Old vs. New: The Ten Commandments (1956) vs. The Prince of Egypt

Categories:

  • Best Moses: Chalrton Heston - He points out that Heston seemed more confident and more like a natural leader, as opposed to Kilmer's more human but meeker iteration.
  • Best Ramses: Ralph Fiennes - While he feels Fiennes portrayal is still very threatening, he comes off as more complex and sympathetic because of the psychological pressure of his father and the relationship he has with Moses as adoptive brothers, unlike Yul Brenner's incarnation, which he feels is completely cold-hearted.
  • Best Supporting Cast: The Ten Commandments - although he likes the supporting cast in both versions and feels the smaller one of The Prince of Egypt is more developed, he feels the one in The Ten Commandments is more interesting, especially Ramses' wife, who is absent in Prince and have more memorable performances from the actors.
  • Best God: Val Kilmer - He prefers the warm, loving version in the remake as opposed to the powerful, intimidating version in the original.
  • Best Story: The Prince of Egypt - He says the remake is more clever in certain areas and focuses on the relationship of the brothers where the original does not.

Winner: The Prince of Egypt (1998)

"Oh, Moses, Moses."
