Tear Jerker / Toontown Rewritten

• The ARG storylines included some dark, sad stuff like the Cogs winning in alternate timelines, including erasing Slappy from existence, and Gyro Gearloose rewriting himself as Dr. Surlee to try and stop them, with all the angst that entailed from knowing what was going to happen to the Toons and Slappy ahead of time. His diary entries note how exhausting it was to both keep up the facade and try and prepare Toons for the future, his guilt at deceiving the Toons, and his horror at having made things worse than the original timeline.
  • Decrypted log posts from the ARG show that early in the timeline, Flippy felt insecure compared to both Slappy and Dr. Surlee, worrying that the election felt rigged against him. He also felt that while Slappy could do a great job leading Toontown he had things to offer too, and didn't know how Surlee kept coming up with "new" ideas just as he thought of them himself. Surlee reassured Flippy that no matter how the election played out, he just had to trust everyone—and that included himself.
• The final Silly Meter update, where Dr. Fissionton, who'd been split into two, sacrificed themselves to save Toontown's future by making something new, even if it meant they could no longer exist in a world where their story was no longer retold. As the Silly Meter peaked, Toons all over Toontown celebrated, and Dr. Surlee ran to Sellbot HQ just in time to see them disappear in a shower of Silly Particles.
• The Sellbot Task Force quests eventually include a sobering reminder of what the Toons are fighting for with the reveal of the Kaboomberg District and Daisy Gardens, Inc., a place where the Cogs successfully took over Daisy Gardens and converted it into an industrial wasteland. On seeing it, the Task Force isn't only revved up to fight, they're horrified at what happened, with Ripley not believing her eyes.
  Ripley: Welcome to Daisy Gardens, [Player]. Or at least what's left of it. My eyes can't believe what they're seeing. This is everything the Task Force was formed to prevent...
• The 10th anniversary of the Toontown elections had a somber Flippy reflecting on Slappy and how he and Team LHAAFBBHQ were nowhere to be found, and he could only hope and promise that one day they'd defeat the Cogs for good and find them.
  All I know is that they're some of the strongest Toons I've ever met. Wherever they are, they're holding on and fighting back – just like us! When the time comes, be it near or far, we'll beat those Cogs for good and get our friends back. One day.
