The Patrick Show Sells Out

Original air date: 4/26/2023

To reinvigorate his restaurant, Krabs gets an advertising spot on the Patrick Show. Not wanting to be upstaged, Plankton fights back with his own advertisements, leading to an escalating war between the two sponsors. How can Patrick and Squidina get them to stop interrupting the show?

The Patrick Show Sells Out contains examples of:

  • Actually Quite Catchy: Plankton sings a song with Patrick about his restaurant. A cut backstage shows Squidina dancing and clapping along to it. Mr. Krabs gives her a Death Glare, and she stops.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Pat the Hapless's reaction to the smell of chum is "Me used to eating dead things, but that stinks!"
  • Hourglass Plot: Mr. Krabs and Plankton sponsor Patrick's show to advertise their restaurants. However, while customers do want to go to the restaurants, their owners are so busy on the show that they can't actually run their businesses. Squidina comes up with a solution: give the entire show to Krabs and Plankton, then advertise her and Patrick's own brand new restaurant on it.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Plankton calls out Mr. Krabs for his gaudy, product placement-filled cartoon. Then he pulls out his own, which he likes because it advertises his restaurant.
  • Lethal Eatery: Patrick's final restaurant only serves one food: rocks with jelly put on them. They shatter the teeth of whoever attempts to eat them. But it's the only restaurant left at that point, so the citizens are left with no other options.
  • Literal Metaphor: Patrick asks his "man on the street" to say a few words. We see a guy actually standing on the street and reporting back. He gets run over by a passing car.
  • Mondegreen Gag: Patrick mishears Squidina saying "intervene" as "wolverine".
  • Piano Cover Slam: When Mr. Krabs is singing a piano jingle for the Krusty Krab, Plankton painfully slams the covers shut on his claws.
  • Power-Up Food: Pat the Hapless eats some chum that gives him extra strength, allowing him to defeat a monster. What doesn't help is that the commercial also shows how bad it smells and how disgusting it tastes beforehand.
  • Product-Promotion Parade: The Krusty Krab-sponsored Captain Quasar movie is nothing but constant shilling about how delicious the Krusty Krab's food is.
  • The End: Patrick's teeth crack from eating jelly rocks, and at the end, the only ones left are in the shape of the words "The End".

Neptune's Ball

Original air date: 4/27/2023

Patrick steals Lady Upturn's invitation to Neptune's ball. The family attend, but can't keep up with the fancy guests and cause trouble. Meanwhile, Upturn looks for a way to get back in.

Neptune's Ball contains examples of:

  • Big Eater: The first thing Patrick does at the ball is devour all the buffet food in one bite.
  • Black Comedy Burst: We see a room full of old men sharing hunting stories. When GrandPat rallies them all out of the room, the camera lingers on one man who's not moving and hasn't spoken throughout the scene, heavily implying he died.
  • Book Ends:
    • The episode begins with pink curtains opening, turning out to be on Patrick's show. It ends with these same curtains closing and covering the screen.
    • Patrick's first line in the episode is "But Lady Upturn, wait! I can do a lot worse!" His last line is "Let's take this party to someplace worse!"
  • Dance Party Ending: The episode ends with the Star family, King Neptune, and the people at the ball partying outside Patrick's house.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: The music that Squidina wants to play on the DJ's sound system is an instrumental of the show's theme song.
  • Fun with Homophones: Patrick comes across an invitation with the monogrammed letter "U" on it (for Upturn, its intended recipent). Squidina says, "oh, that means it's for you!" and Patrick accepts it.
  • Gale-Force Sound: Squidina turns up the DJ's music so loud that it blows the skin off everyone in the room.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: A very dark close-up of an animal skeleton is shown when the snake on Bunny's headdress eats part of the costume of another woman at the ball.
  • No Animals Allowed: Tinkle isn't allowed into the ball. To get them both in, Lady Upturn disguises him as a furniture delivery for a gold-plated toilet, then hides inside of him.
  • Piano Cover Slam: Cecil goes into the piano to take back some food he accidentally dropped in it. However, the cover slams shut and as the musician shows up, he finds strange noises when he tries playing it. Turns out the piano's hammers are slamming into Cecil.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: For the Humiliation Conga she has throughout the episode, it ends with Lady Upturn finally getting into Patrick's party and having fun with everyone else.
  • Toilet Humor: The episode begins with Patrick dancing on whoopee cushions, making fart sounds.
  • Trick Dialogue: After the Star family pull up to the ball, we get a close-up of a security guard's head as he tells someone that they're not allowed in. The cut shows that instead of the Stars, he's talking to Lady Upturn, whose invitation the family stole to get in.
