  • The ending of Digital: A Love Story. Max, who's been snarking and making jokes about the game so far, stops near the end, and the only real talking he does is to read messages out loud. He stops talking completely when *Emilia is going to perform her Heroic Sacrifice, and just silently finishes the game. His facecam fades out, the credits roll, and he just stops talking. The Call-Back to this in don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story is also sad; a bit of text reminds Max of the Bittersweet Ending of that game, and he goes quiet for a minute before continuing. And then next episode, when that bit of text turns out to be Foreshadowing for Isabella's (apparent) suicide, he's not exactly happy with that either.
  • Max mentions a couple of times that Marioman2233, from his very early let's plays, has just disappeared with no trace of him remaining. Even in very recent videos he brings it up...
  • Max crossing the Despair Event Horizon in episode 5 of The Walking Dead, when Ben dies. In part two of that episode, he only speaks maybe three or four times, and is completely silent the rest of the time.
  • In one Worms Reloaded game, Max cut out some commentary at Dan's request. We learn during the Let's Drink of Worms Revolution just what was cut out: Dan telling a story about a family member who was killed in a car accident. He adds on how that family member's wish had been for the whole family to be able to get together, and this was achieved at his funeral; almost the entire family showed up. As Dan says, "he died for that wish".
  • The ending of each Fallout 3 episode has a title card, with Max's silhouette holding a pistol and standing in the blue light of a Vault door. It also includes a bit of text, in the form of snippets from a biography about the Lone Wanderer (or perhaps Max himself), detailing what he did in that episode. All the while, a sad yet inspiring rock song plays, and the lyrics make you wonder if the "biography" is going to have a happy ending...
    • The song is actually called Lil Pip, and was made based on Fallout: Equestria, if that tells you anything.
  • Kate being Driven to Suicide at the end of the second episode of Life Is Strange is already a Tear Jerker for the game itself, but it counts extra here: the reason Max failed to save her was because all the choices he made in episodes one and two were for practical, long-term reasons (except not answering her phone call, which was more out of annoyance at her being bitchy in an earlier scene). And when confronting her on the rooftop, he answered her questions honestly, which was the wrong thing to do. Max did what he genuinely thought was the right thing to do every time, and it all resulted in failure.
  • Episode 8 of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.
    • The guys take on the final bomb of the second-to-last chapter, "I Am Hardcore", and it constantly proves too much for them. They keep coming up with new strategies and ideas, but are always just barely not fast enough. It's an hour and a half of failure, and despite Max wanting to avoid it, they end the episode without completing it.
    • By the end, everyone sounds just broken. Max has gone silent and lost all emotion in his voice, Rhino and Dan clearly sound distressed when they speak, and what energy Tim normally has in his voice has vanished entirely.
    • The description of the video:
  • Jerry's eulogy at Silver's funeral in Minecraft Hardcore sounds genuinely distressed, and he legitimately sounds ready to cry. Even worse knowing that it's partly his fault Silver died since he was knocked off a tower while gathering glowstone for Jerry's potions.
Jerry: You were my Diablo buddy... I'll miss you!
