How is he a Count? Did the title come from the land?

With over 50 years of existence, it should come as no surprise how many nods to the Monster Cereals have shown up in pop culture.

Advertising

  • Count Chocula, along with a variety of other mascots, appears in a MasterCard advertisement from the 2005 Super Bowl. Frankenberry gets a mention in the commercial during dinner chatter.

Comic Books

  • In the "Titans Around the World" arc of Geoff Johns' run on Teen Titans, Robotman of the Doom Patrol mockingly refers to the Brain as "Frankenberry" due to the latter's cloned body having a huge, bulbous head and a scar on his forehead.

Comic Strips

  • Off the Mark has featured a few appearances of Count Chocula in strips:
    • Count Chocula makes an appearance in the strip "Lucky Gets Lucky" as a cereal mascot partygoer.
    • Count Chocula also appears in the strip "Break Bread" as a witness to the Pillsbury Doughboy's crime scene.

Fan Works

  • Count Chocula is Ebony's cereal of choice in My Immortal, though she eats her cereal with blood.

Films — Animation

  • Foodfight! was originally supposed to contain a guest appearance from Count Chocula. After the film was reanimated, this deal slipped through, and he was instead replaced by Vlad Chocul, an unflattering Expy of him.
  • Hotel Transylvania 2 features a scene of a couple accidentally offending Dracula by praising "his chocolatey cereal". This offends Dracula more than them accidentally asking if he know where they could "grab a bite to eat".

Films — Live Action

  • Quentin Tarantino threw a reference into Reservoir Dogs, where Mr. Orange has a box of Fruit Brute in his apartment. The cereal had long been discontinued by that time in the real world (this was pre-revival era), if not necessarily in Tarantino's.

Live Action TV

  • The episode "This Episode Sucks" from Psych features a running gag of Gus' Blacula costume being mistaken for Count Chocula.

Toys

  • The "Food Fight" series of Garbage Pail Kids gave the three recurring monsters parodies, with Kent Chocula/Count Chuck, Freaky Frank/Brainless Bert, and Boo Beryl/Drew Berry. Fruity Yummy Mummy also makes a cameo on the Boo Beryl/Drew Berry card.
  • A variety of Wacky Packages have given parodies to the original five monsters:
    • Count Chocula has been parodied as "Count Funkula" (All New Series 2), "Count Cluckula" (Postcards Series 7), "Count Chalkula" (Old School Series 4), "Count Chuckula" (2020 Weekly Series), "Count Nebula" (Attacky Packages Series 5), "Count Choculove" (2022 Monthly Series), and "Couch Chocula" (Wacky Packages X David Brody of Z100). He also makes an appearance in the "Qreep" card (Old School Series 1).
    • Frankenberry has been parodied as "Franken Brainy" (Old School Series 1), "Flabben Belly" (Postcards Series 7), "Franken Bury" (All New Series 8), "Al Franken Berry" (Trumpocracy), "Flunkin' Berry" (50th Anniversary), "Prankin’ Berry" (2020 Weekly Series), and "Fusion Berry" (Attacky Packages Series 5).
    • Boo Berry has been parodied as "Gloo Berry" (Postcard Series 7), "Goo Bury" (Chrome Cutting Room Floor), "Honey Boo Boo Berry" (All New Series 11), "Fondue Berry" (Old School Series 5), and "Bug Berry" (Attacky Packages Series 5).
    • Fruit Brute has been parodied as "Fruit Brew" (Old School Series 6).
    • Fruity Yummy Mummy has been parodied as "Dummy Mummy" (Old School Series 8).

Video Games

  • Boo Berry and Count Chocula make cameo appearances in NaCl 96's ending of Chex Quest HD.
  • The original five monsters appear in Funko Pop! form as playable characters in Funko Pop! Blitz. Some of their collectible stickers are references to the "Monster Mash" concept.

Web Comics

  • Breakfast of the Gods features the original five monsters in roles throughout the comic. Count Chocula is the Big Bad of the comic, Frankenberry, Fruit Brute, and Boo Berry are his lackeys though it turns out Boo Berry is actually playing a heroic role, and Fruity Yummy Mummy has a bit role.

Web Video

  • Count Chocula is used as a mockery against Dracula in the "Vlad the Impaler vs Count Dracula" battle of Epic Rap Battles of History.

  • Futurama: As a brief joke about how much has changed in the year 3000, in the episode "The Series Has Landed", Leela offers Fry some Archduke Chocula cereal.
