"Screw Up in Aisle Six" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Don't consume things you're allergic to just because your friend persuades you to.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: Rodney and Andy roleplay as British folks talking in an old-fashioned manner.
Rodney: I say, British Andy, what do you think of this establishment?
Andy: Actually, British Rodney, this supermarket leaves my crumpets a bit cold.
Rodney: (laughs weirdly) Jolly good, British Andy!
  • Balloon Belly:
    • Andy bloats up severely as an allergic reaction to eating chicken nuggets with cashews in them.
    • After Mr. J licks an unspecified flavor of pie at the end of the episode, he falls to the same fate as his son.
  • Big Eater: Rodney devours the entire plate of chicken nugget samples the moment after the server offers him and Rodney a plate of them.
Food Server: Uh, care to try some Nugget Nuggets?
Rodney: Well, I, uh-(instantly takes the plate and shoves all the nuggets down his throat)
  • Break the Cutie: Andy swells and bloats up severely as an allergic reaction and has to be rolled around like a ball by Rodney while looking for lettuce juice to cure his condition. He is embarrassed by his predicament as he bumps into and knocks down many shelves and is looked askance by the shoppers and employees.
  • Department of Redundancy Department:
    • Mrs. J telling Andy to make sure Rodney makes sure Andy doesn't eat anything he shouldn't.
    • One of the products sold at the supermarket is a brand of chicken nuggets called "Nugget Nuggets".
  • Didn't Think This Through: On both Rodney and Andy's parts.
    • Rodney is told by Mrs. J to make sure Andy doesn't eat any food samples that contain his allergies. Then, he encourages Andy to devour a whole plate of chicken nugget samples. It is only after Andy eats the nuggets that Rodney realizes they contain one of his allergies (cashews).
    • This is also a mistake on Andy's part, as his mom tells him to make sure Rodney makes sure he doesn't eat anything he is allergic to.
Andy: (while being rolled around by Rodney) I'm gonna get in so much trouble for letting you let this happen.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end, just as Andy is cured, Mr. J eats an unspecified flavor of pie and then falls victim to the same allergic reaction that Andy did.
  • Idiot Ball: A sign listing the ingredients of the chicken nuggets is right in front of Andy, but he doesn't notice it. Though this ignorance isn't as bad as him being submissive enough to Rodney pressuring him into eating the nuggets. Andy even acknowledges his food allergies and the risks that could come with trying a sample, but then goes along with Rodney's "scientific certainty" that there are no cashews in the nuggets.
  • If It Tastes Bad, It Must Be Good for You: Mr. J is not a big fan of healthy food.
Mrs. J: Until the next fad comes along, this family is going to start eating healthy.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Rodney's comeuppance is served when he is grabbed by Lulu, then flung into many food items and finally into the oven at an extremely hot temperature (described on the oven as "You Don't Want to Even Know"), where he is baked into a pie.
  • Running Gag: Andy escapes every time Rodney gets distracted or in a mismatch with a fellow shopper.
  • Spoof Aesop: Andy delivers a rather questionable moral when asked by his dad if he learned anything from his predicament, which even Mr. J agrees with despite being the Only Sane Man.
Mr. J: Now, did you learn anything from this, son?
Andy: You bet! If you're gonna eat stuff you shouldn't, do not get caught.
    Mr. J: Exactly.
  • You Do Not Want To Know: Andy subtly explains what will happen if he consumes cashews to Rodney.
Andy: With my food allergies, one minute I could be trying a free sample and the next, BAM! You don't want to know what happens after "BAM!".
