Tear Jerker / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria

Go To

Even after Chloe's return, all of the emotional pain she helped cause in Blossoming Trail is still there and it will take a long time before it will heal.

And even though the Apex is gone, all that they did won't vanish completely...

    Prologue

Prologue

  • Mallow isn’t taking Tuba’s death very well, having taken to drinking her sorrows away at Oranguru’s bar, and shutting out her friends and family. It’s only after reading Chloe’s message that she starts to perk up.
  • Despite fully knowing that Goh’s departure was inevitable, Kurene and Ikuo are absolutely outraged at the events that led to his departure, blaming Delia and Chloe for what happened: Delia for leaving Goh alone and Chloe for not telling anyone that Raboot and Sobble wouldn’t be able to stop Goh. Ikuo even slaps Chloe across the face in his anger.
    • When Chloe asks if Goh has his phone so she could alert Amelia and the others, Ikuo tosses her Goh’s cracked one...that still has her goodbye message on it. Seeing it reminds Chloe of how selfish she was, and she decides to call instead of sending a message.
    • Chloe still misses the Red Lotus Quarto as it's revealed that she can't talk to Lexi or Atticus anymore because denizen voices can't leave the Train. Amelia begs the girl to stay in her world as they search for Goh and it's clear that Amelia is sad to miss this girl too, especially when she brings up how they asked One-One to make a car in tribute to her.

     Aftermath / The Tapper's Car

Aftermath / The Tapper's Car

  • The Cerise Family have to leave Vermillion City at midnight to avoid drawing any attention to themselves. As they are leaving, someone throws an egg at the moving van. It's obvious that the Cerise Family as a whole, not just Parker, are not well liked in Vermillion any longer.
  • Chloe's reunion with Parker is bittersweet as she reveals what she wanted: just a normal life where she was brave enough to confess what was going on and try something new. But thanks to both of them, that life is essentially a pipe dream.
    • While Chloe is scolding Parker for ruining any chances of having that life, she’s also scolding herself for throwing away all her chances: She knows she could have had that life easily before, only to reject it because it wasn’t ‘good enough’ for her.

     Moody / The Parasol Car
  • Professor Sycamore, Leon and Reggie learning what their loved ones went through on the train. But Reggie's reaction takes the cake: his little brother, all he has left in the world, killed someone and was tortured to near insanity. What takes the cake in that scene is that Paul is apologizing and he never apologizes.
  • Even though Chloe is worried for Goh, she feels bad for missing Atticus, Lexi and Amelia more. Goh is her Childhood Friend but the Quarto was a family to her. The chapter ends has with her refusing to text Amelia until she knows Goh is with them as she ponders what type of person she is now.

     The Canals of Fondue Car

Mimickry

  • Goh's shaky state is saddening to behold. Lexi notes that he doesn't even slightly resemble the reckless runaway train Chloe had always described, as he looks like he's ready to crumble over at any second, he has bags under his eyes and he's stuck in the same car that is all but worshipping the Childhood Friend he abandoned and wanted to tear down. And apparently, something happened on his first day on the train to make things worse.
  • Throughout the chapter, Lexi is having a hard time keeping it together when he sees so many cosplay couples of him and Chloe, reflecting how much he truly grew to care for her and wants her back.
  • Professor Cerise is worried about screwing up again with Chloe now that she's absolutely different from the girl who beat up someone with a paint can and was forced into the Cerise Institute for her own "safety", especially upon learning that she died on the Train and only a Pendant of Life saved her from being gone forever.
  • When speaking to Goh via screen, Chloe can't see Atticus sitting on his lap, strengthening how she will never see her friends again.

Hyper Cutter

  • Remember that implied something that happened on Goh's first day on the Infinity Train? The real story is a doozy: After meeting with Ogami, who somewhat earns his trust by steering him away from a crowd of Chloe fans after noticing his anxiety and into the quieter Mallow's Magical Malasadas, and sympathizing with his being remorseful about his wrongdoings and overshadowed by a once-underestimated friend, Goh finds out Ogami's true nature when he unexpectedly witnesses the latter murdering Satou and Shio in cold blood. And if Ignis, Raboot, Sobble, and Varon hadn't noticed the commotion, Ogami really would have killed Goh just to prove his point about death and personal growth on the Train.
    • For everything going on with her and Satou, Shio did not deserve to die.
  • Chloe has a minor crisis over how, after everything else he already went through, Goh has the rotten luck to have a run-in with and nearly get killed by a serial killer on his first night on the Train.
  • Goh looks back sadly at the statue of Chloe and the Red Lotus Quarto, clearly not over everything he feels guilty over by a long shot.
    • He also has Chloe's flower scrunchie the entire time and never gave it back to her, going under the presumption that she assumed it got tossed into the trash like she was tossed aside for Mew.

     Return to the Corgi Car

Rivalry

  • Yeardley is stuck in his house and lamenting how he isn't going to the camping trip in Pallet Town since Ash didn't give him a chance to get a Pokémon, knowing that what he did is all his fault for not considering the consequences of his actions. His only hope is his mother and sister reassuring him that he did take the first step by sacrificing himself to stop Ms. Turner.
    • As for the rest of his class, they aren't faring better. None of them are talking on the long bus trip to Pallet Town and are still feeling ashamed that they were rescued by Chloe. It's also revealed that not everyone came due to their parents pulling them out once they learned Chloe was helping out (whether for Chloe's safety or the children's safety isn't clear). A big reminder that if they just realized that their bullying attempts were despicable, this never would have happened.
  • Chloe's dream is to have an Unbirthday Party in Azada with everyone from her world and the Train in celebration, including a happier Goh and Tuba. Again, a sad reminder that she can't have that life anymore.
  • Whatever happened with White Gestalt as Tokio is reeling from the memories and reveals to Gladion that he knows that Goh is on the Train. Gladion himself realizes that with his memories back, he'll be having others asking him what else he kept silent.
  • In a small scene, Amelia remembers that she's not allowed entrance into Corginia after having the Steward destroy it and her shooting its king. Atticus reassures her that he's revoked the rule and stands up to Oliver when he tells her to leave.

Ball Fetch

  • Once again, Ash is getting blamed for something outside of his control, with Kris Foster's bitter father going out of his way to harass the boy by cruelly planting a reminder of his Mind Rape at the hands of Parker in the form of a Mad Hatter costume. In his room. (Which Delia thankfully was able to get out before he could see it.) Also doubles as Nightmare Fuel.
  • We get a peek inside Goh's head during the cuddle therapy, and he's still constantly hearing how worthless he was as a friend every single time he tries to do something. Even the positive reinforcement of the puppies feels hollower than it should...it's still people telling him how he's wrong about everything.
  • Things are uncomfortable between the class and Chloe, but not just on the classmates' part...Chloe can tell that they're scared of her just as much as they're ashamed. And she can't completely blame them.
  • Atticus leaves the group to return to his duties, deeply troubling Lexi...the only thing left of the original Red Lotus Trio is his scarlet cloak now.

     Gooey / The Clay Car
  • Paul is afraid of having Electivire fire an attack because the last time doing so caused a boy to drown. He's also aware that he's going to be stuck on the Train alone when Alain and Hop get their numbers to zero and notes the irony of how he'll be all alone like he wanted to be.
  • Tokio is revealed to have nightmares of what Kisaragi did to him and has Goh promise not to tell how Goh and Tokio are friends. When Goh is unsure, Tokio asks if Goh could at least keep a promise to a friend as if to say that he doesn't trust Goh to actually keep a promise...
  • For those who feel pity for the Apex, Toby and Lucy's predicament is saddening. They've been separated from the Apex, presumably friends they made and they can no longer talk to each other as it will dissolve into a huge Blame Game and will cause their numbers to rise. They're alone in the Termite Car and the entire Train is celebrating their demise and their memories of what happened with White Gestalt have returned, and they recalled how Grace's foolish move to kill Utahoshi has gained the ire of Kisaragi. What's worse is that London is now announcing to the entire Train to hunt what's left of the Apex down and bring them to the Hazbin Car and no one is going to show pity on dumping them in a car filled with demons...
  • When Professor Cerise learns about the forest fire, all he can do is hug his daughter in fear. Chloe notes that it made sense; she had just died about two weeks ago.

Own Tempo / The Music Car
  • It seems the karaoke bar specializes in sad songs from the heart:
    • The introduction is Yuna singing "1000 words", aka the song that brought Spoony to tears.
    • She is followed by Lexi singing out his feelings about his relationship with Chloe withering and never being able to see her again. (a male version of "Early Winter" by Gwen Stefani)
    • While Goh steps out, Amelia has her moment with a song that, in-universe, was inspired by the Noir Princess Car tragedy.
    • Hazel's "Lobster Quadrille" seems like the exception...until she reveals it was one of her better memories of Grace who clammed up about explaining that the song came from story about a girl who chased a white rabbit...
    • Goh sings "Who Do You Love", whose lyrics seem almost custom-made for his story.
  • Goh's confession in the garden to Warbler: his emotions are a complete maelstrom, and he feels like he has to bottle them all up because everyone keeps telling him he's wrong about everything, even when he pulls a complete 180. Warbler simply listening and validating his feelings is enough to bring him to tears.
  • Professor Cerise and Chloe have to revisit their worse memories when dealing with Carl, and walk away feeling sick to their stomachs.

Anticipation / The Grand Cineplex Car

  • It turns out that the children of the parents conspiring against Ash aren't all that broken up about him supposedly "ruining their lives". In fact, they seem perfectly content with not being trainers, having all found their true callings in life. Which means that the actions of the adults were all completely pointless. Not only that, but when the children find out about their parents' actions — like the fact that they agreed to Carl's plan of setting a forest fire that could have killed a dozen children — not only are they angry, they're also incredibly hurt that they apparently aren't as supportive of them as they claimed. Chloe even decides not to chew them out any more; as the children and spouses will be giving them quite an earful.
  • It turns out that Kris was trying to be like Ash...because his father was pushing him to be. When Kris wasn't progressing as fast as he wanted, Carl not only demanded he give him his Flareon back, he essentially disowned his son while he was stranded in Celadon....all while blaming Ash for his own actions.
    • Carl tries to explain that Chloe would "understand" this anger and jealousy at Ash. Chloe doesn't buy it.
Chloe: Did you forget I was at that campsite?! But it doesn't matter if we miserable nobodies are dead as long as Ash's reputation also went up in flames. And every single one of you adults agreed to this? You all would have been happy to hear so many children scream in horror as the flames blackened our skin, stealing vital oxygen for us to breathe all because you were jealous of one boy?! Would you do this if Carl put your children in danger just to spite Ash?!
    • Right before the above chew-out, Chloe admits internally that her past self would've understood, knowing how she used to hate Ash for his mere existence, it's pretty gut-wrenching to be told something like that, especially when you consider that Chloe could've easily ended up just like Carl if she never let go of her negative feelings.
  • While Lexi lashing out at others is bad, he's been bottling up his feelings of losing his friends — Chloe going back to her world and Atticus returning to Corginia — and has to see every single reminder that he can never be with Chloe again. There's Jane who is "playing" Chloe, there are the fans who talk about the inconsistencies compared to what he's experienced and then there's the denizen who was scammed with a fake Chloe taking her place. It gets so bad that Amelia has to snap him out by stating that he has no excuse to be getting angry over everyone else.
  • Class 5-E watches the video of Carl being arrested and look in shame at how they were no better than him. When Patricia asks what they were thinking, Trip answers that they didn't care about who they hurt so long as their feelings of envy were validated.

     The Deep Jungle Car

Illusion

  • Kurune learns that her son was going through childhood depression and she never knew since no one from school told her and she never went to parent-teacher conferences. This also puts the entirety of what Goh had gone through in this fic and Blossoming Trail in a much worse light.note
  • The jungle gives Hazel flashbacks about her life with Tuba, and she wonders about her future or whether or not things could have been different if Grace and Simon entered her life before Warbler sings her a comforting tune.

Disguise

  • The failed Engineered Public Confession causes Goh to have a panic attack, and it turns out that he basically has every cruel text he got from Chloe memorized.
  • Though awesome on the former's part for finally striking back for all the grief and suffering he's endured, it's still pretty sobering to see Goh and Lexi getting into a shouting match over Goh's past [in]actions towards Chloe as well as his infamous Facedex post. The one that hits the hardest is Goh remembering how he hated Tokio over a misunderstanding that caused him to reject friendship when Lexi questioned if Chloe ever left him in the rain.

     Intermission: Gravity / Breakaway
  • A minor one comes from how Specter can't see Easter and calls them an "it" (a problem he had in Knight of the Orange Lily). When London clarifies that the blur is Easter, he actually looks kind of guilty and apologizes. On Easter's end, this is the first time they see their partner again and is somewhat crushed at not being able to properly communicate.

     The Dark Parables Car

Misty Surge

  • Chloe has another bout of guilt upon seeing a wall of Ash's history in Alola, and realizing that the championship win that had completely dominated her initial opinion of Ash was only one piece of his life, all of which she missed.
  • Chloe describes her first meeting with Goh at camp, and it's pretty bittersweet. She remembers finding Goh's initial dedication admirable and being more than happy to help him out...until things changed for the worst.
  • Part of why Chloe brings it up now is because she's self-conscious about actually enjoying herself in Alola.
  • Alain is still hiding his struggles from Paul and Hop, thinking that he has to be strong for the two of them...but even they can tell something's up.

Frisk

  • Paul watches his Electivire get forcibly transformed into a vulnerable frog in front of his eyes.
  • To add onto the Fujihachi parents' great parenting skills, Ikuo slips up when he tells Goh that they "just" found out about his depression and digs himself into a deeper ditch about how all that work was to make money for the future, but they were financially secure for a long while and never had to work so much. Goh is furious in that all that's in his parents' lives are work, work and more work and no life outside of it, and no time to tell Goh how to actually be a person who cares for others. Goh calmly tells his father that next time they talk, he and Kurune better have plans on what to do in the present.
    Goh: Goodbye, dad.
  • Throughout the hunt for the gears, Alain, Hop and Paul discuss the traumas they're still processing:
    • Alain: Feels guilty that he got off "easy" compared to Hop and Paul and doesn't feel like he deserves to mention his nightmares on being hugged.
Alain: I find it...unfair. The punishment for my crimes is the inverse. I mean, I aided a megalomaniac to destroy the world and Paul gets away with kicking puppies. And then I get used yet again...and Paul goes through something that manages to overshadow everything he did. And Hop, who did nothing wrong...I need to be the adult, the responsible one now that I’m wide awake, and I’m only going to have so long to do so before…
    • Hop: Tries to deny that he misses Alex but accidentally calls Alain that when he needs a step to reach a certain gear part. He's worried that this might be a case of Stockholm Syndrome.
Hop: ...I have nightmares, but they’re always about Walter and Henry...when I see Alex, it stops being so bad, and I know it shouldn’t... I feel so weird and wrong and...and I don’t know how I’m going to face Leon. He’ll think I’m pathetic or broken for missing one of the people who used me. Or if he’ll think I’m nuts for liking the guy who could turn into a black pyramid thing!
    • Paul: Upon reading Snow White's tale, Hop notes that Paul was never forced to be emotionless but he chose to be cold to others.
  • On the beach, Trip blames himself for his bluntness being what drove Goh to his Sanity Slippage for being to blunt and preventing Ash from actually getting help. He proclaims that he's a terrible boyfriend because of how awkward it was to confess his love after starting Ash's guilt complex and doesn't deserve Ash just immediately saying "Yeah, let's try it out".
Trip: I really wanted to think I was like...I don’t know, Dr. House or one of those other guys who tells the truths nobody wanted to hear but had to face. Like I was riding in to save the day when no-one else could or should have...
  • If you thought Alex's past in Silent Hill: Homecoming was bad, this makes it worse. Hop learned that Alex brutally slaughtered his parents upon the revelation of him being the sacrifice whereas in the game he chose to let them die to the monsters.

    Liquid Voice/ The Comm-Switch Car
  • Lexi is still deeply angry about what happened to him at Simon and Grace's hands, and Titus still feels deep guilt about leaving them alone. It's a massive show of growth for the Apex survivor that he lets go of his anger and gives Simon's book life.
  • While under much better circumstances than it could've been, Goh is still rattled to hear about Chloe's first story about him.
  • Drizzile's reasons for hating his current form get an even sharper angle... While Goh was in the hospital, he became addicted to a show featuring an Impossible Sniper, leading him to want to evolve into Inteleon as quickly as possible. Why? Because he dreamed of protecting Goh from his own self-destructive thoughts, popping them like harmless balloons.
  • Raboot bursts into tears when he finally opens up to Goh about how the boy inspired him and how he never wanted to let him down.
  • When Chloe reassures Tokio that Grace gave her her knife after saving her life, he curtly corrects her that she saved Chloe, not him. His life was ruined when she stabbed Utahoshi in the head, while Chloe's was saved by her killing Walter in the same way.
  • Warbler gaining her voice spurs a horrifying realization for Hazel: she sounds exactly like Grace. Grace Monroe, founder and former leader of the Apex, last seen frustrated and angry and blaming herself while grousing around the Le Chat Chalet Car, is dead. Any chance for further reconciliation between her and those she harmed has been cut short, and Hazel chooses to keep that to herself, possibly so as not to taint Warbler's future with the sins of her past self.

    The Hazbin Car

Justified

  • Toby wants to kill Paul because it's his fault that Sean is dead, believing it will be the only "good thing" any of the Apex can do now.
  • Mad Ben congratulates Paul for killing an Apex and Paul sees himself in the punk and how horrible he was as a human being before the Train picked him up.
  • Whatever the White Gestalt did to stop the Apex will make them become a set of Broken Pedestals when the truth sinks in. So this means that Gladion's quest would end up All for Nothing.
  • Lucy reveals to everyone that Grace is dead, cementing that Warbler is Grace reincarnated.

Serene Grace

  • Grace Monroe's last moments are filled with this. Unlike her canon self who got a chance to move on and a denizen partner, she ends up alone, with nothing to her name except a number, crying out how she wanted to be noticed.
    • In the Curry Car, she has to see the car celebrating Chloe's victory and for saving their Curry Prince's soul and is reduced to eating at a kitchen for the poor. She has to eat with her right hand (justified since Indian cultures see the left hand as unclean) which shows off her number and Chloe's words echo in her head that she's quite proud of her numbers but she always kept them covered.
    • In the Birdcage Car, she has a nightmare as memories of when White Gestalt stopped the Apex appear and she now realizes how she killed Utahoshi for nothing. She is also tormented by everything that happened in the Fog Car from everyone telling her out that she fucked up, to how she wouldn't care if Chloe died and Walter's "They looked like monsters to you" to the point that she destroys the furniture all around her before she cries herself to sleep, trying to hum Tuba's lullaby to numb her pain a little.
    • As she ventures to the Blinking Metropolis Car, she was reminded that her parents pushed her so she could perform in Broadway and how she wanted to go to New York to escape and be loved by thousands. On the train, no one loves her. Not even herself. She also has to watch One-One announce that the Mall Car is cleaned up and everything in it will be put up for auction while Chloe gets a special Car, the Blossoming Shrine Car, in honor of her.
    • In the Happy Endings Car, Grace has to see how the people she mocked (Shirley Fenette, Lapis Lazuli, Chloe, Trip, Gladion and Tokio) got to go home and live happily ever after while Simon was given a news report about a missing person's case closed and she gets no happy ending.
  • Toby and Lucy reveal the recorded audio of Grace's death as she screams and begs for people to hide before she apologizes for her actions and stated that in the end, she only wanted to be noticed. A pitiful and tragic end for a girl who could never admit that she was ever in the wrong.
Grace: He’s…he’s going to kill…more…hide, please hide…anyone who hears this…I was stupid...I just wanted to be noticed...I don't wanna die...I'm so sorry...
    • To make it worse, most of the people don't give a fuck. London and Easter have bad experiences with everything she did, and it's not like the demons could care less about someone who massacred for the hell of it. This doesn't help Hazel in the slightest.
  • We see a flashback of the day Lexi was torn apart as Grace and Simon gloat on how they're the Apex and him pleading to at least see his father. When Lexi asks the Apex if they know that story, Toby answers they do; every single Apex member knows the tale of how it came to be. As if Lexi's problems with the Apex weren't over at this point.
  • For those who pity Grace's parents, their life is lonely and cold for the past eight years because neither of them admitted that their daughter needed help. Then the police officer tells them their daughter returned...as a corpse. So now there is no chance to ever become a family again and they know that, deep down, they're the reason for it.

Forewarn

  • At the beginning, Chloe still has traumas from losing to Ash and is afraid of being laughed at for her mistakes.
  • Chloe learns about Grace's death, and is deeply disturbed by the notion that it "had" to happen to her.
    • Tokio actually states that it's good that Grace is dead as he will be forever scarred by what she did to him. He only backs down when Goh reveals that she was killed by the one who tried to kill him.
  • The two Apex members give Grace the only memorial that they can...a tiny portrait with a candle, tucked away in a closet. The only attendees are Lucy, Toby, and Hazel...then Lexi shows up and still pays his last respects.
    • Toby notes that he didn't get a happy entrance to the car and that Grace saved him from being devoured by an evil spider creature. Things could have been better if Grace actually was thinking of the Apex first instead of her own desires.
  • Kisaragi proves that he hasn't learned a single thing from the experiences and sees himself as the hero. London even muses that things could have been vastly different if Grace didn't kill Utahoshi.

     Soul-Heart/ The Bake-O-Life Car
  • At Alola, the group of former train passengers hold a seaside funeral for their loved ones. Despite this, the group still feels like they could do more, but Mallow notes that it wouldn't make much difference...they'd just cry differently.
  • We get one last check-up on Sara, who's still struggling. The only bright spot is that her foster mom understands her position and is ready to help her.
  • Specter reaches his worst memories in the Fog Car, and remembers what happened to Lampetia. The two never got to say farewell because of the circumstances in the Tape Car and Tiffany snatching her heart. They eventually say goodbye, but Lampetia quickly breaks down at the fact that they'll never see each other again. Lexi is unsure if he should transform into his "Specter" form to at least let Lampetia hug him.
  • Goh clearly sees himself in Tiffany - who famously said Chloe deserved to die — as someone living under the shadow of their past mistakes, who people won't even try to help to atone for personal catharsis.

     Static/ The Pirate Car
  • The chapter starts by having Gladion call out Tokio regarding the "promise" he made with Goh. Needless to say, Tokio becomes horrified at what he's done, and promises to apologize to Goh next time they speak.
  • A happy type of tearjerker happens when Goh takes out the Sea Monster. While he had help from Lexi and his Pokémon, this is the first time he can call a victory his own: the monster wasn't weakened by the Red Lotus Trio, nobody diminishes or trivializes his accomplishment, no. Goh takes out a Sea Monster and he finally gets to feel good about himself.
    • That said, the normal kind of tearjerker comes soon after when Goh begins wondering if he's dreaming. Goh's so broken at his point he thinks this victory is just a dream that will be taken away from him, just like everything else.

     The Mediterranean Car

Oblivious

  • Amelia is getting low-key flashbacks to Alrick the entire car as the idea of passengers being Together in Death reminds her of how much she wanted Alrick back in her life but could never do so and the years she could've been happy were it not for her grief.

Arena Trap

  • Goh is forced to remove his phone's SIM card after learning about Vox's takeover, cutting them off from Chloe and Goh's parents during an incredibly intense time.

Airlock/ The Fall of the 400 Rabbits Car
  • Deserved or not, Kisaragi goes through the wringer in this car, with all his sins crashing onto his back. His kingdom is gone, he must step down as leader and he realizes what a fool he's been to get revenge on Utahoshi's murder. What makes it worse is that he has been searching for any signs of Utahoshi's soul and he never found it, wondering if Utahoshi was disappointed in the monster he became.
  • Goh is horrified in the quest he was given: he has to destroy the brainwashing chamber that made Tokio the White Rabbit and rips off all the charts that detailed the progress, a bitter reminder of how his own nightmare therapy made him tear up his own charts.
  • Hazel and Goh having to reveal Warbler's identity as Grace. As expected, neither Lexi nor Amelia are happy to find out that the Apex leader has been traveling with them the entire time.

Intermission, Part 2: You've Got Mail!
  • The simple fact that Goh is effectively writing what might be his will and last message to his friends.

     The Kaiju Car
  • Oleana had a sister...and it's clear that the train had something to do with the fact that she's not with her right now.
  • Chloe and Goh have to face their past...Chloe has to address her lingering bitterness and her past of hating Pokemon in order to appeal to Ponyta, and Goh realizes that the next movie on the train will be covering his trauma.

     The Omelas Car
  • Kenny's state when the Trainer Trio finds him...exhausted, delirious, lonely, and too afraid of being 'selfish' to let himself take a break.
  • Chloe and Ash's worry about Goh gets worse when it's confirmed that no-one can reach the train, since their most vivid memory of Goh is the shaky glass shell wearing his face.
  • Trip gets one more gut punch when Chloe confirms that the massive movement he started ultimately didn't help her as much as he hoped, leaving him wondering if he accomplished anything right. Luckily, Ash is quick to comfort him.
  • Goh, Hazel and Warbler indulge in one last sad song together before they have to address Warbler as Grace.
  • Alain's farewell to Paul and Hop.

     The Desert Racetrack Car
  • As soon as the chapter starts, it becomes clear that Chloe's severely troubled by the fact she can't contact Goh on the Train currently.

     Memory Lane

     The Darkest Day
  • Chloe getting all of her past sins, starting from her initial blow-up in the first story to her poorly-worded ultimatum thrown back at her by Vox and Dahlia. While it's pretty cathartic and awesome for many readers who hated her selfish and petty behavior, it's also heartwrenching in how the same little girl is forced to see firsthand the consequences of her behavior through those closest to her.
    • Throughout the chapter, it is made clear that all the denizens are listening to the broadcast... And now everyone knows how horribly Chloe had treated her family and friends, and have realized she wasn't the perfect, nice girl they all saw her as. So in a way, Vox had succeeded: He had destroyed Chloe’s reputation. And the girl has no one but herself to blame for giving him what he needed to do it.
    • Worst of all, we find out the real reason why Goh recorded Chloe’s battle with Ash, and why he accused her of not having a dream: He wanted to celebrate Chloe trying something new and to encourage her to find a dream. Meaning that he truly WAS trying to be a good friend to her, yet he never got a chance to explain it to Chloe because of her shutting him out and then trying disown him out of sheer spite.
    • It gets even sadder when you realize that in hindsight, the rest of the Red Lotus Quartro, such as Lexi, Atticus, and Amelia, contributed to Goh's misery by enabling Chloe's worst flaws and toxic behaviors, and encouraging her to burn bridges with Goh, even after reading her extremely cruel and abusive messages. All this led to Goh being isolated and vulnerable by the time the Unown Incident happened. Regardless of their awareness of the situation, they're just as guilty for hurting Goh as Chloe is.
  • In a mixture of this and Heartwarming, Oleana and Romsca/her younger sister’s goodbye, as Romsca assures Oleana that she will move on one day, and telling her to live her life until they meet again in the afterlife.
