Pam and Jim work on their first sales pitch to a local restaurant, while Dwight encourages Kelly to try out for the minority training program.

La Tropas:

  • Bluff Worked Too Well: Michael, excited for his vacation to Mexico, attempts to speak to Jim in Spanish. Jim speaks in Spanish back, and Michael just laughs nervously.
  • El Spanish "-o": Michael attempts to learn Spanish before his trip to Cancun but has trouble remembering what words have "el" and "la" in front of him, to which Oscar has to keep exasperatedly reminding him. Michael eventually decides to help himself remember... by sticking post-it notes with either male or female genitals on them.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Pam, who guesses (correctly as it turns out) that Donna is showing subtle signs of being interested in Michael.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Dwight encouraged Kelly to apply for the minority executive training program as revenge for not being able to qualify for himself and to sabotage Darryl. Little did Dwight know that Darryl dropped out of the application and Kelly got qualified anyway, and Kelly is a more dangerously ambitious (and grudge-holding) person than he realized.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Darryl withdrew his application because he decided to follow his dreams and take a shot at the executive position.
Dwight: Just once, I would like to be a puppet master and have nothing go wrong. Is that too much to ask?
  • Only Sane Man: Jim during the negotiations for the printer.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Gabe cringed after he realized that remarking how the minority executive training program is "almost too black".
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: When Jim and Pam join forces for a dual sales pitch, Pam thinks this means the two of them becoming this and she starts wisecracking.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Dwight should have thought twice before trying to help Kelly get the executive position.
