Recap / She Ra And The Princesses Of Power S 1 E 03 Razz

Go To

Glimmer concocts a plan to introduce Adora to Bright Moon, but it all goes wrong. Adora flees into the woods, where she meets an old woman named Razz.

Tropes:

  • Berserker Tears: Catra sheds some after seeing the bunk she used to share with Adora, as well as a drawing of the two of them together, before she destroys both in a fit of tearful rage.
  • Demoted to Extra: The furry commander of the Horde that appears in this episode is Grizzlor. He was a major member of the Horde in the original series, but he is now delegated to a single episode.
  • The Dreaded: Catra is afraid of Shadow Weaver, but her meeting with Hordak makes it clear she is even more afraid of him.
  • Evil Gloating: Catra literally has to stuff her fist into her mouth to stifle her laughter when Hordak upbraids Shadow Weaver, saying it's Shadow Weaver's fault if Catra isn't as good a potential Force Captain as Adora.
  • Evil Is Not Well-Lit: Hordak is introduced as a silhouette in a dark sanctum, with only his crimson eyes and the lights on his armor illuminated.
  • Freak Out: Adora accidentally gives Swift Wind wings and a horn. Swift Wind immediately freaks out, trying to shake off his sudden new appendages.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Swift Wind makes sure to tell Adora (through Razz) that Horsey is a stupid name.
  • History Repeats: Razz implies that she's seen what the Horde has been doing to Etheria happen before when she and Adora come across an area devastated by them.
Razz: Ah, it's the same old story, dearie. Wicked people destroy what they cannot control.
  • Legacy Character: Adora turns out to not be the first She-Ra. Razz mentions a woman named Mara.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Razz mentions her broom being alive. In the original series, he was.
    • She also mentions Loo-Kee, who is always hiding, in reference to the same character from the original series, who was almost always hiding in a single frame of the original episodes. A picture of him also appears on a fan that Razz packs into her basket.
  • Psychoactive Powers: Adora can't transform into She-Ra until she is confident of who she wants to be.
  • Rank Up: Shadow Weaver takes Catra to Hordak in order to have her disciplined for falling to retrieve Adora. Instead, after finding out that they are now one Force Captain short, he promotes Catra and gives her Adora's former position.
  • Smoke Out: When She-Ra is knocked out by the laser cannon, Razz throws some explosive berries at the ground and escapes in the confusion.
  • The Stars Are Going Out: Razz mournfully asks what happened to the stars, hinting that the Alien Sky might not be natural.
  • Tears of Joy: As Adora is welcomed by the Rebellion and embraced by Glimmer and Bow, her eyes fill with tears.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: Bow warns that this will be the reaction if Adora goes into the village with her horde clothes on.
