Tropes in this episode:

  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: When Esther reveals to Angela that Dwight plans on throwing the competition to let her win the competition and the prize money to help alleviate her financial burden, Angela becomes incensed, refusing to be seen as a Damsel in Distress and insists on asserting herself as a self-made woman. When its down to her paper airplane and Dwight's, she throws the challenge by crumpling up her paper airplane and throwing it in the opposite direction of where she is supposed to throw it after Dwight simply drops his on purpose. She then tosses a crumpled piece of paper in Esther's face out of spite.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Carla is incensed by Andy getting cold feet and threatens to blacklist him, tugging on his face angrily.
  • Eye Scream: In the Cold Open, Toby fails to watch where he's going and ends up getting Pam's paper airplane thrown into his eye. Andy later is forced to endure this when he has to use the eye wash in the lab safety video.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Angela, as usual. She insists that she doesn't need help and is a self-made woman who can take care of herself, but she is later seen hoarding toilet paper from the women's bathroom. Even when she realizes she's been spotted by the camera crew, she quickly pretends to be in a superior position by holding up her chin confidently.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Darryl manages to give Andy the pep talk he needs to go through with the video.
