  • Episode 1
    • Klein's meeting with Kirito after the latter accidentally explodes a field. He laughs at him and makes fun of him when Kirito was trying to be alone and dealing with a personal crisis, citing it as his obligation even.
    • When a player dismisses Kayaba's claim, he hand blasts the player dead. The player's sister is horrified and mourns him while screaming and crying, asking Kayaba why he would do this and calls him a monster. The next moment, Kayaba callously hand blasts her, killing her as well.
  • Episode 2
    • When Kibao declares that they must shun the Beta Buster, Kirito is visibly affected and trembling with eyes closed.
    • Even when he defeats the boss, a bright light accidentally blinds the other players and immediately blames it on the Beta Buster.
Kirito: (thinking) So I beat the boss without killing anyone and they're still giving me crap about the beta... yeah, that sounds about right. Guess it's back in hiding for me; I'll just take this and be on my way. (takes the coat and leaves while Kibao continues to yell "SHUN!")
    • Kirito and Asuna's final confrontation- even after what happened, she still asks him to help her clear the floors. Kirito immediately laughs at that before realizing she's serious. Overlaps with Heartwarming.
Kirito: Oh my God, you're serious. Why?
Asuna: I know you're not the player everyone's making you out to be. You're strong, caring and you know more about this game than most people. Hell, you were even able to beat that boss without killing anyone. So maybe this bug you have isn't as bad as you think. I think you and I-
Kirito: (sneezes and an explosion occurs; his eyes flicker over to Asuna)
Asuna: (eyes black holes with smoke coming from them) Kinda thought it'd be more painful, but it's actually not that bad.
Kirito: (voice subdued)... sorry, but I don't think I can do any good in this world with this condition. It'd be better for everyone if I just play solo for now. Thanks anyway, Asuna.
  • Episode 3
    • Even within the Moonlight Black Cats, Sachi has little place there and is often called an idiot by Keita because of her bug: that being an idiot. Seeing her have the same condition as them but still talked down to by those same people hurts. Her bonding with Kirito was as cathartic to her as it was for him, and it makes her death even sadder as she finally found someone who would love and accept her.
    • The trap being sprung around the Moonlight Black Cats: Ducker intentionally led them to their deaths before he tried to escape only for the crystals to fail. One by one, they're killed before Kirito starts to fight and his bug kicks in. He sees Sachi surrounded and tries to reach her only for her to die. The gasp of horror he gives makes it even worse before he watches her avatar disappear.
    • The aftermath of the Moonlight Black Cats being slaughtered. Kirito finds out that the item that can resurrect players only works after ten seconds, shattering any hope of bringing back Sachi. He becomes so overcome with guilt, sadness and various other negative emotions that he tries to commit suicide by Nicholas The Renegade. Even Klein tries to get him to lighten up and is stunned when he realizes what Kirito plans to do.
Klein: Just please, lighten up! Your friends wouldn't want you to go solo and shut everyone out! They'd want you to replace them with new friends, don't you agree?!
Kirito: (voice cracking) I spend months waiting to revive my friends after they were killed in a dungeon trap/schoolbus hit-and run and just found out reviving them is impossible. What do you think?
    • As Kirito walks to where Nicholas the Renegade will appear, he can only reflect back on on his failings and the things he had gone through, mourning his fallen friends and hating himself. This is a fifteen year old boy who has come to the conclusion that killing himself will be the only good thing that he ever does in SAO. That is overwhelmingly depressing.
Kirito: (thinking) I'm sorry, Sachi. I'm sorry I wasn't able to bring you back after all. I'm sorry that I wasn't strong enough to save you. In the end, I wasn't strong enough to do anything. In this world, all I've ever brought people is fear, pain, hatred and various other negative emotions. You and the Black Cats were the only solace I had, and I couldn't even protect you when I needed to. I'm useless; a useless piece of trash that's only keeping the other players from getting out of this nightmare. Even after a whole year, I'm still an unstable force of destruction with no friends, no future and nothing to live for! So I guess... this'll be the only good thing I ever do in SAO.
