Ana is a Mexican comedy-drama series created by and starring Ana de la Reguera. De la Reguera plays herself, a Mexican telenovela actress, who was raised to be beautiful and famous by her beauty queen mother, Nena. As she struggles to find work in Los Angeles, she decides to discover who she really is.

• Bad Influencer: LatinTuber is a downplayed example, as she is merely annoyingly perky but not evil. However, Ana detests her, particularly after she won a role that Ana had auditioned for and was hoping to get.
• Bilingual Backfire: In L.A. Ana is running late to an audition. The English-speaking casting agent tells her it's fine, and hands her six pages worth of revisions, telling Ana she should have enough time to review them. Ana mutters in Spanish, calling the agent a "pendeja" (an asshole). Much to Ana's dismay, the agent announces that she speaks Spanish.

• Caught with Your Pants Down: Ana is spending a quiet night in and sets up for this kind of date with a pink vibrator and a laptop so she can watch sexy videos. Unfortunately, she's out of batteries. And then someone knocks on her door.

• Cue the Rain: Just when Ana learns that she did not get the role for which she did a screen test, it starts to rain. This happens at just the right time for her to arrive soaking wet from head to toe to her surprise party.
• Credits Gag: The end credits include a message to the viewers on behalf of Ana de la Reguera.
  If any of this resembles reality, please don't tell my mom.
• Distinction Without a Difference: In the first episode, Ana has a screen test. She keeps having to clarify to people that it's not a casting, it's a screen test.
• Excrement Statement: Upon realizing that she has not been given a role in "The Addams Family", but rather a cheap Expy called "Los Adame", Ana heads over to the Hollywood sign and urinates on the script.
• First Gray Hair: Ana and Papasito go to a spa so she can get "*wink* a hair cut" (code phrase for laser treatment for bikini hair removal). When she is done with her treatment, she asks the cosmetician about three hairs left behind. Apparently laser treatments cannot pick up gray hair because it is too light. She leaves the spa in a huff without bothering to put her trousers back on and goes next door to beg for a wax job. Freaking-out ensues when she is told "they don't do that here".
• Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: The episode titles incorporate Ana's name in ALL CAPITALS somewhere: "LesbiANA", "MarihuANA", "VeracruzANA", "AnciANA", and "ANAl".
• invokedMemetic Mutation: In-universe. Ana used to act in a telenovela by the name of "Marisela". A screenshot of a scene where her character's true love shows up just as she is getting married is turned into a meme with the addition of the caption "Tus ojos me penetran" (your eyes penetrate me) and little animated penises coming out of her eyes. Ana laments having worked in telenovelas only to be known for this.
• Marijuana Is LSD: Ana takes a drag from her vape pen in the middle of filming her appearance in a morning show. During the cooking segment she is completely high and makes a fool of herself by pretending the eggplants are the eggplant emoji.
• My Beloved Smother: Nena. She is always trying to mold Ana into her picture of what Ana ought to be. She appears in Ana's mind to tell her to put on some lipstick because otherwise her mouth resembles "a dead chicken's asshole".
• Safe, Sane, and Consensual: Noted by Ana's Closet Key, who is introducing her to bondage. Ana asks Chok why she has a pair of scissors tucked in her waistband, and Chok answers that it is as a safety precaution in case of an earthquake. This does absolutely nothing to relax Ana.
• Shout-Out: To The Addams Family.
• Spicy Latina: Deconstructed. Ana sees a character she is auditioning for as someone who tries to go unnoticed and to blend in. She changes her cute colorful outfit and hoop earrings for a man's button-down shirt, sneakers, and baseball cap. This gets a tepid response from the producers, who want a "real Latina" like the ones a wait room: a bunch of interchangeable young brunettes in tight jeans and stiletto heels. Ana just walks away mumbling that she IS from Veracruz.
• The Tooth Hurts: LatinTuber is chasing after Ana and ends up running face first into a glass door. She ends up with a broken nose and one of her front teeth is missing. Ana tells her to go to the hospital but LT is more worried about her dog Motita, who ran off.
