Trivia / Arrietty

Go To

  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Prominent in both the original Japanese (obviously), as well as the U.S. and the UK English dubs.
  • Defictionalization: A life sized version of Arietty's Hair clip/bow can be bought as a collectible and worn by fans of the Anime.
  • Dueling Dubs:
    • The film got two English dubs. The first was dubbed at London-based Optimum Releasing and was released in the UK and Australia in 2011. The second was dubbed at Lucas Valley, California-based Skywalker Sound, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and was released by Ghibli's then-licensor, Disney (in association with Pixar and Lucasfilm), in North America in 2012 under the title The Secret World of Arrietty. Both dubs are on the Japanese Blu-ray, though Disney's dub is used on HBO Max and Netflix, though the name of the film is simply "Arrietty".
    • The same goes for the Latin American Spanish dub, both produced in Mexico. The first one was recorded at Mexico City's Producciones Grande S.A. de C.V., released by Disney and starred Jessica Ángeles as the title character. For the second dub, it was recorded at Cuernavaca's Elefante Films, released by Zima Entertainment and starred Rossy Aguirre as Arrietty. The Mexico City dub was originally released in theaters and aired on television, while the Cuernavaca one was released on Blu-ray and DVD by Zima. In both dubs, Arturo Castañeda and Miguel Ángel Ruiz play Sho and Spiller, respectively.
  • Milestone Celebration: Arrietty was released 25 years after Studio Ghibli was founded.
  • No Export for You: Disney's Blu-ray only included their English dub. When GKIDS got the rights, it was speculated that they would be able to negotiate the rights to include the UK dub as well, but that was the case.
  • Playing Against Type: Comedic actor Will Arnett voicing the Harrison Ford-esque Pod.
  • Promoted Fangirl: French singer/songwriter Cécile Corbel became known to Ghibli filmmakers after she sent them a fan letter showing her love for their films along with a copy of "Songbook, Vol 2", at the time, her most recent album. After Toshio Suzuki (the film's head producer) listened to the CD, she received an e-mail asking her if she could write a song for the movie. She ended up composing the entire score.
  • Real-Life Relative: Amy Poehler and Will Arnett, who respectively voiced Homily and Pod in Disney's English dub, were married at the time of the film's release. They have since divorced.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: GKIDS implied on Twitter that there would've been hurdles to including the UK dub on their release no matter what, given that they acquired all the rights from Disney.
  • Studio Hop: At first, the North American releases were handled by Disney, before switching to GKIDS.
  • Written by Cast Member: In the second Latin American Spanish dub, Clemen Larumbe is Sadako Maki's voice actress as well as the dub's translator.
