  • A commercial for Energizer Batteries parodies the series, complete with Energizer Bunny wearing the Ranger's signature mask and leaving a AA Energizer battery in place of the Ranger's silver bullet. The commercial is even done in black and white.

Films - Live-Action

  • In My Science Project, Michael and Vince's enemies refer to Vince as Tonto.
  • In Logan, when Laura rides the toy mechanical horse, the little song it plays is, of course, the William Tell Overture.

Literature

  • It: Young Bill Denbrough names his bicycle Silver, and the related Catchphrase, "Hi-yo Silver, away!" is one of the few things he can say without stuttering.
  • In If I Fall, If I Die, another boy refers to Will, who has spent most of his life indoors, and Jonah, who skateboards, as the Home Ranger and the Rolling Indian.
  • In Save the Enemy, Zoey remembers playing Lone Ranger at age nine with Molly. Molly hung from a tree branch, while Zoey, pretending to be a horse, was planning to run under her so she could drop onto her shoulders. The branch broke first, giving Molly a minor concussion.
  • In Navigating Early, Jack and Early listen to the Lone Ranger on the radio.
  • While in El Salvador, Able Team rescue an army unit from a guerilla ambush. To maintain their cover their local liaison officer tells them to pose as mercenaries and conceal their faces, whereupon Gadgets makes a "Who were those masked men?" quip.

Live-Action TV

  • On Happy Days, Fonzie is a huge fan of the character. He gets a The Knights Who Say "Squee!" moment when he gets to meet John Hart (in costume, of course).
  • The Goodies
    • In "Scoutrageous", Bill and Graham become a couple of renegade Boy Scouts, causing Tim to exclaim, "Who were those Masked Scouts?!" after they shake him down. Answer Cut to...
      The Narrator: From out of the West he came...The Lone Scout! (cue masked Graham) ...plus One. (cue masked Bill who tries to imitate a Rearing Horse only to fall down the hill)
    • In "A Kick in the Arts", Olympic sportsmen have turned to crime due to lack of government funding. Tim is shown as an athlete in a Domino Mask racing alongside the Queen's Royal carriage and stealing her crown. The Queen of course demands to know: "Who was that masked man?" Then he's shown as the notorious "Lone Shotputter", smashing shop windows with his shot put and stealing what's inside.

Webcomics

  • Poison Ivy Gulch: On 9/3/2021, Mayor Sidewinder meets a parody of the character called "the Provolone Ranger", running the town's first delicatessen.

Western Animation

  • At the end of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode, "Magnificent Sonic", a dog says, "Who was that fast hedgehog?", and Sonic says, "Hi-ho, Sonic, away!"
  • Looney Tunes:
  • Popeye: In the two-reel special Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, Popeye/Aladdin calls for his horse by shouting "Hi-di-ho, Silver!".
  • The Simpsons: In "Treehouse of Horror XVI", the Simpsons think Nelson is a raccoon for Halloween, and he insists he's the Lone Ranger but is "too poor to afford the hat". When Bart points out that his "mask" is actually axle grease, he says "Don't listen to him, Silver" and "gallops" away on a toilet brush.
  • Wacky Races (1968): In "Dopey Dakota Derby", when Dick Dastardly disguises himself as a wanted criminal named Deadweed Dick as part of his plan to scare the Wacky Racers, he says "Hi-ho, Mean Machine, away!"

  • Clayton Moore would write a book on his acting experiences called I Was That Masked Man.
