Heathers has a cult following and has amassed several references, especially when it comes to works involving an Alpha Bitch and her Girl Posse.
Examples:
- In the Ma Fille chapter "Scary Movie", the WVBA league watches a version of the movie that has the scrapped "Everyone Comes Back" Fantasy Party Ending. They are horrified at the content of what they believed was a chick flick.
- In the epilogue of The Wrath of Avelina, when Stefanie designates Mirabel as "Queen Bee", she gives her a red scrunchy a la Heather Chandler.
- In Queens of Geek, Jamie says, "Chaos is what killed the dinosaurs, darling," in a surprisingly good Christian Slater voice.
- In one episode of Defiance, Pottinger attributes "The extreme always seems to make an impression" to an old world philosopher.
- When Mystery Science Theater 3000 did Hercules (1958), one of their riffs was "I love my dead Greek son!"
- Season 3 of Riverdale did an episode in which the school put on its own production of the stage show, which is a bit recursive considering the Theme Naming going on with Veronica and Betty. Naturally it was a Musical Episode with songs from the show, albeit significantly altered. (The revised songs match the PG-13 version used in real-life school productions.)
- The music video to "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX is a hybrid of Heathers and Clueless references.
- The Veronicas' comeback single "Did You Miss Me?" starts with the line "I'm a Veronica" (which is repeated throughout the song).
- Freshy Kanal's RAP BATTLE series: Jason Dean engaged in a rap battle against Jeff the Killer in season 4.
- The Ashleys from Recess are inspired by the Heathers. They're a clique of four popular girls who are all named "Ashley".
- One episode of Ugly Americans has Randall's father say "I love my gay zombie son!"
