Tear Jerker / Galavant

• King Richard, of all people, actually gets the majority of the tearjerker moments throughout the first season.
  • Madalena outright rejects him. It's like watching a kicked puppy.
    Madalena: You're unlovable. Pearl only loved you because your parents paid her to.
  • Richard sets up a roast for himself, letting the Valencians let off some steam and really have fun for the first time. He's actually genuinely into it, and the insults keep getting whackier... until the Eunuch makes fun of him for not realizing his wife is sleeping with the jester, and Richard orders his execution.
  • Just after Richard actually strikes up an odd friendship with the Jester (even learning his first name), Madalena throws the Jester into the worst dungeon because he dumped her.
  • In the Finale Richard finally decides to stand up and fight his own battles. Too bad that means he now has to fight his best friend in a duel to the death.
  • "Goodnight, my friend."
• The Season 1 finale, especially because a second season renewal seemed unlikely, because the cliffhanger ending leaves so many UNHAPPY endings. Galavant and Richard are on the run together, Isabella's been locked in what's essentially a dollhouse by her 8-yr-old fiance/cousin after being separated from her true love, the Valencians have lost their kingdom and their jewel, Sid's being held hostage by Gareth in case Galavant fails to protect Richard, and Gareth becomes king at the cost of sending his best friend away to an uncertain fate. The only good characters that get a happy ending are Chef and Gwynne, simply because they're a couple now, while the only person that's really better off by the end is Madalena, who has more than proven herself the show's Big Bad.
• Galavant's face when it's revealed that Isabella planned to betray him all along.
  • Sid's reaction to when he thinks that Galavant was killed is also pretty heartbreaking
• In Season 2, Even Queen Madelena (of all people?) gets her own heart wrenching moment as well. Right before Madalena goes to a regal roast event held by two other queens we see a flashback of said queens and Madelena as children. Madalena was poor at that time, and the first time they met the soon- to- be queens specifically told Madalena she could ride with them in their carriage only to make fun of her for being poor and drive away.
  • Her song afterward What Am I Feeling about not knowing how to feel after the roast is particularly heartbreaking. Though it does at least end with a sweet moment between her and Gareth.
• Gareth realizing that Madelena betrayed him and took up dark magic behind his back. After he sadly tells her that he won't become an evil couple with her, Madelena leaves with sarcastic thanks for all the heroes, then turns to Gareth and sincerely says "Thank you for the love."
  • At the end, Gareth still wants to be with Madelena. Madelena tells him that she loves him too, but since she sold her soul for dark magic she doesn't think it's possible. Gareth still looks unhappy while everyone else is cheering at Galavant and Isabella's wedding. Leads to a Moment of Heartwarming when he decides to go save Madelena from herself.
