Recap / The Office USS 9 E 19 Stairmageddon

Go To

While the elevator in the building is shut down for maintenance, Dwight and Clark devise a way to force Stanley to go on a sales call, since the latter refuses to use the stairs.

Now convinced he is destined to be a star, Andy looks for an agent. Jim and Pam talk with Toby and Nellie about their marital problems. With the documentary about to out Robert Lipton as gay, Angela helps him solve the imminent PR crisis.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Stanley manages to close the sale, despite being intoxicated, simply by complimenting and cooing over the superintendent's grandchildren. He's rather pleased to discover that he managed to earn a large commission without actually putting in any effort.
  • Funny Background Event: After hearing the potency of Dwight's tranquilizer darts, Meredith curiously takes one, sprays it into her drink and drinks the mixed concoction.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the day, after Dwight, Clark, and a now sober Stanley return to the office having successfully closed a sale, Stanley still refuses to take the stairs and knocks himself out with one of Dwight’s darts, leaving the other two trying to figure out how to get him up the stairs.
  • Jerkass Realization: While he isn't really that much of a jerk (barring Dwight and some other people on occasion), Jim realizes, after chatting with Toby, that his habit of doing things without consulting Pam is likely taking its toll on her.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Stanley's reaction to finding out that the elevator is out is to angrily protest and yell at Dwight that he should have had elevator maintenance done during the evening. He has this reaction again when he finds out that he will have to go out to see a client to try and close a sale, refusing to leave the building.
