Sandbox / Rabbit Magician Wick Check

Go To

Here a wick check will be performed for Rabbit Magician.

Why?: While Rabbit Magician might be tropeworthy, given the Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat trope and the historical portrayal of rabbits as tricksters, the trope is suspected of attracting usage for any rabbit who happens to be a magician.

Wicks checked: 50/69

Rabbit who is a magician, the combination of which is relevant to plot or characterization (11/69)
  1. Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat (in description): Another mutation is the Rabbit Magician, who may use the hat as a gate to its burrow or other domicile. Describes how the rabbit being a magician is relevant to their characterization.
  2. Analysis.Animal Occupation Stereotypes: Magic users, such as wizards and witches, as well as stage magicians due to the Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat trick. Describes relevancy of the connection.
  3. Analysis.Animal Stereotypes: Hares and Rabbits: Often depicted as comical, sweet, innocent, and cuddly, but can also be cunning tricksters for the purposes of self-defense. Independent and a little mysterious, even magical, particularly in older folklore. They're very agile runners, and can reproduce very quickly. Due to Bugs Bunny, they're often seen eating carrots. Since magicians pull rabbits out of hats, the rabbits might know a little magic of their own. Rarely though, they can be a terror to be reckoned with. Context provided by two potholes is close enough.
  4. Anime.Alices Adventures In Wonderland JP: Benny Bunny was a magician's assistant before the late-man's hat came into Alice's possession. Relevant connection between rabbit and magician.
  5. Characters.Clay Fighter: In addition to the great physical strength from talking to his muscles and the cybernetic enhancements given to him, T-Hoppy is also an accomplished stage magician. This is seen in a couple of his Claytalities in which he converts his opponent into a carrot (and then eats it) or a clone of himself (with a heated chat that ends with the real T-Hoppy filling the clone with bullets). Rabbit and magician combo are relevant to characterization.
  6. Characters.Faux Pas: Used to be owned by a magician and has picked up some tricks, occasionally suggested to be actual magic. Rabbit/magician combo relevant to characterization.
  7. Recap.Tiny Toon Adventures S 1 E 20 You Asked For It: Buster gets a job as a rabbit for a magician who performs at Montana Max's birthday party. When Monty causes the magician to quit, Buster takes over for the magician and performs a magic act on Monty as revenge. Rabbit/magician combo relevant to plot.
  8. Characters.Learning With Manga FGO: Stage Magician: Her bio notes her to be one, explaining that her skill with illusions helped her with being a filmmaker. Visually, she also invokes the Lovely Assistant and the Rabbit Magician aspects of this trope. Rabbit/magician combo seems to be relevant to characterization.
  9. Characters.Rise Of The Guardians: Like the other Guardians, Bunny is proficient in a number of magical skills unique to himself, including the generation of magical rabbit holes and command of egg-based golems, gaining strength from the collective belief people have in the Easter Bunny. Rabbit/magician combo relevant to characterization.
  10. DragonBall.Tropes O To Z: Carrot Master's primary magical power is to turn people he touches into carrots. He turns Bulma into a carrot and threatens to eat her until Yamcha, with the help of Puar, snatches her out of his grip, giving Goku the opening to kick his ass and force him to change her back before sending him to the moon. Judging by the carrot theming, the rabbit-magician combo is definitely relevant to characterization.
  11. LooneyTunes.Tropes P To R:
    • "Hocus Pocus" features one of the earliest appearances of Happy Hare, the character that would eventually become Bugs Bunny. Here, he's a magician's rabbit who demonstrates Reality Warper powers as he bedevils two dogs who wander into the magician's home.
    • Bugs himself often does magic tricks, sometimes mentioning that he used to work for a magician. On at least two occasions ("Hot Crossed Bunny" and "The Case of the Missing Rabbit") he pulls himself out of a hat. Rabbit/magician combo relevant to plot and characterization.

Just a rabbit who is a magician (21/69)
  1. Anthropomorphic Vice: The King's Court bosses in Cuphead are anthropomorphic representations of various entertainments and vices that the Devil's Casino can indulge. Most of them represent various forms of gambling — Chips Bettigan (a stack of poker chips) and Hopus Pocus (a Rabbit Magician who attacks with cards) represent poker, Pip and Dot represent dominoes, Phear Lap is horse racing, Pirouletta is roulette, Mangosteen is pool, and King Dice himself represents dice games — but there's also bosses for arcade games (Mr. Chimes), alcohol (the Tipsy Troop), and cigarettes (Mr. Wheezy). The plot/character relevancy is not specifically about the rabbit being a magician, the magician just happens to be a rabbit.
  2. Magical Star Symbols: Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf - Moon Castle: The Space Adventure: Wandi, a Rabbit Magician who lives on the moon, has stars on his magician vest. Just a rabbit who is a magician.
  3. Token Wizard: In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Bianca the Rabbit - the Sorceress's amateur apprentice - defects to the heroes's side and becomes their token magician, Spyro the Dragon being the main hero, Hunter the Cheetah a Cowardly Lion athlete and Zoe the Fairy being a... well... a Fairy Companion. As written, the magician just happens to be a rabbit—plot or character relevancy isn't mentioned.
  4. Animation.Pleasant Goat And Big Big Wolf: Wandi is a Moon Rabbit who is practicing his magic skills. Among a few other magic powers, he can change his own appearance and use his hat to teleport himself and others to another location. As written, the connection between rabbit and magician isn't relevant to anything.
  5. CanonForeigner.Film: Moon Castle: The Space Adventure has an amateur Rabbit Magician named Wandi take the goats and wolves to his home planet of the moon to help him and his sister, Queen Luna, defeat the evil Bitter Gourd King and his gourd minions who want to turn the moon bitter. As written, the connection between rabbit and magician isn't relevant to plot or characterization.
  6. Characters.Codex Equus First Age Heroes: Like her inspiration, she was an apprentice of the Mystic Queen before defecting to Pyro's side and becoming an apprentice to the leader of the Magic Crafters. As written, the rabbit just happens to be a magician.
  7. Characters.Cuphead The Kings Court: He's a magician rabbit that can use magic tricks to attack. Rabbit/magic combo not relevant to plot or characterization.
  8. Characters.Infinity Train Knight Of The Orange Lily Infinity Train: Could summon a barrier but whether that was an innate power or something he gained as the White Rabbit is unknown. Rabbit just happens to be able to perform magic (as written).
  9. Characters. The Saga Of Spyro Quest For Harmony: She's a Sorceress-in-Training, as per canon. Rabbit who just happens to perform magic.
  10. TabletopGame. The Delvers Guide To Beast World: Celerines (rabbits and squirrels) have different illusion spell-like abilities depending on their homeland, with rabbits also knowing Prestidigation. Just rabbits who perform magic.
  11. Characters.Paladins Flank: She's an anthropomorphic rabbit who wears a Robe and Wizard Hat. However, her familiar does most of the fighting, and the only spells she uses are her barrier and ultimate. Just seems to be a rabbit who is a magician.
  12. Characters.Paladins Support: All her abilities are magical in nature, and she's a leipori. Just seems to be a rabbit who is a magician.
  13. Characters.Pleasant Goat And Big Big Wolf: He's an anthropomorphic rabbit who is working on his magic tricks, and wears a top hat much like the ones actual magicians would wear. Just seems to be a rabbit who is a magician.
  14. Characters.Spyro The Dragon Supporting: She was apprentice to the Sorceress before defecting out of a mix of Pet the Dog moments with Hunter and discovering that the Sorceress was planning on killing the baby dragons for their wings, becoming the token magic-user among the heroes. In Attack of the Rhynocs, she wears an outfit akin to that of a typical stage magician. Putting this here because whil the stage magician outfit seems to be a reference to the dichotomy, most of the entry is written as "rabbit who is a magician".
  15. Characters. The Night Of The Rabbit: He's an anthropomorphic white rabbit who can open portals between worlds. Just a rabbit who is a magician.
  16. Characters. The Rising Of The Shield Hero Allies: Ethnobolt is an anthropomorphic rabbit that can take on human form and is skilled in magic. Just a rabbit who is a magician.

  18. Cuphead.Tropes N To Z: One of the members of King Dice's Court that can be fought with in the level "All Bets Are Off" is Hopus Pocus, a Hair-Raising Hare that attacks by conjuring up playing card symbols and rabbit skulls. As written, just a rabbit who is a magician.
  19. DarthWiki.Sword And Shadow Adventures: Technically, Cassia wasn't the magician themself, but their being a harengon involved in a magic act brings this to mind. Just a rabbit who is a magician.
  20. DarthWiki.TV Tropes Supervillain Team: Pyromaniac: A crazed pyromaniac with a custom flamethrower that's equal parts hitman-for-hire, burglar and homeland terrorist. With a malfunction in his flamethrower caused by a spell gone wrong by the hero Rabbit Magician, he gains fire powers. As written, just a rabbit who is a magician.
  21. JustForFun.TV Tropes Neutral Team: Magician Detective: Rabbit Magician's former assistant. After his partner was turned into an anthro rabbit and went off to fight crime with magic, he decided to become a police detective to gain another source of revenue. He refuses to take sides, only going with facts. And true to his name, he plays the weekend warrior card by doing magic on the weekends and his days off from the police force. As written, just a rabbit who is a magician.

  2. Series.Welcome To Pooh Corner: Rabbit, of course! ZCE.
  3. VideoGame.Armed And Delirious: Downplayed since it only comes up once, but The Rabbit uses magic to imprison Donna in a hat. Not clear on if the rabbit-magician combo is relevant.
  4. Fanfic.Aimless: Biancia is one, like canon, and is much better at it here. Low context.

JustForFun.Trope Names For A Band: A one-man Industrial Metal group/Performance Artist that forgoes the usual Cyberpunk/political edge of the genre and instead favors Post-Modern Magik/Urban Fantasy, doing high-octane acts of prestidigitation on-stage while the instrumentals play in the background, said tricks usually involving an ironic twist to them (Saw a Woman in Half with blood and live doves coming out of the two halves, getting pulled through the hat instead of pulling a rabbit out, etc). JFF joke example that deliberately isn't the trope. Unclassifiable.
