Tear Jerker / Fury (2014)

Go To

  • As they're driving along a road, the column comes across a crowd of German refugees. One of the women is wearing a wedding dress.
  • After Emma dies and Norman starts to freak out, it's Grady who gets him to snap out of it. He was a jerk about it, but what he said implied that at some point, he had been broken by war as well:
Who d'you think you are, huh? Jesus Christ? You gonna raise her up, Norman? Git yer ass back on the fuckin' tank. What the fuck are you doin'? What you gonna do? You gonna get mad? Feel anything? You feel it? You feel it? It's called WAR! YOU FEEL IT!? Get your fuckin' spindly ass back on that fuckin' tank. Where the fuck you think you are?
    • As much of a dick as he is, it's clear by the end that Grady's treatment of Norman was intended to toughen him up and give him a better chance of survival.
  • Grady's death. Bible just breaks down crying, hugging his friend's body, before he covers his head with a jacket.
  • Bible's death. He gets shot by a sniper while trying to give Wardaddy some grenades. When Wardaddy gets back into the tank, he hugs Bible before his own wounds make him too weak to stand.
  • Towards the end, when Norman goes into Heroic BSoD mode and tells Wardaddy he's afraid. Wardaddy confesses that he is too. The music doesn't help, either.
  • When Norman gets rescued by a passing US patrol, he stares back at the wreckage of Fury, obviously going through a Heroic BSoD as he sees the tank he shared with four great men now dead, with a wake of destruction all around. Again, the music REALLY isn't helping anyone.
  • Also, if you look at it from a certain perspective, Fury's tank crew asserting that what they're doing now is the "best job they ever had" qualifies. They've been in war so long that it has become their normal, they've lost the ability to relate to anything other than war, and even if they survive, readjusting to civilian life is going to be difficult-if-not-impossible. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, it looks like Norman is the only one who will have to figure it all out.

Deleted Scenes

  • "Rose - Extended"
    • Wardaddy pours out his back story to Norman He got his girlfriend and brother killed in a car accident, same one that burned his back. He reveals to Norman after the whole story that his brother's name was Norman.
    • Right after that, the platoon stumbles across the remnants of a Nazi death march. The fields were strewn with dead concentration camp inmates. Norman asks if they were criminals and Wardaddy just replies, "People, they were regular people. You and me."
