  • In Way of the Dragon, "As A Judgement" from the score plays as Colt steps off the airplane in Rome.
  • In My Name Is Nobody, the music in the two duel scenes between Jack Beauregard and 'Nobody' contains obvious references to the music in this film, in particular to scenes where Frank was involved. Not only did Henry Fonda star in the film, but Sergio Leone was a producer.
  • In The Killer (1989), Ah Jong plays the harmonica in a similar manner to Harmonica.
  • In Back to the Future Part III, the shot panning over Hill Valley in 1885 is a direct homage to the panning shot over Flagstone.
  • In The Quick and the Dead, the Lady's Troubled Backstory Flashback and vendetta with Herod are direct homages to Harmonica's vendetta against Frank.
  • In Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, when we see the carnage after the fight between the gangs of Dog and Rory Breaker, and again later, it plays the dirge-like theme associated with Harmonica and Frank, and which plays, among other times, when Frank massacres the McBain family and later when he finds everybody dead after a massive shootout on Morton's train.
  • In Kill Bill, on her way to Budd's trailer (after escaping the coffin), the Bride is walking through a sun-bathed desert out of focus, then slowly comes into focus, just like Frank. Also, they way you frst see Bill is similar to the way you first see Harmonica.
  • In A History of Violence, the scene early in the film where one of the killers (who eventually are taken down by Tom Stall) points the gun at the little girl is very similar to the famous scene where Frank points his gun at the last remaining member of the McBain clan, also a child. And another thing that follows both those scenes is a loud noise, (a whistle blowing/Tom's daughter screaming).
  • In Australia, Sarah arriving in Faraway Downs to find her husband killed, the funeral scene, and the design of Faraway Downs (with squeaking windmill and water tower) are all inspired by this film

Live Action TV

  • In the Hi-de-Hi! episode "Opening Day", while the camp staff are waiting for the train they mimic the famous opening scene with the fly landing on the face of one of the actors, water dripping onto a hat etc.
  • In the Psych episode "High Noon-ish", Frank McBain is an amalgamation of Frank and Brett McBain and Sweetwater Land Corp references the name of the town Jill establishes.
  • In the Breaking Bad episode "Ozymandias", the shot of Walt collapsing in despair after Hank is killed by the Neo-Nazis mirrors the scene where Young Harmonica collapses after his brother is killed by Frank and his gang.
    • The scene is referenced again in the Better Call Saul episode "Mijo" when Jimmy is thrown onto the dirt with duct tape over his mouth.
