- Completely Different Title: In other countries it was usually titled Bubble Jimmy or The Boy in the Balloon. The Greek release went with the rather interesting title of The Brave.
- Creator's Oddball: Out of Jake Gyllenhaal's filmography, this is the only movie that is an out-and-out low-brow comedy.
- Dawson Casting: Jake Gyllenhaal was 19 and 20 during filming, but his character Jimmy is 16. Marley Shelton was 26 during filming, but the DVD Commentary says that her character is 14 and 14 1/2 during the movie.
- Executive Meddling: According to Gyllenhaal, the original script was less of a regular comedy and more of a surreal movie with dark elements, but the studio interfered before shooting began. He added, ironically, that it was "pretty much equal to Donnie Darko in its oddity".
- Throw It In!: The suit was designed to cause Jake to fall over quite often. A lot of the times you see him fall are not planned.
