Written and storyboarded by Benton Connor and Madeline Queripel.

Second half of the second Christmas Episode. A more dramatic episode where Eileen has a Christmas party and, to Mordecai's horror and chagrin, Margaret (his ex-girlfriend) is invited and meets Mordecai's new girlfriend, C.J. — and a grave mistake may cost Mordecai the love of the girl he really likes.

Tropes

  • Big Damn Kiss: Subverted with Rigby, who kisses Eileen in a bit of bro-prompting and doesn't make a huge deal of it.
  • Call-Back: Mordecai awkwardly brings up the events of Yes Dude Yes when pointing out CJ and Margaret had already met.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Rigby still utilizes "pulling a Mordecai".
    • Celia appears on Eileen's party. She's still dating High Fives and they kiss under the mistletoe.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: A literal version of this in Mordecai's Imagine Spot.
  • Downer Ending: Mordecai and Margaret kiss in front of CJ who runs off in tears, possibly ending their relationship.
  • Frothy Mugs of Water: When Mordecai takes CJ for drinks they find a bunch of different types of ginger ale, obviously substituting for booze.
  • Hope Spot: Just as soon as Mordecai and Margret are happy with each other, and remember all the good times together, they accidently kissed each other IN FRONT OF CJ.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: After Mordecai finds Margaret at the post office, he makes up a story about Benson asking him to go to a different post office across town... running. It's not very convincing, of course.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: It applies to both Mordecai and Margaret. He tells CJ he has no feelings towards Margaret anymore yet he acts extremely nervous and awkward around her (although that anxiety is more from concerns that he will cause problems if the two meet; he actually does make it clear that he has moved on); at the same time, she claims to be happy for Mordecai finding a new girlfriend and moving on while also acting a little awkward with him. All of this takes a turn for the worse when they kiss.
  • Mood Whiplash: Watching the gleefully warped White Elephant Gift Exchange only to be followed by one of the most heartbreakingly sad episodes the show's ever done is quite jarring.
  • Poor Communication Kills: While hanging the Christmas decorations, Muscle Man asks Mordecai if he should move a Santa figure to the left while Mordecai is having an Imagine Spot, when said spot ends, Mordecai screams "NOOOO!" so Muscle Man leaves the Santa on the spot. And of course, the santa falls off the roof taking down Muscle Man, High Fives, Mordo, and Rigby.
  • Properly Paranoid: Mordecai panics at the thought that he will mess things up should Margaret and CJ meet. Subverted when the two actually meet and nothing happens. Then played brutally straight when they kiss in front of CJ, validating Mordecai's fears.
  • Ship Sinking: It would appear Mordecai and CJ are finished after Margaret and Mordecai kiss in front of her. Averted in the next episode where CJ forgives Mordecai and gives their relationship another chance
  • Ship Tease: More from Eileen and Rigby (first he gives her the mistletoe disco ball and then kisses her on the cheek after Mordecai pushes him to do it).
  • Spit Take: Mordecai does one after Eileen tells him Margaret will be at the party.
  • Wham Episode: See Downer Ending and "What Now?" Ending.
  • "What Now?" Ending: After CJ leaves the party, Mordecai goes to the spare room to find his phone and talk to her, however he notices the boxes with Margaret's stuff, then Eileen tells him that Margaret will stay in town as her new roommate. Afterwards, Mordecai and Margaret look at each other confused about what happened and what the future holds.
