Ana is a 2020 comedy-drama film directed by Charles Mc Dougall. It stars Andy GarcĂa, Dafne Keen and Ramon Franco.

Ana (Keen), a Puerto Rican street-smart urchin, meets Rafa (Garcia), a financially destitute car salesman, in a chance encounter. They embark on a road trip to try and save him from bankruptcy, or worse.

The film provides examples of:

  • Blackmail: Ana recorded Helen confessing to illegally donating campaign money she gained via fraud, making her hand over the funds Rafa needs so she won't get arrested.
  • Character Title: "Ana".
  • Corrupt Church: Ana hooks up with a corrupt minister named Helen, conning her parishioners through fake miracle cures of her supposedly paralyzed legs.
  • Little Miss Con Artist: Ana is skilled at conning people, using her cute, innocent looks to sell her cons. She's a natural with fake miracle cures. A corrupt minister, Helen, is a more sophisticated version whom she works with.
  • Loan Shark: Rafa is in debt with one after losing a bet on cock fighting. He has only a short time to pay it off (on the news its shown that another debtor was murdered).
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Rafa, while trying to find Ana at one point, asks some gangster pimps (he doesn't realize they're this it seems). They misunderstand what he's asking and take violent exception when Rafa says a 10 year old girl, chasing him away.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Ana pretends she's disabled and cons people to gain money, performing fake miracles of walking again in an evangelical church in cahoots with its corrupt minister.
  • Odd Couple: A broke car salesman and a 12-year old street-smart girl working together to save the former from bankruptcy along with probable death at the hands of a loan shark.
  • One-Word Title
  • Orphanage of Fear: Ana strongly objects to the idea of being put in a foster home, saying the people there only care for kids to get money, with some molesting them. Rafa reluctantly concedes and doesn't put her in one. When she actually gets into one, two older girls bully her to get cash, but Ana soon makes her escape.
  • Parental Abandonment: Ana's mother is in prison. Rafa takes her to her father, who claims she isn't his daughter because he has a wife and other kids who don't know about her. By the end, Rafa is basically her father though.
  • Riches to Rags: Rafa is financially destitute at the beginning, having fallen from success as a car salesman into debt.
  • Road Trip Plot: The two protagonists embark on a road trip for Ana to get back home, and Rafa out of debt
  • Street Urchin: Ana is a street-smart urchin who uses theft, persuasion and charm to get what she needs.
  • Tagline: "A journey of friendship, gangsters and insolvency".
