Matt and Huggles are kidnapped by Nerissa and enslaved to become her minions.
The episode contains the following tropes:
- Elemental Embodiment: After corrupting and transforming Matt and Huggles, as Nerissa put it "desperate times call for desperate minions". So rather than corrupting people, Nerissa uses quintessence to animate a pool of lava and a chunk of ice into sentient beings, Ember and Tridart.
- Emotion Eater: Each of the Knights feeds on a specific negative emotion. Shagon on hatred and malice, Kor on rage and anger, Tridart on fear and desperation and Ember on misery and pain.
- The Magnificent: Each of the Knights of Destruction has an epithet. Shagon, Kor, Tridart and Ember are each dubbed the Hate, the Destroyer, the Despair and the Pain.
- Only Sane Man: Cornelia is the only one of the five not basking in the emotion each of the Knights feeds on. As she puts it, she's the only one "not starring in a soap opera" to which the others reply "this week".
- What the Hell, Hero?: When Martin sings a love song to Irma over the school radio, a mortified Irma storms into the station and delivers a truly mean and cruel speech to Martin...that the whole school hears.Irma: Get this into your head, Martin! I am not in love with you! I-I'm not even in like with you! I've tried to tell you a million times but you won't take the hint. You are a pest! You are a toad! You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny. You are the bane of my existence. Martin Tubbs, you are a loser!
