"What we're doing here, it's a parent's worst nightmare."
Written by Brad Marques
Directed by Liz Friedlander

"We are the last hope those prisoners have. You saw what they did to your friend. We sit on our hands, and that happens to more people."
Esme Frost

The Underground plans to rescue their fellow mutants from Trask Industries.

Tropes:

  • Downer Ending: The mission to rescue the mutants from Trask Industries is an abject failure. Not only do they fail to get into the lab, Blink, Dreamer and the Strucker siblings are captured trying to disable the power substation.
Reed: There's nothing we can do. It's over.
  • Incest Subtext: Between the Strucker siblings as they discuss how they felt when holding hands.
  • Internal Reveal: Reed tells his family what he learned from his father.
  • It Only Works Once: Andy tries to tear apart a Sentinel Services drone like he did last time, but they've since upgraded the drones and the one he tries it on takes refuge behind a pipe to avoid his attack.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Esme's rashness causes the mission to fail badly.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Esme uses her telepathic powers to give Polaris a nightmare in which her friends and her newborn child are captured by Sentinel Services to influence her into agreeing with the attack.
  • My Greatest Failure: John is still beating himself up over leaving Gus behind. Marcos assures him that they're all accountable for that mistake and he shouldn't shoulder it himself.
  • Mythology Gag: The Fenris Twins were a part of the Hellfire Club, a well-known organization X-Fans will know for their role in Jean's descent into madness and becoming Dark Phoenix.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Polaris roughing up the security guard for the power station had him take a sick day the next day. This tipped Jace into knowing the power station was going to be a target, allowing him to capture Clarice, Sonia, and the Strucker siblings.
  • Oh, Crap!: Andy's reaction when he sees that the Sentinels aren't effected by his powers anymore.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: While Andy was already one before, both he and Lauren become this to an even greater extent when holding hands. They could have easily brought the entire compound down and destroyed the power substation on their own.
  • Power High: Both Andy and Lauren are pretty scared after holding hands, as they both have a urge to do it again just to feel the massive power.
  • Properly Paranoid: Jace is absolutely sure that the Underground will move on Trask Industries next, even though they shouldn't know how to find it. He looks for every discrepancy and manages to uncover their plan, stopping it in its tracks.
  • Swapped Roles: Usually, Andy is the one making rash decisions and being pretty reckless with his powers. At the end of the episode, however, Andy stops Lauren from using their combined powers because it would destroy the power substation and everyone inside along with it.
  • Wonder Twin Powers: By holding hands, Andy and Lauren gain the power to vaporize anything around them. They never test it, but could have brought down the Mutant Underground headquarters and an entire power substation (from the basement).

"Get on your knees, now."
