Wicks checked: 0/50

  1. Horrible.Animated Films: Rob Schneider hasn't been nearly successful in film as he was in Saturday Night Live, but he reaches a new low with Norm of the North, which does not pass the So Bad, It's Good test by a long shot. The plot (if you can call it that) is Norm traveling to New York City in order to stop a developer from building a housing complex in the Arctic. The problems with this story are obvious even to a toddler, but that's not even the start of it. NYC pothole
  2. Main.Fallen States Of America:
    • The Highlander spin off Highlander: The Search for Vengeance is mainly set in the distant future where the world has gone to crap. America itself has been split up into city states and if New York is anything to go by; they're run by crazed corporations with their own personal armies. Throughout the film we see other great empires/countries fall so it's kinda a running theme. NYC pothole
    • The Nazis Take Over the World in Wolfenstein: The New Order and that includes America, topped off by dropping an atomic bomb on New York City. The rest of the country surrenders shortly after. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus follows on as the Kreisau Circle heads to America to liberate it from Nazi oppression - coming face to face with an America with such timeless media classics as Liesel (an A Boy and His X-style story about a young girl and her car-sized, fire-breathing Robot Dog) and German or Else! (a game show testing contestants' knowledge about Germany - with anyone who fails a question being sent to a re-education camp) that is soon coming up on "Changeover Day" (the day when speaking English in America will be outlawed and punishable by execution). bombing NYC causes surrender
  3. Film.Adam 2009: The movie takes place primarily in New York City.
  4. Film. The Out Of Towners: The film centers on the married couple of George (Lemmon) and Gwen Kellerman (Dennis). They live in Twin Oaks, Ohio, but George's company has invited him to interview for a possible job promotion in New York City. From the moment they depart their home town, the Kellermans suffer nearly every disaster out-of-towners could possibly experience, with George maniacally and desperately collecting the names of everyone who wrongs them—vowing to sue every last one of them—and Gwen accepting each new indignity with quiet resignation.
  5. ComicBook.Life With Archie The Married Life: Archie and Betty spend some time living in New York City.
  6. TotallyRadical.Video Games: Pokémon: The mascot for the 2011 World Championships is a "skater-punk"-styled Pikachu. The logo for that event also has a lot of Totally Radical in it. It sort of makes sense since Unova is based on New York and New Jersey, and that's stereotypical '90s Big Applesauce. NYC reference
  7. WesternAnimation. The Romance Of Betty Boop:
    • Set in 1939 New York, Betty Boop is featured as an independent girl with big dreams; as of the present though, she is working two jobs to make ends meet during the Great Depression - a shoe clerk by day and a chorus girl by night at the Club Bubbles of her Uncle Mischa. A local iceman named Freddy is in love with her but Betty only has eyes for the rich playboy Waldo Van Lavish.
    • The entire special takes place in New York City (specifically near the end of The Great Depression).
  8. Literature. My Side Of The Mountain: A boy named Sam Gribley runs away from his home in New York to live in the Catskill Mountains. The book documents his time up in the Catskills, and is a detailed and fairly realistic take on how to go about wilderness survival. NYC pothole
  9. TabletopGame.Ticket To Ride: New York (stand-alone game) A new mini game using taxis on Manhattan NYC pothole
  10. Film.Black And White 1999: Takes place in New York City, especially in Harlem.
  11. VideoGame.The Secret World:
  12. Music.Lana Del Rey: Several of Lana's songs make local references to New York City, the city of her birth, but "Greenwich" is notable for being named in tribute to Greenwich Village, where Lana used to live at one point.
  13. Music.Marvin Hamlisch: Born in New York City to Austrian immigrants, his father, an accordionist and bandleader, saw that he demonstrated great musical talent at a early age, and helped him enroll into the Juilliard School of Arts (specifically, what has become the Juilliard School Pre-College Division) at age 7.

    • She has now moved to Manhattan.
  16. Characters.Pokemon The Series Black And White Rivals: Irony: He initially looks down on Ash for being a "backwater hillbilly" from Kanto, to which he refers to the region as "the boonies". Yet, the Kanto region was inspired by the real-life region in Japan and is one of the most highly developed, urbanized, and industrialized parts of it. The Unova region, on the other hand, was explicitly based on the United States of America, specifically, the Big Applesauce.
  17. Main.Disaster Dodging Dog: The first episode of BBC docu-drama End Day centers around a megatsunami triggered by a massive eruption of the volcano Cumbre Vieja and spreading across the Atlantic. I hated it ... and now I'd do anything to be back there." He also suggests that Sydney and Adrian could move there. He even speculates what their lives would be like in Manhattan: "You guys can get some sketchy apartment that you work two jobs to afford while you take classes on anything imaginable and he hangs out with his unemployed artist friends in Bushwick. Come home at night to eat Korean food with your kooky neighboors, then make love on your shabby mattress on the floor. The next day, start all over again. Not a bad way of life. "
  26. Recap.Transformers G 1 City Of Steel: New York became the new backdrop for the battle between Autobots and Decepticons.
  27. ParentalAbandonment.Literature: The Butterfly Garden: Inara's taken in by her grandmother who also doesn't give a damn about her. She raises herself while her grandmother drinks, smokes, and watches TV. Her parents never bother to call or write and stop paying their shared child support within a few months. When her grandmother dies Inara takes what money she can find and disappears into the Big Applesauce, with a fake ID and the name "Inara", rather than risk being placed back with her parents or another relation.
