    The Farm

Randy

A modelling male red fox. Was raised by humans.

  • Butt-Monkey: The object of a lot of comic mishaps, including quite a bit of physical humor.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Won't kill for food, ever. Meat that's already dead and pre-packaged is fine with him, though.
    • Myrtle’s antics have been eroding this, to the point where he’s threatened to avert this trope.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Gets the attention of both Cindy and Dusk.
  • Intellectual Animal: Bordering on Civilized Animal. He can understand human language, read, and interpret maps. He could probably even write if not for the limitations of fox anatomy.
  • Manchild: Played sympathetically. He's had such a sheltered upbringing that the other characters just can't bring themselves to shatter his innocence. After his 'wedding', he grows up considerably.
  • Nice Guy: Painfully so. He can barely bring himself to feel happy over a turn of events that works out well for him if someone else is inconvenienced (e.g. most of the cats moving out of the barn), and he feels guilt over any relief he does feel. Naturally, the rare moments when he is less than nice have all the more impact because of this — but even then he's usually standing up for someone else, not for himself.
  • Papa Wolf: The flashes of “less-than-niceness” tend to center around his kits as of late.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Orange fur, green eyes, and the main protagonist.
  • Virginity Makes You Stupid: He's completely naïve and too trusting of the cats.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: He relies on what he's learned from human sources to tell him about life, romance, etc. (and to his credit, he can negotiate a purely human context pretty well). In the ways of the wild, he's clueless.

Myrtle

A white hen who manages the inventory and mail of the farm. Also the only one that can write 'human'.
  • Big Eater: Perpetually in the mood for a snack. Even if the barn is almost out of fox chow, she has an entire closet full of junk food.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She has terrible judgment and no idea how to take advice, nor whom to ask. Case in point, she thinks Vert Lin, a semi-addled mole who lives in the dump, is a Hermit Guru.
  • Daytime Drama Queen: A television addict, particularly soap operas.
  • The Ditz: She has big ideas but no perspective or common sense.
  • The Fashionista: How she fancies herself. While her efforts to give Cindy a makeover resulted in nothing worse than a Costume-Test Montage, a later attempt ends up with one fox kit dyed green and another dyed blue.
  • Feather Fingers: Her wings are usually treated like arms, with the wingtips as her hands.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: She's the only one who can write 'human,' so the barn animals need her to set up deliveries, get acting jobs for Randy, call the vet, etc. But her selfishness, thoughtlessness, and borderline idiocy don't really endear her to any of them. Most of them tolerate her at best, while both Cindy and Dusk have threatened to eat her without losing the audience's sympathy. As of late, it’s to the point where Randy is on the verge of doing the latter.
  • Imagine Spot: Her 'stories' featuring Randy, Cindy, and other animal characters. Largely notable for the Art Shift that turns them into anthropomorphic characters on dramatic and implausible adventures.
He was born Lord Redstoke — but the jungle knew him only as Randy of the Apes.
  • I Want Grandkids: She's an ardent Shipper on Deck for Randy and Cindy (and, briefly, Randy and Dusk) because she wants to be mother hen to a nest of fox kits. When it looks like things have fallen through, she sits clutching a book of baby names and bawling.
  • Moral Myopia: It's good if it works out for her. Case in point: she once directly told Randy and Cindy that only 25% of fox kits survive in the wild, so they should probably pick their favorite before they set out. They were understandably shocked and traumatized — but they stayed at the barn, so it was a 'win' for Myrtle.

Stu

Male rabbit. Knows stage magic.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: His left ear is brown and his right ear is the same light tan as his body color. He's the only significant character with mismatched ears.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: The closest the barn has to a manager. He keeps track of things and usually knows what everyone is up to.
  • Parental Substitute: He and Eddie have taken Randy under their metaphorical wing. His advice tends to be wise and brotherly; her advice tends to be blunt and direct.
  • Rabbit Magician: Used to be owned by a magician and has picked up some tricks, occasionally suggested to be actual magic.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: As he describes his marriage, they're happy because Eddie enjoys fighting and Stu enjoys making up.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: His main trick is to vanish or reappear without warning. Whether it's his natural rabbit speed or something he picked up from a former owner is unclear.

Eddie

Female rabbit. Was mistaken for male by their previous owner. Has had 59 rabbit kits with Stu.
  • My Nayme Is: Yes, it's "Eddie," not "Edie."
  • Tsundere: Often quite sweet and motherly, but when she's angry, everyone cowers.
  • Your Tomcat Is Pregnant: Was mistaken for male (and is still mistaken sometimes). The first time they're mentioned on camera is after they have had 29 kits.

Kira

A grey and white housecat belonging to the humans who buy Green Mountain Studio Animals. She likes to hang out at the barn and cause mischief.
  • Animals Fear Neutering: As she lets slip to Cindy, she's been spayed, and warns her that being around humans isn't good for family prospects. This leads Cindy to flee the barn while pregnant, causing a lot of hassle, and leading to a moment of genuine remorse from Kira.
  • Cat Stereotype: As the semi-official leader of the barn cats, she fits the "older/wiser mentor" stereotype of the gray cat, but she also indulges in some feline laziness and definitely brings the snark.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She's okay with comic mayhem and pranks, but she draws the line at deeds that could cause real harm.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: She has a white patch over her left eye.
  • Loves Secrecy: Big time. She's often in possession of some piece of information that could easily resolve a problem, but she keeps it to herself because the chaos amuses her.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: She eventually gets bored with Randy because he can't avoid any traps, and doesn't even bother with poor naïve Hue.
  • Not Me This Time: Pleads innocence to the "prank" that gives Cindy a near-concussion and, much later, to two of the fox kits ending up dyed unnatural colors. (The real culprit is Myrtle in both cases).
  • Shipper on Deck: She eventually comes to support Randy and Cindy's marriage, out of a combination of quiet respect for Cindy and gentle pity for Randy.

Toast

Yellow male cat. Had the unfortunate job of being Dusk's unwilling minion.
  • Action Survivor: He's frequently in over his head, but he manages to get by.
  • Cat Stereotype: Fits the "sweet-tempered but not very bright" description of a ginger tomcat.
  • Characterization Marches On: Originally he was just another cat who wanted his turn at tormenting Randy, then he ran into Dusk and got forced into being her spy, then Cindy called him a friend, which led to some unexpected moral dilemmas.
  • Meaningful Name: Originally named as a pair with his sister Marmalade, but when Dusk started coercing him into her dirty work, he was "toast" in a different sense.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: He's not mean. Not remotely. This keeps him sympathetic even when Dusk all but tells him to murder Hubert, because there's simply no way he could pull it off.

Fluffy

A giant rabbit. Son of Eddie and Stu.
  • Morality Pet: Willingly takes on the role for Dusk, thinking she's probably mean because she's unhappy and lonely and needs a friend. It works.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He's just a rabbit — granted, a big rabbit — but he routinely wipes the floor with attackers twice his size.

Penny

A rabbit. Daughter of Eddie and Stu. Married to Jon.

Brisbane

A wallaroo, not a giant rabbit as some might believe.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He knows a lot (often more than he lets on), but he has a tendency to be Literal-Minded and ever so slightly daffy.
  • I Am Not Weasel: The forest animals unfamiliar with Australian wildlife often mistake him for some kind of giant rabbit, while those who do know of kangaroos or wallabies assume he is one instead of the less well-known wallaroo.
  • Kangaroos Represent Australia: Subverted, while he's named for a city in Australia, he's a wallaroo (larger than wallabies but smaller than kangaroos) and actually from Tampa.

Arthur

A white horse, retired from animal acting because he can't be ridden.
  • Brainy Specs: A fetching pair of half-glasses, perched somehow on his broad nose.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: The most well-read of the cast, and one of the nicest..
  • Horsing Around: Unintentionally, and to his great embarrassment. Whenever a human gets on his back, he panics and bolts.
  • Intellectual Animal: Quite smart and an avid reader.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: As noted above, he simply can't help running whenever someone tries to ride him. (Someone human anyway; fellow animals are okay).
  • The Smart Guy: Probably the most intelligent barn resident in terms of academic knowledge

    Wildlife

Cindy

Female red fox that moves into the farm.

Dusk

Female red fox that lives around the farm.
  • Being Evil Sucks: On rare occasions, particularly when she finds herself Alone Among the Couples, she'll realize that her manipulative ways aren't bringing her any happiness. Unfortunately, her usual response is to double down.
  • Butt-Monkey: She's frequently victim to the Running Gag of being surprised while underneath something, causing her to startle and hit her head.
  • Cunning Like a Fox: She's smarter than she lets on, but most of her schemes and plans benefit only herself, and only for her immediate, short-term satisfaction.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even at her worst, she simply can't bring herself to harm tiny Pippi.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The dark to Cindy's light — seductive and sly. She has darker overall coloration with a lot of black, purple eyes, and a fur pattern that suggests Excessive Evil Eyeshadow.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She envies anyone who gets more attention than she does, and once she starts to think of Fluffy as a friend, she goes to pieces with jealousy when he starts to court Rose.
  • Horned Hairdo: Playing on the Ears as Hair motif; her ears have a sharp point and a slight inward curve to suggest horns.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Of The Vamp variety. If charm fails, she will resort to physical threats, and if both of those fail, then maybe she'll be honest with you.
  • Proud Beauty: She's beautiful, and boy does she know it.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: A semi-frequent ploy is to act helpless or distraught (after using her charms on any males in the area), knowing that Cindy will look like the mean one for trying to run her off.

Jon

Grey rabbit that is married to Penny.

    The Zoo

April

Female red fox. Sister to Randy. Has three kits.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: She has worn a red bow around her neck since the story arc where she and her kits moved to the zoo.
  • Action Mom: Capable of some impressive derring-do (see below), and dreams of being the first fox to dance on the moon.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Socks a timber wolf three times her size in the nose for threatening Randy.
  • But I Can't Be Pregnant!: A third-person variant — she shows up in autumn with kits, about six months out of season. Cindy and Dusk are completely baffled by this unnatural turn of events. Randy explains that she was living in Australia, where the seasons are reversed (and when that doesn't quite convince Cindy, Stu tells her it was "magic.") April, of course, is well aware of how it all happened.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Much more worldly than her brother, despite a similar domesticated background.
  • Furry Female Mane: An aversion, unless she's meant to have Boyish Short Hair.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Subverted. She seems to fall for Dusk's manipulations at first, only to reveal that she saw through the other vixen immediately.
  • Shipper on Deck: She likes the idea of Randy with Cindy (at least, more than she likes Dusk), and helps them through some relationship woes later.
  • Villain Respect: Dusk likes her, since she has Randy's personality without his naivete.
