"I see them."
Angelica

A woman named Angelica "births" the psychic connection of eight people around the world, before killing herself to avoid capture by a man who has been hunting her. The eight experience the beginnings of their psychic connection, by hearing what the others hear and seeing what the others see.

Riley meets a powerful dealer named Nyx, becoming entangled in London's drug world. Sun faces sexism in her father's company. Capheus' matatu business is failing. Lito turns down the sexual advances of a female co-star of his, telling her he loves someone else. Nomi spends time with her girlfriend Amanita, recalling she fell in love with her when Amanita defended her against transgender discrimination. Kala is about to marry Rajan, a man she does not love. Will brings a young gangster who has been shot to the hospital. Wolfgang and his best friend Felix steal diamonds that Wolfgang's gangster cousin, Steiner, had been planning to steal.

In Chicago, Will decides to investigate the church in which Angelica killed herself; Riley appears there too, through her and Will's connection. Back in London, Riley's boyfriend attempts to rob Nyx, and the ensuing fight ends with Riley the only survivor in the room.

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Ate His Gun: Angelica shoots herself in the mouth.
  • Birth-Death Juxtaposition: Angelica "births" a new cluster right before killing herself.
  • Blood-Splattered Innocents: Riley gets blood splashed on her when guns start going off in Nyx's apartment, contrasting sharply with her white hair and shirt.
  • Compartment Shot: A shot from inside the safe onto the diamonds in the foreground and Wolfgang and his friend in the background.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • Will going out of his way to save a kid dying of a gunshot wound.
    • Wolfgang taking a break from safecracking to watch a singing contest then having flashbacks of his father laughing at him during a performance.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Riley isolates herself by wearing headphones. Lampshaded by Nyx who mentions that he also used to shut himself in like she does.
  • I'm Cold... So Cold...: In the backseat of the police car the boy with the gutshot mentions that he's cold.
  • It Always Rains at Funerals: It's raining at Wolfgang's grandfather's funeral.
  • Just in Time: Wolfgang and his companion crack the safe and leave with the diamonds right before Steiner's men enter the building.
  • Last Disrespects: Wolfgang hated his father and thus pisses on his grave while visiting after his grandfather's funeral.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: Sort of. We see Will in Angelica's vision, but our first shot of him in the series proper is as a child searching for a missing girl.
  • Open the Iris: When Riley inhales from the drug pipe, we get a close-up on her iris widening.
  • Pride Parade: It's Pride Week in San Francisco. Nomi and Amanita reminisce about the first time they attended the festivities together and spend an evening watching a performance honoring AIDS victims.
  • Proscenium Reveal: Lito's storyline appears to start with him blowing a hole in someone's head, before it's revealed to be for a show he's doing.
  • Shout-Out: Diego references Doctor Strange and The X-Files when talking about Will.
  • Title Drop: By Nyx, who explains what limbic resonance is when talking to Riley and her friends about a drug.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: The flashback to Nomi and Amanita's first Pride establishes that Amanita is this for Nomi.
Nomi: You say one more thing about my girlfriend and I'll "colonize" your face with my fist.
