Recap / Xenoblade Chronicles One Chapter Twelve

Go To

The 12th chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles 1. Chapter 12 centers around Shulk's group washing ashore on an island made up of the Mechonis' cut off hand after they all fell down to it following the destruction of Galahad Fortress. Fiora's been freed from Egil's control, which Shulk and company come across a hidden village that consists of the Mechonis' true machine race, the Machina.

1) Another Shulk

Shulk has a dream he's seen many times before where he's a young child investigating scrap metal in the Bionis wilderness. However, he suddenly falls through the ground and disappears into the darkness as an older "second Shulk" watches him fall.

Waking up from the dream, Shulk finds himself having washed ashore onto the island on the endless sea after falling down to it from Galahad Fortress. The island being the Mechonis' cut off hand. Looking around the beach, Shulk sees something glowing red along the watery shore, and heads off to investigate it.

2) Seeking Water

Shulk discovers the glowing red object to be the remnants of Face-Nemesis, which he pulls an unconscious Fiora out of it to bring her to safety on the beach. Along with seeing the triangular object on Fiora's chest that houses Lady Meyneth's soul, Shulk tries to wake Fiora up, but she struggles to do so. As a result, Shulk figures that Fiora needs a drink of water.

3) The First Kiss

After finding and storing some fresh water in a container, Shulk tries to drain the container into Fiora's mouth, but the water refuses to go in. Thus, Shulk puts the water into his own mouth, and "kisses" Fiora to force the water to go into her body. This causes Fiora to wake up, which Fiora notes she just experienced her first kiss. Seeing that Fiora finally remembers him, Shulk and Fiora hug it out over a tearful reunion.

Following the reunion, Shulk and Fiora take a moment to rest along the island shore. Fiora uses the break to explain to Shulk what happened to her starting from when everything went dark for her after her "death" in Colony 9. That the next thing she knew, she was within the cockpit of Face-Nemesis in a half-Homs / half-Mechon body, and that while she was conscious and wanted to call out to her friends, she couldn't due to someone else (Meyneth) controlling her body. Shulk gets the gist that Fiora being controlled is why it came off like Fiora forgot about them. Fiora then continues on that she doesn't know much about the person within her other than it being clear to her that the person using her body was urgently trying to accomplish some sort of goal. However, the person within her appears to have gone into hibernation, which is why Fiora finally has control of her body again.

Shulk's glad to hear that the person controlling Fiora is gone given how messed up such an action is. However, Fiora isn't as convinced as she feels like she wants to help the person inside her, much to Shulk's confusion. Fiora explains that the person within her appears to be a kind soul as along with taking care of her Homs body, the person responded to her call for help to protect Shulk and company during the battle of Galahad Fortress. Thus, Fiora remains determined to help the person within her, and asks Shulk for help. In return, Shulk agrees to help support the person within Fiora, which Fiora appreciates. Shulk then officially welcomes Fiora back to them with Fiora claiming that she's glad to be back.

Following the break, Shulk figures that their first objective should be to find the others, and claims that they'll be glad to see that Fiora's back. The two of them head inland to begin the search for their companions.

4) I Will Protect You

During Shulk and Fiora's search around the island, Fiora suddenly becomes exhausted to the point of needing a break, which they find a spot to rest. During the break, Shulk remains on watch duty while Fiora rests. He checks over the Monado, which Shulk sees that while he can activate it now (thanks to Meyneth at Galahad Fortress), it's still acting out of sorts due to the continued power disruption from the Mechonis' Apocrypha Generator. Despite the Monado not being at full power, Shulk tells himself that he will protect Fiora no matter what.

Eventually, Fiora wakes up, and asks for some water. Shulk reminds her to eat as well, but Fiora informs him that her body just runs on water now. That due to her body being part Mechon now, she doesn't get hungry or have to eat. Fiora then makes it clear to Shulk that it's okay for him to leave her given that the old Fiora's no longer here, and that the current her would just be dragging him down. However, Shulk quickly refuses; claiming that the Fiora he knows is right before him, and that he doesn't want to go through the experience of losing her again. Thus, Shulk announces that he will protect Fiora, and that they also can't abandon the person within her.

Before Shulk and Fiora could decide what to do next, a group of hunting Mechon discover their location and attack them. Shulk moves to fight the Mechon, but Fiora still hasn't recovered from whatever's exhausting her, and is forced to stay put. Remembering Alvis' words that the Monado bends to his will, Shulk makes it clear his goal to protect Fiora. He manages to activate the Monado despite the Apocrypha Generator's disruption, and battles it out with the Mechon.

5) Reyn and Sharla

After disposing of the Mechon, Shulk's left in an exhausted state due to using the Monado while it's being disrupted by the Apocrypha Generator. He checks on Fiora, who's back to trying to get some rest. However, Shulk and her are suddenly surrounded by two odd looking Mechon machines.

Meanwhile at another location of the island, Reyn and Sharla are seen having washed ashore together. Having woken up before Reyn, Sharla informs him that she couldn't find anyone scouting around, but also thanks Reyn for keeping her safe during the destruction of Galahad Fortress. Reyn however feels down that he broke his promise to Fiora about keeping Shulk safe, and feels useless now that Shulk's become strong enough to take care of himself. In return, Sharla breaks out into a speech about how Colony 6 and its defense force never gave up despite all the problems they faced during the Mechon invasion, which seeing his competition, Reyn admits that it's not time for him to give up either.

With his confidence back, Reyn suggests that they begin searching for the others. He and Sharla then head off to explore the island.

6) Finding Shulk

As Reyn and Sharla are exploring the inner areas of the island, they suddenly hear a battle going on nearby. Upon investigating the battle, Reyn and Sharla reunite with Shulk at the exact moment that he's about to take on the two odd looking Mechon machines, which they move to help him out.

7) Profound Joy

After disposing of the Mechon, Reyn and Sharla are glad to be back with Shulk. Fiora then comes out of hiding, which results in a reunion with Reyn. Despite her part-Mechon body, Reyn's happy to see that she's finally back to normal.

The four of them have a break afterwards, which they wonder how Dunban's going to react to his sister having finally returned. Following the break, Sharla advises Fiora to take it easy, but Fiora remains determined to continue moving in order to reunite with her brother. Fiora also thanks Reyn for keeping the promise to protect Shulk, and points out that Reyn now comes off as someone who's a lot more dependable compared to before. The four of them then head off to search for their remaining companions.

8) Dunban and Riki

As the Shulk, Fiora, Reyn and Sharla group explore the island for their missing companions, they suddenly stop due to Fiora hearing something nearby thanks to her Mechon body. Suddenly, they're met by two mechanial humanoid beings walking towards them.

Meanwhile at another location of the island, Dunban, Melia and Riki are seen having washed ashore together. While exploring around for their companions, Riki claims to be exhausted and needs to rest. Dunban agrees to stop for the time being while Melia tries to deny that she needs rest. During the break, Dunban remains on watch duty while Melia sleeps. Riki then returns from his hunt with fish for them to eat. Dunban points out how he caught on that Riki wasn't actually tired. That Riki was actually worried for Melia, who was tired, which Riki forced the break to happen knowing that Melia's someone who wouldn't admit to being tired.

Riki doesn't deny it, but also notes how Dunban doesn't look happy. In return, Dunban explains his worry for his sister, Fiora, and that time is running out for her and Shulk to get together. Especially now that Fiora's become something else. Dunban remains disheartened that he's not currently with Shulk while the current search for Fiora's going on, which Riki reassures him that Dunban's doing a good job as the one who has to watch over Shulk and Fiora. In return, Dunban finds it surprising that he's getting advice from a Nopon of all things, which Riki claims to know a thing or two given that he already has a big family to take care of.

Following the break, Dunban, Melia and Riki discuss their current objective to search for their missing companions. Riki brings them to the entrance to a nearby pipe tunnel that he discovered when he was exploring around during the break, which Dunban and Melia agree to go through the pipe.

9) Hidden Machina Village

Exiting out the other end of the pipe tunnel, the Dunban, Melia, and Riki group stumble upon some sort of mechanical looking village. They spot Shulk, Reyn and Sharla running towards them, which results in a happy reunion. Shulk's side then introduces Fiora to the newcomers; resulting in a heartfelt family reunion between Dunban and her. As Dunban and Fiora hug it out, Melia gives her congratulations to Shulk for getting his childhood friend back.

Dunban then asks about the village they've arrived at, which they're greeted by the humanoid mechanical beings that brought Shulk's side to the village. Shulk informs Dunban, Melia and Riki that the village's mechanical people are helping them out, which a female mechanial person named Linada approaches them. The mechanical woman states that they're the Machina, the true people of Mechonis. Linada assures the group that everything will be explained to them in time, and that they should explore around their Hidden Machina Village first before meeting up with her at Junks, the main structure of their village.

Unlike the Mechon, the Machina are friendly towards Shulk and company, and are fine with them staying at their Hidden Machina Village. One of the Machina residents that Shulk can talk to is a trader named Eleqa, who starts up a quest chain that eventually allows for Shulk to learn how to use the Monado's Armour ability. Said ability reduces incoming physical and ether damage taken.

10) Fiora's New Body

Shulk and company eventually meet up with the Machina woman, Linada, at the entrance of Junks. Linada explains how they're the true race of the Mechonis while the Mechon are just their creation, which Dunban questions why the Machina are sending their Mechon machines to attack Bionis. Fiora tries to assure her brother that the Machina mean no harm, but she holds her Mechon body in pain due to it still acting out of sorts.

Linada approaches Fiora to investigate the latter, which the Machina can tell that Fiora's body isn't fully functional. Thus, Shulk explains how Fiora's been out-of-sorts trying to get used to her current Mechon body. This catches Linada by surprise having not noticed until now that Fiora's got a partially built Mechon body. As a result, Linada offers her services to help Fiora out given that she works in the village as a Machina doctor, which she claims that she can work on Fiora's Mechon body to have it in working condition.

Linada proceeds to examine Fiora, and comes to the conclusion that Fiora's body is experiencing functional breakdown due to it originally being built to pilot a Face-Mechon. The Machina doctor then explains that she will take Fiora back to her lab to fix up her Mechon body to function without being connected to a Face-Mechon while Shulk and company meet with the village chief. Sharla goes along with Linada and Fiora given her medical expertise as the rest head into Junks to meet the Machina chief as the latter wishes to speak with them.

11) Miqol's Request

Within Junks, Shulk and company meet Miqol, a large but friendly Machina that serves as the chief of the Hidden Machina Village. Dunban asks what Miqol wishes to speak to them about, which Miqol states that he has a request. He first seeks confirmation if the weapon Shulk wields is truly the Monado, and if their actions are what caused the destruction of Galahad Fortress, which Shulk and company admit is the case other than letting Egil escape. Miqol reveals that Egil is another Machina, and also happens to be his son. The chief adds that this is actually related to his request, which he asks for Shulk's group to be the ones to kill Egil.

    1) Another Shulk
The story flashes back to a moment when Shulk was a young child. An older Shulk narrates the flashback as he's currently seeing the moment as a dream; stating that it's been a long time since he last saw said dream. The young Shulk is seen having fun investigating Mechon scrap metal in the Bionis wilderness, but the moment he touches one of the pieces, he suddenly falls through the ground. The older Shulk watches as his younger self falls through the hole and disappears.

Back in the present, an unconscious Shulk is seen having washed ashore onto the Mechonis' hand after falling off Galahad Fortress down to the endless sea. The Mechonis' hand had become an island on the endless sea beneath the Mechonis after it had been cut off by the Bionis during their titanic duel long ago. Eventually, Shulk wakes up, and realizes that he was seeing a dream. He then thinks back to Face-Nemesis falling from Galahad Fortress, and looks around for Fiora. Seeing something glowing red along the shore, Shulk heads towards it.

    2) Seeking Water
Upon investigating the red glow, Shulk finds what's left of the destroyed Face-Nemesis along the shore, and pulls an unconscious Fiora out of the cockpit. Shulk then drops Fiora on the shoreline to check on her, and is relieved to see that she's still breathing. He then notices the triangular object attached to Fiora's chest, and tries to pull it off, but the object starts to give off a red glow, which he decides to leave it alone for the time being due to it refusing to come off. Shulk starts calling out to Fiora to try to get her to wake up. She reacts a bit, but is still struggling to wake up fully, which Shulk takes as a sign that she needs water.

    3) The First Kiss
Shulk tries to pour water into Fiora's mouth using a water container, but her mouth's not taking the water in. Thus, Shulk puts the water into his own mouth, and "kisses" Fiora to make sure that the trapped water flows into her body. Fiora then wakes up, much to Shulk's relief. Shulk asks if she remembers him, but as he's about to introduce himself, Fiora touches his face, and states that she can't believe that she just experienced her first kiss. Shulk starts to feel relieved taking this as a sign that Fiora finally remembers, which Fiora replies that it's a given she does. She even calls Shulk by his name, much to Shulk's happiness that he hugs her in relief knowing full well that Fiora's really back. In return, Fiora hugs him back.

Shortly after, Shulk and Fiora are seen taking a break along the shore of the Mechonis' island hand. Fiora explains that she never actually forgot Shulk and the others, which Shulk remains confused as to why she never answered them. In return, Fiora states that it was because she wasn't herself anymore. That she wanted to call out to them, but couldn't. Shulk asks what she means by that, which Fiora reminds him of the attack on Colony 9, and how she thought back then during the fighting that she had died. Especially because she felt Metal-Face's claw fatally stab through her body. However, the next thing she knew after everything went dark, she had woken up with her body having been placed within a machine (Face-Nemesis). In addition, Fiora notes that from then on, it felt like there was now someone within her. Shulk asks if the person Fiora's referring to was the one they witnessed using Fiora's body to control Face-Nemesis, which Fiora answers is the case.

Fiora explains that despite her body having been controlled by another person, she was there the entire time being able to see and hear Shulk and company. However, the inability to control her body left her unable to talk to them. The result is Shulk piecing it together that Fiora's inability to speak made it seem like she didn't recognize her past friends. Fiora further explains that she was desperately crying out inside her heart, and came to understand that nobody was to hear her. Shulk assures Fiora that they always believed in her, but Fiora doesn't find such words necessary as she knows that if she was in Shulk and company's shoes, she would have found their friend not recognizing her confusing as well. Shulk then asks if Fiora knows anything about the person inside her (Lady Meyneth), which Fiora answers that other than the words the person speaks, she's unable to see into said person's thoughts. That the only thing she knows for sure is that the person inside her is urgent to complete some sort of really important mission.

Shulk next asks if Fiora knows what happened to said person now that Fiora's back in full control. In return, Fiora theorizes that the person within her is either sleeping, or the person's now in the role as the trapped person like Fiora was previously. Shulk hopes it's the latter not liking the idea of someone hijacking Fiora's body and using it as their own, which Fiora half-heartedly agrees with. He doubles down stating that it's a good riddance, and hopes this is the end of it, but Fiora this time defends what happened as she tells Shulk that the person within her's not totally to blame. Shulk asks what she means by that, which Fiora explains that while she doesn't know what the person's goal is, it's clear to Fiora that the person controlling her really needed a body to accomplish something. Thus, because of how important said goal appears to be, Fiora actually desires to help the person inside her.

Confused as to why Fiora's fine with going through with this, Shulk asks why she's okay with it. Fiora answers that even though she knew the person was controlling her body, she didn't hate the person for it. Fiora explains that she could tell that the person within her is a kind woman, and that she could feel that the person was taking care of her body. The revelation surprises Shulk, which Fiora reminds him that the person did everything she could to protect Shulk. This causes Shulk to think back to Face-Nemesis battling Egil's gold Face-Mechon in Galahad Fortress. Shulk figures that something was going on regarding Face-Nemesis during that duel, which Fiora answers to be the case. Fiora explains that the person controlling her knew what Fiora wanted, and went through with saving Shulk and company. Thus, Fiora states that this is more than enough reason to want to help the person inside her, and asks for Shulk to help her.

Accepting Fiora's decision, Shulk agrees to help figure out what the woman within Fiora is trying to do. Fiora provides her thanks, which Shulk finally says to Fiora a proper welcome back. They happily lock foreheads in companionship to one another as Fiora answers back that she's glad to be here. Shulk and Fiora return to resting along the Mechonis' hand coastline until Fiora asks what they're supposed to do now. Shulk answers that their first objective should be to find their companions as he believes that they're still alive. He adds that everyone will be surprised when they see the real Fiora. She asks who he's referring to, which along with Reyn and Dunban, Shulk explains of how they met Sharla, Riki and Melia along the way, and figures that she'll like them. Fiora catches on that this means that Shulk's been through a lot, which Shulk agrees with, but is just glad that the two of them are no longer separated. He then tells Fiora that it's about time to start looking for the others, which the two of them get moving.

    4) I Will Protect You
Shulk and Fiora make their way inward to begin searching the Mechonis' island hand for their companions only for Fiora to feel that something about her is off, and calls out to Shulk in worry. Shulk asks what's wrong, which she apologizes for making him worry believing that she might just be in need of some rest due to her current body feeling strange. Shulk suggests for them to take a break as they take shelter along a nearby wall. As Fiora tries to get some sleep, Shulk remains on watch duty, and is left wondering to himself what happened to the others after the destruction of Galahad Fortress. Shulk then tries to test out using the Monado only for it to act out-of-sorts, which Shulk notes that the Monado's light is fluctuating. He concludes that whatever Egil's gold Face-Mechon did really messed it up.

Shulk reassures himself that he must protect Fiora despite the Monado not working properly as Fiora wakes up asking why he's not trying to sleep. He apologizes asking if his actions woke her up, but Fiora answers no, and that she slept really well. Shulk asks if she's hungry only for Fiora to reply that she would rather have water, which Shulk provides a cup from his water container. As Fiora drinks, Shulk suggests for her to eat even if she's not hungry; warning her that she needs to get her strength back. However, Fiora assures Shulk that she's fine. That due to her current body now being part Mechon, she never has to eat. Thus, she never gets hungry anymore. Stating that she only need water while handing him the cup back, she makes it clear to Shulk that he has nothing to worry about. Fiora explains that while she would prefer her old body, she admits that her current Mechon one has its advantages.

Feeling that she's slowing Shulk down, Fiora states to Shulk that she's okay with him leaving her here, which shocks Shulk. She reminds Shulk of her new Mechon body, and that it makes sense for her to just now stay on the Mechonis, but Shulk's having none of it telling Fiora that she dosn't have to do that. She keeps pushing by telling Shulk that the old Fiora he knew is dead, and that it would be for the best if he just thought of it like that. However, Shulk quickly refuses given that the Fiora he knows is right in front of him. Shulks tells her of how it's impossible for him to forget the feeling of losing her back at Colony 9. That it made him think that he should of done something, and wished that he had the power to save her. Shulk makes it clear that he will have no more regrets from here on out, and will protect her, which finally gets Fiora to crack a smile. He also reminds Fiora of how there's someone else in her head, and that they can't leave her either.

Fiora accepts Shulk's words, but it's at this point that several Mechon arrive at their location aiming to kill him. Wielding the unresponsive Monado, Shulk stands before the Mechon ready to fight. Fiora tries to join in only for her to fall back over, much to Shulk's worry as he orders the Monado to not let him down. Shulk thinks back to Alvis' words of how the Monado bends to his well, which he announces to the Mechon that he won't let them take Fiora. That this time, he will protect Fiora. As if answering Shulk's will, the light of the Monado's blade finally takes shape again, which Shulk is now confident that he can do this, and battles it out with the Mechon.

    5) Reyn and Sharla
Shulk manages to dispose of the Mechon, but unlike previous battles, he's left immensely exhausted. Shulk catches on that he's feeling worse than before, which he theorizes that it's connected to what Egil's gold Face-Mechon did to the Monado. Shulk then looks to Fiora seeing that she's back to trying to rest. However, the danger's not over yet as two new odd-looking Mechon glowing red and blue respectively arrive and surround Shulk.

Some time beforehand, Reyn and Sharla are seen having washed ashore together somewhere on the Mechonis' island hand's coast after falling from Galahad Fortress. Sharla is seen already awake as Reyn wakes up, and wonders where they currently are. Relieved to see Sharla, Reyn asks her what happened, but Sharla answers that she also doesn't know as she only woke up just moments before Reyn. He then asks where the others are, which Sharla informs him that she looked around, but couldn't find anyone. Sharla then provides Reyn her thanks for going so far as to protect her during the battle at Galahad Fortress, which Reyn is just glad that she got out safe. However, Reyn remains disheartened, and scolds himself for being so useless and stupid to the point that he couldn't even keep a promise. The promise to Fiora that he would look after Shulk.

Sharla remains confused hearing that Reyn seems to have made a promise to protect someone that's been protecting him. In return, Reyn explains how Shulk used to be kind of frail back in the old days to a point that he would even get bossed around by the animals around Colony 9. That it was Reyn who protected him during those days, which led to him promising Fiora that the will look after Shulk. However, Reyn points out that things are now different where he's now the useless one while Shulk's become stronger, even without the Monado. Reyn remains convinced that Shulk no longer needs him despite the former doing all he can to help, but Sharla rejects such a statement claiming that that's not the Reyn she came to know.

Reminding Reyn of Colony 6, Sharla explains how the Mechon were always at the very doorstep of her home due to their desire to claim the ether from the mine underneath it. Reyn goes along with the story admitting that the Mechon getting their hands on the stockpile of ether in the Colony 6 mine would have the enemy to get anywhere on Bionis. Sharla continues on that the Colony 6 defensive force suffered both physically and mentally throughout the Mechon attacks. That it became normal for them to have friends and family alive one day and gone the next. As Reyn continues to listen, Sharla questions how one can possibly make a difference when war is so futile, and that she wasn't the only one at Colony 6 that felt this way. She then tells Reyn that nobody at Colony 6 ever gave up, and asks if he knows why.

Reyn answers if it's because the people of Colony 6 are strong, which Sharla replies that they had to be strong. That everyone had someone to protect, but the moment a person looks away, that person loses everyone they loved. As a result, Sharla states that everyone at Colony 6 had to keep looking straight ahead, and not stop fighting. After hearing Sharla's story, Reyn admits that compared to his problems, the people of Colony 6 had it tough. Thus, he regains a bit of confidence claiming that it would be best for him to just go back to being Reyn. Given that the point of her story is that Colony 6 never gave up, Sharla reassures Reyn to not go doubting himself when things get tough. In return, Reyn agrees with it, and that there's still plenty of time remaining before he's old and crooked.

Now that Reyn's been convinced to stop doubting himself, Sharla asks what they're supposed to do now. In return, Reyn figures that their first course of action is to find Shulk and Fiora. That even though he's their third wheel, he can still do all the heavy stuff for them. Sharla gets excited hearing that Reyn appears to be back to his old self, which Reyn questions her if part of her story was her referring to the one she was close to, Gadolt. In return, Sharla states that Gadolt was just one of the many at Colony 6 that she was talking about, and asks why Reyn brought it up, which Reyn answers that Gadolt just seems like tough competition for someone like him. Sharla finds Reyn's words adorable as the two of them head off to try to find Shulk and Fiora. While walking, Sharla questions if Shulk and Fiora ended up okay falling off Galahad Fortress, which Reyn assures her that those two wouldn't die from something like that. Sharla remains relieved seeing Reyn acting more as his old self as they continue on.

    6) Finding Shulk
Reyn and Sharla continue inward on the Mechonis' hand island, which they hear someone fighting in the distance. Upon investigating, they come across Shulk the moment that he got surrounded by the two odd-looking Mechon. Reuniting with Shulk, Reyn assures the former that they will turn the Mechon into scrap as the two of them and Sharla go on to defeat the two Mechon.

    7) Profound Joy
Following the battle, Reyn's glad to see that Shulk also made it, which Shulk states his appreciation at their timely arrival. Fiora then calls out to Reyn happy to see him again, much to Reyn's happiness seeing a Fiora that remembers them. Shulk goes along with the happy reunion stating that Fiora's been through a lot. As Fiora walks toward them, Reyn notices her Mechon body, which he comes to understand what Shulk means by "being through a lot." However, he smiles anyway still happy that Fiora's back.

Shulk, Fiora, Reyn, and Sharla all sit down together using the reunion as a moment to take a short break. Shulk figures that the reunion will be complete if they just find Dunban, which Reyn agrees that he'll be blubbering at the sight of them. However, Fiora finds such a thought funny as she doesn't believe that Dunban is someone that would cry in front of Shulk and Reyn. The two boys take this as a sign that Dunban actually has been seen crying, which Fiora answers that this has always been the case for Dunban. That her brother is actually a big softy, and that he cries only when he's alone as Dunban hates when anyone sees him in such a state. In return, Shulk states that he never knew this about Dunban, but Reyn refuses to believe it.

Fiora is the first to get back up, which Sharla being the medic warns her to take it easy. However, Fiora tries to assure them that she's okay, and that she desires to see her brother again. Fiora asks everyone to get moving, and they all get up ready to move on. Reyn offers to carry Fiora if she's feeling tired, which given her new Mechon body, Fiora warns him that she's a lot heavier than she used to be. However, Reyn flexes and states that he could do it as he's been pumping his guns. Looking at Reyn smiling at her confidently, Fiora agrees that he doesn't seem to be kidding. She then thanks Reyn for looking after Shulk for her, but Reyn admits that while he wanted to keep the promise, it's felt more like Shulk's been the one protecting him. Shulk rejects such a statement claiming that it's not true. However, Reyn's okay with it claiming that they both already know this is the case. That Shulk doesn't need Reyn protecting him anymore.

Sharla then reminds Reyn that the latter actually is here for something, which Reyn agrees with. That the reason he's here is because of what he did just now helping out Shulk and company. Reyn points out that no matter how strong one gets, there will always be the flaw of not having eyes in the back of your head. Thus, Reyn admits that his role is to have Shulk's back. Shulk's unable to believe what he's hearing, which Fiora is the one to say it that Reyn's sounding like a whole new person.

Reyn remains confused by what she means by that, which Fiora explains how good it is to see that Reyn seems to have become more dependable than he used to be. Reyn asks if this really meant that he was that un-dependable, but Fiora wants to hear none of it, and orders him to take what she said as a compliment. Said order leaves Reyn to admit that Fiora hasn't changed one bit, and questions what they would ever do without her keeping track of them. Fiora laughs it off asking if it's about time to see their brother cry, which Reyn agrees with hyped to see such a sight.

    8) Dunban and Riki
Shulk, Fiora, Reyn, and Sharla continue their search around the island to locate the remainder of their companions. However, they stop Fiora starts hearing something in the distance. The rest of the group remains confused as they're not able to hear anything, which Shulk theorizes that their hearing probably isn't strong enough compared to hers given Fiora's partial Mechon body. Fiora pays closer attention to the low sounds she's hearing, and that it sounds like they're coming from more than one object. She then warns the group that whatever she's hearing is here now as the group remains on-guard towards two mysterious beings walking towards them.

Just like the Shulk/Fiora and Reyn/Sharla groups at other locations of the Mechonis' island hand's coast, Dunban, Melia, and Riki are seen having washed ashore together after falling from Galahad Fortress. Before the three continue inward, Riki desires to stop for the time being due to being hungry and needing rest. Not wanting Riki in bad shape, Dunban suggests that they take a break before deciding to go any further. He also asks if Melia also needs to rest, but she answers that she's fine. Thus, the three of them take a break along the coast. As Melia rests despite her previous claim of not being tired, Riki manages to catch them a big fish to eat given his hunger. Dunban calls out Riki due to the Nopon being able to move despite his claim that he needed rest, which Riki explains that while he's tired, he's also hungry. Thus, Dunban finds it considerate that Riki's fighting through his tiredness in order to eat. However, Dunban also catches on that Riki's actions are for another reason.

Riki tries to hide his other plan, but Dunban calls it out that he knows that Riki is putting on an act due to noticing that Melia was slowing down compared to them. That because Melia's the type of person who would never admit to being tired, Riki acted as the tired one in order to make her get some rest. While Melia continues to sleep, Riki says nothing as he and Dunban eat the cooked fish at the campfire they set up. Dunban praises how tasty the cooked fish is despite them having arrived at a strange place, which Riki being the cook is glad to hear it. Riki then points out how he noticed how unhappy Dunban's been looking. In return, Dunban's just surprised at how obvious he's making it. Riki states his desire to hear Dunban's story given that he's the Heropon, which despite Dunban not understanding why being Heropon has anything to do with it, he gladly accepts to tell his story, much to Riki's excitement.

Staring the story Dunban explains of how he has a sister named Fiora. In return, Riki points out that he knows its the girl of silver Mechon armor, and that Shulk's been looking everywhere for her. Dunban states that to be the case, and that Shulk and Fiora liking each other is obvious to everyone, but given that they're not actually together yet, Dunban figures that the two of them just haven't reached the point where they're ready. Dunban continues on stating his belief and worry that Shulk and Fiora come off as a perfect match, yet anything could happen the longer they don't tell each other about how they feel towards one another. Riki admits that even he can tell there's something between Shulk and Fiora, which Dunban isn't surprised stating his belief that everyone out there probably sees the Shulk and Fiora connection. However, Dunban remains worried given that Fiora's become something else. Riki points out knowing what Dunban means by that given that Fiora seems to have forgotten about Shulk and Dunban. In return, Dunban admits that to be the case, but knows that Shulk is someone that won't give up even if Fiora's forgotten about them.

Dunban states that it fills him with hope knowing that Shulk's out there looking for Fiora, but he becomes disappointed that he's not currently with him to help out. However, Riki reassures Dunban being the guy that watches over them, which catches Dunban's attention. Riki explains it further that Dunban is someone that watches over Shulk and Fiora as if he's their "daddypon." Though Riki shocks himself upon realizing that Dunban's not actually Shulk and Fiora's father. However, Dunban does admit that he's in the older brother role. Riki adding that it's not much different than being a daddypon that watches over the family. Thus, Riki states that Dunban's just doing what must be done, which leaves an impact on Dunban having to admit how surprising it is that he's getting helpful advice from Riki of all people. In return, Riki reminds Dunban of how the former's got his own big family of littlepon that he must take care of. That Riki knows some things when it comes to family being someone who has to raise and say goodbye to littlepons. In return, Dunban accepts Riki's words while admitting that he had Riki's character down all wrong up to this point.

Riki and Dunban return to resting until the next morning, which Melia heads off to scout around. Once Melia returns to camp, she informs Dunban and Riki that their companions don't seem to be around their current location. Dunban hopes that everyone's safe while Riki assures them that their companions must be safe since everyone's strong. Agreeing with Riki, Melia figures that it's only a matter of time before they come across the others. Dunban thinks it over explaining how the others must have fallen from Galahad Fortress down to the same area. Thus, they should be out there somewhere around their location.

Riki then calls for Dunban and Melia's attention to a giant pipe that goes along the coast away from their current location. That the pipe entrance was something that Riki discovered when he was out scouting. Looking down the pipe entrance, Dunban questions where it leads, which Riki states his belief that Shulk and company are somewhere on the other side. Given his growing trust in Riki, Dunban agrees to follow the instinct of a Nopon by giving exploring the pipe entrance a try. Melia states her agreement as the three of them enter the pipeline.

    9) Hidden Machina Village
Dunban, Riki, and Melia eventually come out of the pipe at some sort of Mechon-like village, which Dunban finds surprising that they've actually found one in such an unknown location. Giving them even more surprise, they see Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla in the village running up towards them. Everyone's all excited and relieved that they're all reunited and uninjured. Shulk then points out to them that they also found Fiora, who's the last to catch up and stand before Dunban, Melia and Riki. Given that he's her brother, Dunban's the one to approach her out of worry. Hearing Fiora call Dunban by his name, Dunban asks if this means that she remembers him. She answers yes while also apologizing for making him worry, but Dunban just states that he's glad that she's alive. The two of them then hug it out as family.

As Shulk and company watch the reunion between brother and sister, Melia asks Shulk if the new girl is his childhood friend, which he admits is the case. Despite showing a hint of jealousy, Melia offers Shulk her congratulations, and that she's glad that Fiora's safe, which Shulk thanks her for claiming that he couldn't have done it without Melia's help. Following the reunion, Dunban questions Shulk and company how they all ended up at the same unknown village as them, and questions if they even know what the village is. Suddenly, they're met by a group of beings that look like humanoid Mechon, which Dunban remains on-guard given the war against them. However, Shulk explains that these specific Mechon are the ones who helped them, and that this village is their home, much to Dunban's surprise.

Showing that they mean no harm, one of the humanoid Mechon that looks female steps before them stating that their confusion is understandable. She introduces herself and her Mechon-like village residents to Shulk's group as the Machina; the true people of Mechonis. Shulk speaks for everyone asking if Machina refers to machine people, which the Machina woman, Linada, can tell that Shulk and company have many questions to ask them. However, Linada advises Shulk's group to look around their Hidden Machina Village first, and that she'll answer their questions later at a building within the village called Junks.

    10) Fiora's New Body
After exploring around, Shulk's group eventually meet up with Linada at Junks, which Dunban's the one to ask her if she's one of the Mechon. Linada answers that it's both yes and no. That the Mechon Shulk and company have been fighting are weapons that were created by the Machina civilization. The latter of which were the true beings born from the Mechonis. Overall, Linada assures Shulk's group that their belief up to this point that Machina are Mechon are one in the same is correct. Melia catches on that Machina are mechanical lifeforms born from the Mechonis. In return, Linada points out that it's no different than how all organic life is born from the Bionis.

The thought of life being born on Mechonis just like the Bionis surprises Shulk. Before he could investigate further however, Dunban interrupts wanting to know why the people of Mechonis are using the Mechon to invade Bionis, and what they did to deserve being invaded. In return, Linada asks for Dunban to remain understanding for the time being as there's still much that needs to be told. Fiora then steps in asking her brother to hear Linada out. Dunban remains unconvinced, but Fiora tries to tell him that the Machina are good people. She then holds her Mechon body, which Shulk notices that somethings wrong. Linada takes a closer look at Fiora noticing that the girl's Mechon body appears to not be fully functional, which Shulk explains to Linada of how Fiora hasn't been feeling good ever since she was given said body, and that they've been lost as to what to do about it.

Hearing that Fiora was provided a Mechon body surprises Linada having realized that Fiora is not actually a Machina. Linada asks why Fiora didn't tell this about her sooner, which Fiora tries to deny anything wrong telling everyone that she's okay. However, Linada knows full well that Fiora's speaking nonsense given that the former's a doctor, and is someone who specializes in working on people in similar situations to Fiora's. Linada inspects Fiora's Mechon body, which she confirms what she was guessing that Fiora was turned into a Face-unit. As a result, the Machina doctor warns Fiora that her Mechon body is experiencing functional breakdown in multiple locations.

Linada informs Shulk and company that she will take Fiora to her lab for repair, and that the village chief that lives within the Junks structure can answer their remaining questions. Linada then assures everyone that they will speak later as she makes her way back to her lab. Before following after Linada, Fiora remains confused not knowing what to say to the worried Shulk. Sharla steps in to reassure Shulk that she will be the one to watch over Fiora, which Shulk thanks her for. Fiora and Sharla then depart to catch up with Linada as the rest of Shulk's group head into Junks to meet with the Machina village chief.

    11) Miqol's Request
Within Junks, Shulk's group comes across the Machina village chief named Miqol sitting in his large chair, which surprises Reyn as to how big said chief is. In return, Miqol just laughs since he gets a kick out of how surprised people are when they see his large self, much to everyone's bewilderment. Dunban speaks first mentioning that he was told that the village chief was waiting to meet with them all. Miqol answers that to be the case, and that he's actually been waiting a long time for those to accept his request.

Before he gets to said request though, he asks if the weapon Shulk's holding is truly the Monado, which Shulk answers that it is. He also asks if the destruction of Galahad Fortress was the doing of Shulk's group, which Dunban answers it was despite their failure to stop Egil. The mention of Egil catches Miqol's attention. Dunban asks if the chief knows him while explaining that Egil called himself the leader of the Mechonis, which Miqol explains that Egil is not only a fellow Machina, but that Egil also happens to be his son. The revelation surprises Dunban and company. Miqol mentions that the request he mentioned is actually regarding his son, which is that he wants Shulk and company to kill Egil.
