Tropes

  • Bittersweet Ending: Erin decides to take a break from dating Andy feeling she can't trust him anymore. However, Michael is able to make her laugh with some jokes, and Andy leaves satisfied that at least someone made her happy on Secretary's Day.
  • Break the Cutie: Hearing about Andy's prior relationship is not good for Erin. And Andy afterwards.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Kevin gets back at Oscar for the "Cookie Monster" video by making his own video dubbing Oscar's voice over the Count. When everyone asks why he didn't choose Oscar the Grouch instead, Kevin answers that the Count counts numbers and wears purple, like Oscar.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Andy admonishes Michael for telling Erin about his prior engagement to Angela. However, Michael fires back that as Erin's boyfriend, he should've confided in her that he used to be engaged to someone who works four feet from her, instead of trusting Michael not to say anything when everyone knows how bad he is with keeping secrets.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Gabe attempts to assert himself as an authoritative figure by reprimanding anyone who makes fun of Kevin over the "Cookie Monster" video. This results in him suspending Pam without pay, followed by Jim for standing up for her, followed by Dwight just for applauding Gabe's actions, only to find out from corporate he doesn't have the authority to do so. Unfortunately for him, Pam and Jim find out the same thing from Toby and willingly allow themselves to be suspended, essentially getting several days off with pay. When the rest of the office realizes what happened, Gabe becomes a source of ridicule.
    • Then when he tries to save face by making fun of Kevin too, Kevin turns the tables on him by delivering a funny impression of him, causing everyone else to join in.
  • Innocently Insensitive: As typical for Dwight, his reaction to Pam suffering and not having her breast pump is offering himself to milk her.
  • Pie in the Face: Or rather, cake. Erin holds herself as much as she can when Andy starts talking about her, before exploding and throwing the slice she was eating in his face.
  • Recursive Adaptation: In-universe. Michael's audiobook is a novelization of the movie Precious: Based on the Novel "Push", by Sapphire. He could have just gotten the original novel.
  • Shout-Out: Oscar creates a video of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street with Kevin's voice dubbed in.
    • Michael justifies him blurting out Andy being engaged to Angela towards Erin by claiming that keeping a big secret is like Mr And Mrs Smith.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Everyone is confused by Kevin's Oscar/Count von Count video, except one person who finds it hilarious: Michael.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Michael casually mentions Andy’s previous engagement to Angela, unaware that Erin didn’t know about it.
