorry. I have a hard time with disappointment.
  • Fanservice: Sarah in a catsuit.
  • How We Got Here: The opening shows Sarah and Casey in a fight that ends when Sarah drops Casey out of a window. When we catch up with the scene, we see she's been ordered to kill him as a test of loyalty to Volkov. The window is Casey's idea, as he can easily land on a window-cleaning rig partway down... which then collapses under his weight, dumping him the rest of the way. To add to the horror, Chuck sees the whole thing.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Yuri the Gobbler. As the name suggests.
Volkov: Sarah, we're going to have you break out Yuri the Gobbler. Now, don't ask why he's called that. [Sniggers] It's because he eats people!
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: You know Morgan is serious about Alex when the sight of her drinking orange juice and eating pizza in his rare, never-worn Back to the Future T-shirt is to bask in how great she looks in it.
  • Prison Episode: To prove her loyalty to Volkov, Sarah is given the task of breaking his man, Yuri the Gobbler, out of a maximum-security prison. She recruits the team for a plan that involves Chuck entering the prison as an inmate, beating Yuri in a fistfight, and helping her lug him out.
