Recap / The Unexpectables E 168

Go To

"My friends, warriors of blazing passion, of stout resolution, of flowing minds, and of graceful demeanor. The day is won, not by myself or the comrades that I call family, but the coming together of all of us to put down a threat that would destroy our very way of life. Though you are all of different planes, of different people, and of different ideals, you have shown all of creation the power you possess when united under a single goal: the salvation of your home, a united beauty that my comrades and I see every day in our home. For in the material plane, the tallest mountains, sturdy and unshakeable, share the same clear blue sky as the winds dance around their peaks. In the deepest parts of the greatest seas, molten fire bursts from vents which provide heat and light for the creatures that call it home. Though the laws of nature keep you separate, never forget how strong you are together. Never forget that in another place, another realm, everything that each of you are comes together in a perfect harmony that brings forth abundance, life, and balance. Let this day be remembered in antiquity for all times, the day where we put aside our prejudice and preconceived notions and come together as one elemental force to save all of existence. Let this day be told to our children, and our children's children, throughout the generations, that it was not the superiority of one element that banished the horrid Oni, but the unitification of all. Let this be a day of a start of a new era, of a new coalition, so that when our cousins cry for aid, their voices will not go silent in the night! That we may rise up and fight, knowing that we are not enemies, we are family, and there is no force on this or any other plane that will divide the elements united!"
Greckles' Rousing Speech

Original Airdate (Twitch): June 2, 2021:

The Elemental Planes have all been freed, thanks to the Unexpectables. It is time to part ways with Seika, and return to Alivast in order to deal with the next catastrophe...but first, one final celebration, and some catching up with old friends.

The denouement/final episode of the Elemental Oni arc.

"I've been wanting to say that for a long time."

  • Fantastic Nature Reserve: Task expresses interest in starting one of these, having already collected a flying monkey, eels, and other creatures during their trip through the Planes. Seika offers to find him a chinchilla from the Fire Plane to add to it, in exchange for the iron beast he enjoyed riding in Alivast.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Remy expresses some frustration regarding Greckles' recently-gained ability to fly by tapping into Kai's power, but not enough to cause any issues.
  • Hero of Another Story: Among the mail the Unexpectables reads through when they return to Alivast is a record of another adventuring party, who explored the caverns beneath the town and had to deal with a fire giant general that was trapped down there during the war.
  • Named Weapons: The Warlord's Skewer, the blade held by Emperor Inferno and Ryusei, and considered the symbol of leadership of the Fire Plane.
  • Not So Omniscient After All: Speaking to Greckles in a dream, Kai is scared to admit that their power of foresight has weakened concerning events past the present, and is worried that they'll just play a bit part in whatever comes next.
  • Offered the Crown: Ryusei decides that it's time to return to a Fire Genasi ruling the Fire Plane, and offers the position of leadership to Seika. He accepts.
  • Put on a Bus: After being with the Unexpectables for the entire arc (lasting seven real-world months and one in-world month), "newfound friend" Seika must leave the party to rule the Fire Plane.
  • Rousing Speech: Greckles gives one at the party celebrating the liberation of all the Planes, quoted above.
  • The Talk: Log immediately asks the Unexpectables how to make a baby when they reunite, since two constructs in their congregation want to start a family. Panic is bluntly honest about how it regularly happens, while Task suggests they should have the Silver Kobolds help "build" them a baby.
