Tropes

  • The Bus Came Back: Whip, the kid from the car theft ring in "Octane", returns now on parole as an informant for Streer.
  • End of an Era: Hicks directly calls Mumford handing in his 30 day notice as one of these for S.W.A.T.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Invoked; since Deacon is short on cash, the Loan Shark he's dealing with has him tip off the L.A.P.D. about a gang of drug dealers who are causing trouble for the residents in his mother's neighbourhood.
  • Feeling Their Age: One of the reasons Mumford gives for handing in his resignation to Hicks and Cortez, admitting he's having difficulty keeping up with Rocker and the younger men on his team.
  • Hired Guns: The initial villains of the episode turn out to be hired goons working for the Sicilian Mafia, stealing the cars so the Mafia can recover the heroin that a traitor in their ranks hid within the vehicles during their manufacture.
  • Know When to Fold Them: After taking a glancing shot to the head, and feeling his age, Mumford decides to call it quits with S.W.A.T. before he ends up making a career-ending mistake like Buck.
Mumford: I'd rather leave a day early, than a day late.
  • Odd Friendship: Street and his tech-savvy friend, Whip.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: As it turns out, the reason why the cars are being stolen is because a member of the Sicilian Mafia stole a large quantity of heroin and stashed it in the cars while they were being made, hoping to sneak the drugs past Customs and then sell the heroin to the cartels and the cars to auto dealers to make a profit for himself. The Mafia took a dim view of his actions, hunted him down and killed him; a crime scene photo 20 Squad finds shows the guy propped up against his car, riddled with bullets, with the word "Traditore" written in blood on the side of his car.
