Recap / WITCH Animated S 2 E 13

Go To

Shagon returns to Heatherfield as his old self, Matt, and keeps W.I.T.C.H. distracted while Nerissa summons Cassidy's ghost to the mortal plane in order to corrupt her into joining her. Will stops being angry about her mother and teacher's relationship.

The episode contains the following tropes:

  • Cast from Hit Points: Cassidy notes that Nerissa has terribly aged in forty years and guesses the latter has been using her own life force to use her magic.
Cassidy: Draining our life force for power, are we?
  • Deadpan Snarker: Much like her successor Irma, Cassidy is very sarcastic, and throws lighthearted jabs at Nerissa. Justified because she was at most a young adult when she died.
  • Fatal Flaw: Nerissa identifies compassion as Cassidy's fatal flaw. She first shows some regrets about being dead when she's shown sick children whom she cannot help as a ghost. Though she pulls herself together, seeing her old and blind mother missing her finally causes her to change her mind about refusing to return to the living, allowing Nerissa to enthrall her.
Nerissa: Compassion is a powerful thing, especially when it fuels desire. The desire for something you cannot, should not have, is the chink in the armor of your soul and all I need to make you mine! You will live again very soon… once your service to me is complete.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: Cassidy states that she doesn't hold a grudge against Nerissa for killing her, but she doesn't trust her former friend's intentions and refuses to fall for her attempts at manipulation.
  • Friend to All Children: Nerissa mentions that Cassidy dreamed of becoming a pediatrician when she brings her to see children at a hospital in an effort to give her motivation to live again. Being unable to so much as comfort the sick children does get Cassidy to regret not being alive before she pulls herself together.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: Cassidy is a Friendly Ghost who seems to have easily forgiven Nerissa for killing her, and as Nerissa states in the children's hospital, she wanted to become a pediatrician because she has so much compassion for all living things. However, she knows Nerissa well enough to know her former friend didn't summon her to the mortal realm out of the goodness of her heart and resists Nerissa's offers to resurrect her in exchange for her soul for a good while.
  • Necromancer: Nerissa uses the Heart of Meridian to amplify her Quintessence powers and summons Cassidy's ghost to the mortal realm. She also states that she intends to eventually bring Cassidy Back from the Dead for real.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Emily, Cassidy's mother, outlived her daughter. It's seeing her blind mother's pain that finally convinces Cassidy to "sell her soul" to Nerissa in return for her resurrection.
  • The Runaway: Matt/Shagon sent a letter to Matt's parents saying he'd gone to Hollywood to try to make it as a guitarist.
  • The Unapologetic: Downplayed. While earlier episodes showed Nerissa to have her regrets about killing Cassidy in a fit of rage, she apologizes in a way that doesn't really sell it.
Nerissa: I apologize for any role I might have played in… your accident.
Cassidy: "Might" have played? That's like me saying "I might have missed curfew on prom night."
