Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 36 Perfect Day

Go To

On New Year's Day, Molly convinces Scratch to trap her in a time loop curse so she can have a "perfect day", but nothing goes right for her no matter how hard she tries.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: A day doesn't have to go as expected or planned, to have the best possible outcome.
  • Auto-Kitchen: Darryl acquires a pancake machine that cannot stop producing pancakes because it has No Off Button. The pancakes are later sold to fund pothole repairs.
  • Black Comedy: Darryl actually dies in this episode, though it's immediately undone by a restart.
  • Call-Back: The poster on the wall of Molly's prison cell says, "THIS IS NOT A GAME". This poster was last seen in "No Good Deed", when Darryl sent the teachers to prison and they thought it was a team-building exercise.
  • Continuity Nod: Sir Allister mentions the Chairman's rare curses, first seen in "All in the Mind". Molly is hearing about this for the first time, implying that this episode is a prequel to that one.
  • Cranial Eruption: A Running Gag has Scratch get a bump on the head every time he's startled by Molly's alarm clock. The first time it happens, Scratch pushes in the bump and it moves to his butt.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After spending the entire episode trying to have a perfect day, Molly finally has a great day after her family raised enough money to fix numerous potholes.
  • Eye Scream: One time loop shows Molly getting a fly in her eye.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: The entire episode is Molly restarting New Year's Day over and over until it goes perfectly. There's also an in-universe movie, Time Loop Rodent, which seems to be mostly the same premise except that the protagonist is cursed by a giant groundhog; Scratch and Molly watch it during one of the loops, and Molly concludes that she should have done this first to get a handle on the situation.
  • Here We Go Again!: Not long after Molly woke up on January 2nd, she attempted to make Scratch to give her more rare curses. The ghost tried to get her to stop, but it was no use.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • One iteration of the loop shows Molly getting sent to jail, while another results in Darryl somehow dying, neither of which is explained.
    • How did Libby's bookstore caught on fire?
    • Molly somehow ended up in a body cast.
  • Opening Shout-Out: After Molly steps on a puddle, she asks, "Is there a way to hit restart?", complete with the video player controls, before Scratch tells her, "Nope."
  • Overly Long Gag: Scratch eating pancakes and hitting his head in his dollhouse.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Molly has another one of her insane moments when she demands that Scratch cast the time loop curse - this time, complete with red eyes.
  • Series Continuity Error: One part of the time loop shows Molly and Scratch getting all the animals back into the County Fair. Molly, Pete, Sharon, and Totes got banned in "Goat Your Own Way", but here, the photos of them and the word "Banned" are nowhere to be seen.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Sir Alister tells Scratch that as the Chairman, he now has access to rare curses. He also told Molly about the Time Loop curse which sets the plot into motion.
