• Creator Backlash: As discussed on the DVD commentary, Dan Harmon was not a fan of this episode, despite admitting it had some funny moments.
• Defictionalization: There are currently hundreds of fans out there working on a real-life version of "Journey to the Centre of Hawkthorne".
• Hostility on the Set: This is the episode where the infamous feud between show creator Dan Harmon and Pierce's actor Chevy Chase began.
• Magnum Opus Dissonance: This is one of the most fondly remembered episodes of the show, but as stated above, series creator Dan Harmon was not a fan of it.
• What Could Have Been: The tag that was supposed to go with this episode ended up not being filmed owing to Creative Differences between Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase. It would have reportedly involved Abed rewriting the video game so that it allowed Pierce to play a game of catch with his dad, and his dad to shower Pierce with praise.
