- The development of the first game started in 1996 as Model 2 game titled Goofy Taxi! (based on Goof Troop and A Goofy Movie) in partnership with Disney before it moved to Model 3 in 1997 and was canceled in 1998 and reworked without Disney for the then-new Dreamcast-based Naomi arcade hardware.
- During the development of Crazy Taxi Next, the game was meant to have online multiplayer and an in-game day/night cycle. The concepts were dropped when the game was reworked into Crazy Taxi 3.
- Ever since the peak of its popularity, there have been several attempts over the years to create a film adaptation, but after going through various studios and hands, nothing has surfaced.
- Working Title: Crazy Taxi 3 was originally announced as Crazy Taxi Next.
