Dad's Stache Stash

Original air date: 5/1/2023

Patrick wants a mustache, so Cecil introduces him to the Star family stache stash. After trying on all the mustaches, Patrick decides to wear a forbidden one, turning him into an old-timey villain.

Dad's Stache Stash contains examples of:

  • Costume-Test Montage: Patrick tries on every mustache in the stash in quick succession.
Patrick: This 'stache! That 'stache! These, those, and dad 'stache! Bad 'stache! Moose 'stache! Big 'stache! Small 'stache! All 'stache!
  • Dastardly Whiplash: Patrick wears an old-timey mustache that turns him into a classic villain. He promptly ties his family to railroad tracks, acting hammy and giving out evil cackles throughout.
  • Exorcist Head: When Patrick looks around the stache stash, his head turns 360 degrees, complete with the sounds of bones cracking.
  • Fun with Homophones: The stache stash, which is a giant grand hall housing mustaches throughout the Star family.
  • Halfway Plot Switch: The first half of the episode is about Patrick trying on mustache's in Cecil's stache stash. The second half involves him being turned into a supervillain by the mustache and attacking his family, leading Cecil to stop him.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • The rest of the Star family are more bored than scared of Patrick's villainy, simple due to how overused they see it as.
Squidina: Really? Tying people to railroad tracks? Hasn't this been done before?
    • Cecil gets into a conversation about why he can't just take everyone off the tracks before stopping the train.
Cecil: My family and friends, don't worry! I'm going to stop that train before it gets here!
Squidina: That's great, Dad, but maybe you could pull us off the tracks first? You know, just in case?
Cecil: I would, but that would strip this story of any sense of suspense or danger.
      Bunny: Honey, seriously?
Cecil: Look, I understand your concern, but I need you all on the tracks for motivation.
Rube: Why would anyone wanna stop a train?
      Cecil: (laughs) Rube gets it.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: After Patrick wears a "Mr. Miami" mustache, he's seen leaning against a live-action luxury car.
  • Pun:
    • One of the mustaches that Patrick wears is a "moose-stache", as in it comes from a mounted moose head.
    • Patrick uses a handlebar mustache as real handlebars to drive an invisible motorcycle.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Starfish Language: Patrick asks how to pronounce a plaque that's written in an incomprehensible language. Cecil simply answers, "Cousin Fred!"
  • Traintop Battle: Patrick and Cecil fight each other on top of a runaway train, with Patrick (who has been turned evil) wanting it to run over his family and audience, and Cecil trying to stop it.
  • Trivial Title: The stache stash is only in the first four minutes of the episode, and quickly disappears without even a mention once the plot shifts to Patrick being a Dastardly Whiplash villain.

A Root Galoot

Original air date: 5/2/2023

A gardening segment on the show leads the family to meet Shmandrake, a root creature who promises a wish to whoever treats it best. However, it turns out that Shmandrake is simply lying and freeloading on the family.

A Root Galoot contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Patrick invites Shmandrake into a tanning bed, since he doesn't get sunlight when underground. However, they all fall asleep out of tiredness from waiting on him hand and foot. When they awaken, Shmandrake has been cooked alive.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: The Stars are initially sad at cooking Shmandrake to death, but then they smell how good his body is. They promptly devour him whole, since Shmandrake was such a Jerkass to them that it's a relief to have him gone.
Cecil: Mmm, kind of nice having him feed us for a change, ha ha.
  • Asshole Victim: Shmandrake.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After Patrick digs up a genie lamp, Squidina groans, "I wish this cartoon was over already!"
  • Call-Back: Cecil swats Patrick with a flyswatter and says "Foinsapp!" This is a reference to "Klopnodian Heritage Festival", where "foinsapp" is the tradition of swatting flies.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: When Shmandrake sees Patrick on TV, the music playing in the background is the Patrick Show's end credits theme.
  • Hate Sink: While Shmandrake promises to give a wish to whoever he likes best if the family houses and feeds him, he quickly turns into a Fat Slob who runs the family ragged and forces them to do everything for him. When Patrick accidentally kills Shmandrake, the family eat his corpse and don't miss him one bit.
  • Hypocrite: Right after leaving the house out of anger, Shmandrake cries in disbelief of how the family was so selfish in eating most of him, despite the fact that he tricked the four of them into pampering him in the first place under the pretense that he would grant a wish to his favorite of the family.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Squidina explains to Patrick that Shmandrake isn't actually going to offer wishes to anyone. He's just tricking them so they'll wait on him hand and foot. Patrick misunderstands the phrase and thinks that he needs to be even more intense with pampering Shmandrake so he can get the wish.
Patrick: You think if I wait on his shoulders, spine, and back too, he might grant my wish!?
  • Minimalist Cast: The only characters in this episode are the Stars and Shmandrake, and the entire episode takes place in and around the Star house.
  • Reset Button: Squidina wishes that none of the family ever found Shmandrake, so they won't be competing over who gets a wish. In the new timeline, rather than digging up Shmandrake, Patrick finds a genie lamp. Squidina is exasperated because she can tell everything will happen all over again.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Most of Shmandrake's initial explanation is spoken in rhyme. He drops this as he grows fatter and meaner.
  • Rhyming Title: A Root Galoot.
  • Quest for a Wish: The family meet a Shmandrake root that promises a wish to whoever in the family it likes best, leading them all to try to get on Shmandrake's good side. We see the characters' individual wishes: Bunny wants to be a superhero with super cleaning powers, Cecil wants to be a Supreme Chef, GrandPat wants nothing more than for the world to be wiped out (with him safely watching from a distance), and Patrick can't even think of what he wants his wish to be. In the end, Shmandrake turns out to be a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing but wasn't planning on giving his wish to anyone. Once Squidina catches him in the act, she uses an Implied Death Threat to get him to grant her wish: that they never found him in the first place.
