The cast of playable taxi drivers in the Crazy Taxi series of games.

General

  • All There in the Manual: As an arcade series, most of the backstories for the characters are mentioned in the console manuals.
  • Badass Driver: They're all top drivers, leaving customers to wonder why Gena and Bixbite aren't racing professionally. HOT-D was even a former stunt driver.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Part of their job description. It's part of why the job is so fun.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: We don't learn the names of drivers who use a nickname.
  • Secret Character: The West Coast cabbies serve as this in Crazy Taxi 2, who are all unlocked upon completing the Crazy Pyramid.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Played straight with Bixbite and Zax. In Crazy Taxi 3, other characters sporting shades will still be wearing them in the Small Apple and Glitter Oasis stages, which take place at night.

Axel

Voiced by: Brian Burton-Lewis
"All right, let's get it on!"

A carefree and crazy 21-year old guy with a hot and quick temper, Axel became a cabbie after going on a crazy taxi ride when he was ten years old, and considers it the coolest profession. He enjoys entertaining his customers while getting big tips in the process. After hours, Axel enjoys board sports, plays bass and vocals in a punk band and tries picking up women. But due to his explosive nature, bands usually kick him out and girls dump him. He has many friends and is usually a cheerful guy, but tends to pick fights for no reason.

  • Big "SHUT UP!": One of his retorts if a customer gets mad at him.
Axel: Got it, got it! Shhhuuut up!
  • Blood Knight: Enjoys picking fights without any particular reasons.
  • Brutal Honesty: Said to be refreshingly frank.
  • The Casanova: Spends his free time trying to pick up women. He gets dates, but his nature prevents him from maintaining decent relationships.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: His profile indicates he has a hot temper and nothing can stop him once he's mad.
  • Informed Attribute: Most information regarding his violent temper isn't reflected in gameplay.
  • Nobody Loves the Bassist: He tries playing in bands as a bassist and backup singer, but due to his wild nature he often gets kicked out.
  • Perma-Stubble: Has a bit of hair on his chin.
  • Punny Name: His name is a pun on an axle, a rod which is responsible for the wheels of a car to move.
  • Thrill Seeker: He became a cabbie for the thrills, and also enjoys surfing and snowboarding.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: His shirt's open and his chest and abs are always exposed.
  • Wolverine Publicity: Axel is the sole character depicted on many of the games' covers.

B.D. Joe

Voiced by: Kent Frick (Arcade, Dreamcast), Darrell Harris (Other ports, sequels, Sega Superstars series)
"Yeah, we're gonna have some fun!"

A funky and cheerful 25-year old cabbie, B.D. Joe likes entertaining people his own way with his driving and conversational skills. He's also an accomplished street performer, and can put musicians to shame using some trash lids and oil drums. Although many people recognize his skills and ask him to go pro, he finds being a cabbie too much fun and making people smile is enough for him. He's been learning card tricks as another means of making people's day.

  • Cool Shades: Always sports them.
  • Guest Fighter: Often appears in the Sega Superstars series representing the franchise.
  • Nice Guy: Always friendly and cheerful, and becomes a cabbie because he can make people happy.
  • Performance Artist: What he does on the side. Many wonder why he doesn't perform professionally.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Whether it's promo art or his in-game model, B.D. Joe always has a wide grin on his face.
  • Token Minority: The only African-American driver in the first game.

Gena

"Okay, let's play it cool!"

A 23-year old car lover best described as "cool" and "sexy", Gina becomes a cabbie so she can race around in her cab all day, and isn't as concerned whether her customers enjoy her driving or not. She's talented enough to become a professional racer, but loves the unexpected, something she only finds in driving fast in traffic-laden streets. When she's not driving her car, she's often working on it, and spends most of her time and earnings performing extensive tune-ups. Men are drawn to Gena's beauty and have tried to woo her, but either because she feels she has no time for them, or because the object of her affection is her one and only cab, she leaves them in the dust.

  • Dude Magnet: Guys are drawn to Gena's beauty, but she feels her time is better spent on her car.
  • Punny Name: Her name is a pun on "gear".
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female driver of the first game, and only female cabbie who works on the West Coast.
  • Thrill Seeker: Loves driving fast and racing, but feels professional racing doesn't have the same thrill as racing through traffic-laden streets.
  • Wrench Wench: When she's not driving in her beloved cab, she's often working on it.

Gus

Voiced by: Thomas King (Arcade, Dreamcast), Chris Peppler (Other ports, sequels)
"Okay, let's have some fun!"

The 42-year old original crazy cabbie. In his youth, Gus was a wild and uncontrollable hooligan and selfish to a fault. He hated to lose and had to be #1 at any cost. Fascinated by new things, he was drawn to unique trends, got a flash of inspiration and brought an old junked out 1955 jalopy, and began the Crazy Taxi trend. Outside of work, Gus meets with his poker buddies and gambles, and learned he didn't always have to win.

Big Apple (Crazy Taxi 2)

Slash

Voiced by: Alan J.
"All right, step on the gas. Don't ease up!"

Shoert-tempered, but cool and a bit insane, 25-year old Slash is usually a cool guy. Those that don't know him might say he's rude and irresponsible, but those that do say he's kind, takes care of his friends, and is looked up to as a leader. One would think Slash is surrounded by friends, but people who admire him are just as afraid of him because he's a man with two faces. He can easily get out of control, even over the smallest matters, and everyone around him becomes his enemy. Anyone who approaches him when he's angry is either a brave soul or a complete idiot. As long as you don't make him angry, Slash can be relied on to do his job really well, and his first-class driving skills have earned him a loyal following. Why did he become a taxi driver? No one knows, but people guess he did it on a whim.

Iceman

Voiced by: Dave Fromm
"Okay, let's kick it!"

With dark looks and a hint of madness, the 28-year old Iceman doesn't talk much and pays a compliment to no one. Nothing is impossible for him and he makes no mistakes; if something is wrong, something else must have caused it. His personality causes problems, and his jobs don't last very long because of it. One day, while driving his car, he saw an old man hitchhiking and gave him a ride, and was rewarded with a huge tip at the end for his technique and speed. The next day, he painted his car yellow and the rest is history. He drives his taxi just to get by, and spends his peaceful days with his beloved dog, a boxer named "BB".

  • Barbarian Long Hair: It goes past his shoulders, but has the look all the same.
  • Berserk Button: He doesn't make mistakes. Don't tell him otherwise.
  • Better with Non-Human Company: His personality has caused problems with his previous jobs, and prefers to spend time with his dog instead.
  • Can't Take Criticism: If you try, he'll stare you down and ask if you have a problem with how he's driving.
  • Never My Fault: He never makes mistakes. If he does, something else caused it.
  • The Stoic: Doesn't say much. Pay him a compliment and you can expect a brusque reply.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: Over six feet tall? Check. Dark skin and wears black? Check. Snarky towards customers? Definite check.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Doesn't wear a shirt on the job at all.

Cinnamon

Voiced by: Mibu Minami
"Okay, let's go for a drive!"

A sharp dresser and a cheerful person, Cinnamon is an 18-year old spunky girl, talented driver, and a veritable optimist. However, it's because of having a little too much optimistic thinking that she has trouble distinguishing right and wrong. When trouble arises, instead of thinking about how to improve for the future, she thinks she was fine and someone else caused the problem, and never learns from her mistakes. She is very forgetful, but because of her honest, caring attitude and cheerful disposition, no one in town dislikes her and her friends are always there for her. She became a cabbie because it gave her the chance to meet so many people every day and loves the praise that comes with it. While her personality brightens her customers, she often takes it too far.

  • Dumb Blonde: She's very social and optimistic, but is rather dim-witted.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her over-the-top optimism.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Despite her faults, no one in town dislikes her due to her cheerful and caring attitude.
  • Never My Fault: She makes no big deal of whatever problems she causes, and blames them on others when she was probably to blame.
  • Nice Girl: Always cheerful, polite and optimistic.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female driver of the second game (until Gena is unlocked), and the only female cabbie who works in the Big Apple.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Her policy is to always think optimistically, but she also makes light of the problems she causes and never learns from them.

HOT-D

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ct2_hotd.jpg

1G01
Voiced by: Marvin Dangerfield
"Okay, let's make a fast buck!"

The ultimate optimist, HOT-D is a cheerful 78-year old man who is extremely healthy for his age. His number one priority? Earn money. Number two priority? Getting a thrill. Previously a wild and crazy stunt driver, he was visiting the West Coast to film stunts for a big action movie when one of their crazy cabbies drove past him on the road, with skills that would impress even the most professional stunt driver such as himself. With his own superior skills, he caught up and took a ride, and got the idea of using his skills back East and make serious bank. He headed home, painted his cruisemobile, and thinking the drivers out west lacked lip service, he sought to improve his social talents to delight his customers, which could only bring in more bank. Although sometimes he gets too carried away in conversation and forgets where to drop them off, he's learned to calm down angry customers because they won't leave a tip otherwise.

  • Cool Old Guy: An old man who's just as energetic as the other young cabbies, sports shades and wears headphones.
  • Cool Shades: To emphasize how youthful he is.
  • Only in It for the Money: His philosophy in life: It's always about the green. Half the reason he became a cabbie.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Always sports a grin on his face.
  • Shout-Out: Possibly. His name shares the same letters as the initialism of Sega's House of the Dead series.
    • Though probably unintentional, he also bears an uncanny resemblance to Master Roshi.
  • Thrill Seeker: A former stunt driver who still loves the thrill at old age, and part of why he became a crazy cabbie.

Glitter Oasis (Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller)

Angel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ct3_angel.jpg

602FUN
Voiced by: Kevin Miller
"Yeah, let's party!"

An 18-year old party animal who relies on his instincts, which often gets him into trouble because he doesn't think about the consequences of his actions. He believes in living life to its fullest, with his motto being, "You only live once, so enjoy it." When he isn't enjoying life, he's thinking about how he can, going as so far to call his friends at three in the morning to see if they want to party or swim in the ocean. He's a positive person, but also a little too self-focused. Despite his crazy antics, his friends find it hard to hate him because he always considers them when he wants to have fun. He became a cab driver because it's a fun way to make a buck, and if he's not having fun, he's in a car and can go find something fun to do.

  • Camp Gay: Implied with some of Angel's mannerisms.
  • Fun Personified: Always seeking fun and enjoyment, though his antics can be a bit obnoxious.
  • Thrill Seeker: Definitely. Although he enjoys the thrill of driving a cab, unlike the other cabbies, he spends more of his time doing this outside of work.
  • 24-Hour Party People: A party animal who believes in living life to its fullest.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Doesn't sport a shirt.

Bixbite

Voiced by: David Nowlin
"All right man, let's break the speed limit!"

A 24-year old cabbie fascinated with speed, his biggest thrill is trying to see how fast he can go, and only feels alive when he's pushing himself and his car to the limit. Most people think he's quite ordinary, either unfriendly or with a lot on his mind, but he's actually storing up his energy for the next big thrill. Bixbite once had the opportunity to go into racing at 20 years old, with 10 sponsors trying to scout him due to his insane skills. While he could be successful, it would cost him his privacy. He went back and forth on it until his circuit buddies talked about some crazy driving in the West Coast. The thrill of being pushed to the limit, doing things you couldn't on the race track, while making money? That sounded exciting, and Bixbite ended up becoming a taxi driver.

Mrs. Venus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ct3_venus.jpg

475ONS
Voiced by: Marcie Henderson
"All right, let's have a good time!"

A 48-year old funky mother who supports seven kids and a husband, to say that Mrs. Venus is cheerful would be an understatement. She loves being happy and making everyone around her happy. She's the breadwinner of her family, and the only thing she loves as much as her family is her job, which allows her to meet all sorts of people and make them feel good about themselves. No one walks her cab feeling depressed and leave without feeling at least a little better. Her skills behind the wheel and love of driving came from her father, a stunt driver.

  • Big Fun: She's on the big side, but this funky mama wants everyone to have a good time.
  • Cool Old Lady: 48 years of age making her the second oldest driver only younger than Hot-D and drives taxis like a teenager while hoping everyone has a good time, also supports 7 kids and a husband.
  • Nice Girl: She loves being happy and loves making everyone else happy. Just make sure you don't complain too much.
  • Sassy Black Woman: She's always cheerful, but doesn't hesitate to tell complaining customers to shut their mouths.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female crazy cabbie in the Glitter Oasis, and only new female cabbie in 3.
  • To Be a Master: Her favorite quote: "It's my destiny to become the best taxi driver, and to do that, I need to make everyone happy."

Zax

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ct3_zax.jpg

260MAD
Voiced by: Kevin Blackton
"All right, let's do it!"

36-year old Zax has a tough demeanor that he wears with pride, and the only love in his life is his car. He never makes mistakes, he's always right, and he'll get in your face if you tell him otherwise. He loves driving his vehicle 24 hours a day, which is probably why he became a taxi driver. He maintains his car and is renowned for his hydraulic techniques. Many have visited him in hopes of learning from him, but he has no patience for them and kicks them out before they learn anything. Only once in his life has Zax been kind; when an elderly man poured his heart out to him and asked to learn his technique. It was the first and last time he ever taught his prized technique to anyone.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: In regards to his driving technique, he often boasts about how good he is.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tells his customers everything on his mind, and has no patience for them.
  • Can't Take Criticism: He hates it when his customers tell him what to do. As mentioned below, perhaps he can't take criticism unless he's the one doing it?
  • The Comically Serious: Zax is by far the most unpleasant driver in the series, but his tough guy attitude is so over-the-top that it makes him one of the most hilarious drivers in the whole cast.
  • Cool Shades: Sports a pair.
  • Grease Monkey: Renowned for his prized hydraulic techniques.
  • Jerkass: It's said that he's shown kindness to someone only once in his life. Zax only cares about his car and it shows.
  • Language Fluency Denial: If he's not doing so well, he'll respond to his customer's complaints with "Me no speak English!"
  • Never My Fault: Nothing's his fault. Ever. Subverted if he takes too long with a customer, sometimes he'll wonder what's wrong with him.
  • No Social Skills: He's pretty much the polar opposite of Cinnamon, and much worse than Iceman.
  • Pet the Dog: As mentioned in his bio, he taught an elderly man his prized technique in hydraulics, which is the only nice thing he's ever done for anyone.
