Just in Time for Christmas

Original air date: 12/3/2021

Christmas is approaching, and Patrick still hasn't bought any gifts for his family. With the help of his time-traveling closet, he gets presents from all across time.

Just in Time for Christmas contains examples of:

  • Christmas Episode: The Star family are celebrating Christmas, when Patrick realizes he's forgotten to get any gifts. Patrick uses his time-traveling closet to get gifts: a laser from the future as a shaver for Cecil, a prehistoric meal for GrandPat, a new tattoo for Bunny, and a cute pet monkey for Squidina.
  • Convenience Store Gift Shopping: Exaggerated with the last-minute "gifts" Patrick gave his family for Christmas last year: chewed-up candles and petrified underwear pulled directly out of his trash can.
Patrick: You're right, Ouchie. I gave everyone the same garbage last year.
  • Double-Meaning Title: It's a Christmas Episode revolving around Patrick rushing to get presents for his family at the last moment... doing so by using a time machine to visit various time periods.
  • Idea Bulb: Parodied. When Patrick gets the idea to use the time closet to find gifts, burning Yule logs appear above his head.
  • Floating Advice Reminder: Patrick tries to remember what Bunny always used to say to figure out what to get her for Christmas. He has a badly drawn thought bubble of her saying "There's no place more fun than a carnival!", which helps him out. Then Bunny leans out of the thought bubble and kisses him.
  • Group Picture Ending: The episode ends with all the people Patrick's stolen from across time — including a space captain, a man covered in tattoos, and a pterodactyl — taking a Christmas photo together.
  • Repeating So the Audience Can Hear: Ouchie only speaks in dog barks; however, we can still tell what he's saying because Patrick repeats it in English.
    Ouchie: (angry barking)
Patrick: What's that, boy? You say you stopped me because I'm about to give my family garbage for Christmas?
  • Running Gag: Patrick wears a Santa hat with mistletoe on the end of it. Throughout the episode, people repeatedly try to kiss him because of it.
  • Stylistic Suck: When Patrick remembers something Bunny said that gives him a clue for a gift, we see a poorly-drawn version of her in a thought bubble, abruptly flapping her mouth open with two frames of animation.

Klopnodian Heritage Festival

Original air date: 3/11/2022

The Star family attend a culture festival to commemorate Bunny's Klopnodian heritage. The traditions are divided by gender: Patrick and Cecil practice sweating and grabbing things from high shelves, while Squidina and Bunny learn about swatting flies and raising the flag. GrandPat, however, still resents the Klopnodians after a failed attempt to conquer them.

Klopnodian Heritage Festival contains examples of:

  • Aside Comment: At the end of the day, Squidina is seen walking with a fly on a leash. She looks at the audience and says that she'd rather walk them than swat them.
  • Everyone Laughs Ending: The episode ends with everyone laughing about Cecil saying that he'll have to introduce Patrick to underarm corks, since he can't stop sweating from his armpits.
  • Fictional Flag: The "flag" of Klopnod is a tablecloth with a mustard stain on it. Squidina points this out, but pretends it's a flag to go along with the traditions she has to do.
  • Fictional Holiday: The annual Klopnodian Heritage Festival is held to celebrate those coming from Klopnod, a fictional location that's said to be the silliest place in the ocean. It involves practicing their ancient traditions and eating their (disgusting) food.
  • Final Exam Finale: For the episode overall. At the finale of the festival, Patrick and Squidina are expected to perform all of the previous traditions they've learned, live on stage and with a huge audience watching. Notably, while the other traditions have made-up nonsense names, this one is just called "The Whole Shebang". Patrick and Squidina screw it up out of confusion and impulse decisions, but redeem themselves at the end when Cecil implores the audience to look away from Patrick, giving him the confidence to finally accomplish his last task.
  • Foreign Queasine: Classic Klopnodian foods include pies made of mud, 100-year old bread, and rock soup. Not even Patrick enjoys it.
  • Funny Background Event: During the initial pan of the festival, you can see a starfish throwing a balloon at a wall of darts as part of a carnival game.
  • Fun T-Shirt: Cecil wears a "Kiss Me, I'm Klopnodian" shirt even though he isn't actually from Klopnod. This does result in a group of women kissing him, which he complains about because he's married. He takes the shirt off and throws it on the ground, and the people start kissing it instead.
  • Gender-Separated Ensemble Episode: Patrick and Cecil practice the male Klopnodian traditions with a group of elder men, while Bunny and Squidina take on the female Klopnodian traditions with some elder women.
  • Namesake Gag: GrandPat's failed attempt to conquer Klopnod was apparently so bad that they named a cream puff after him ("cream puff" being slang for a weak person). We then see a street vendor selling GrandPat Cream Puffs, with a noticeably cheap price and the slogan "The Flavor of Failure".
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Bunny is the only member of the Star family to enjoy the festival, since she's been attending them since she was a kid and thus is actually experienced with the traditions. GrandPat holds a grudge against the Klopnod people and ends up getting a cream puff thrown in his face, while Cecil, Patrick, and Squidina are forced to take part in dangerous and humiliating activities.
  • Only Sane Woman: Squidina is the only one who doesn't like the Klopnodian flag; a stained tablecloth that has to be raised while it's already balled-up. During her big show at the end, rather than raising it, she drapes the "flag" over a table and puts some flowers and dishes on it.
    Squidina: (exasperated) It's a tablecloth!
  • Russian Reversal: Bunny is shown to be an expert at fly-swatting. Afterwards, Squidina tries to attack a single fly. It grabs the swatter instead and hits her multiple times.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Some Klopnodian woman teach Squidina about raising the flag; she points out that it's not a flag, but a tablecloth with a mustard stain on it. The women deny this.
Squidina: ...Alright, alright! It's a flag!
  • Written by the Winners: Discussed. GrandPat says that he and his powerful army conquered Klopnod in half a day. Squidina, reading from a brochure, points out that he actually lost and had a cream puff named after him.

Squdina Can't Foinsapp

Squidina attempts the Klopnodian activity of fly swatting (known as "Foinsapp") and repeatedly fails to swat a single fly. Then she makes the mistake of throwing her flyswatter in frustration...

How well does it match the trope?
