Songs and Sketches

  • "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky", sung by Johnny Cash
  • UK Spot: "Goodnight Sardine", sung by Lew Zealand and the Gills Brothers
  • "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog", sung by Johnny
  • Fozzie's Act: Fozzie has to share the stage with Wally Whoopee.
  • "Orange Blossom Special/Jackson", sung by Johnny and Miss Piggy

This episode has examples of:

  • Bad Boss: Big Tiny Tallsaddle has a bad habit of wrapping microphones around the necks of those that upset him, as demonstrated by one unfortunate stagehand who dropped his guitar pick.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: When Johnny says he's about to perform Tallsaddle's favorite song, Rowlf asks to accompany him on the piano. He soon regrets it when Johnny sings that he's going to send the "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog" "to that great chicken house in the sky" if he doesn't stay out of his hen house.
  • Berserk Button: After Rowlf asserts he would never raid a hen house because he hates chickens, Gonzo becomes irate and orders his hens to start swarming.
  • Exact Words: After getting rid of Big Tiny Tallsaddle, Scooter says he could use some cash in return. Kermit says absolutely and introduces Johnny Cash's closing number.
  • Firing in the Air a Lot: The Martins and the Coys get a bit overly excited with their guns at the end of their musical number, to the point where they're still firing shots into the air when they get backstage, much to Kermit's chagrin.
Kermit: No shooting in the theater! [A hillbilly fires another shot.] No fighting in the theater either!
  • Guile Hero: Scooter gets rid of Big Tiny Tallsaddle by telling him that some kids are letting the air out of his horse and having Beauregard lock the door when Tallsaddle runs out. At the closing, Tallsaddle reenters, wanting to borrow a bicycle pump.
Tallsaddle: Well, I gotta pump up Ol' Paint before they tow him away!
  • I Warned You: When Rowlf wants to accompany his next song on piano, Johnny tries to dissuade him, but Rowlf insists. Johnny concedes but tells Rowlf not to say he wasn't warned. Sure enough, the song ends up being "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog".
  • Indy Ploy: When questioned over the "letting the air out of his horse" lie, Scooter says it was the only thing he could think of spur of the moment.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After Tallsaddle's comedian Wally makes Fozzie's act more awkward than usual and makes fun of him, Kermit vents all of his pent-up frustration on Big Tiny Tallsaddle.
  • That Came Out Wrong: At the end of "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog", Rowlf claims he wouldn't raid a hen house because he hates chickens. Unfortunately, Gonzo's hens don't take kindly to that remark and attack him.

Statler: What kind of show would you call that?
Waldorf: Frankly, I'd call it "Quits".
Statler & Waldorf: ...Quits! Quits!
