Mission to Mars

Jet, Sydney, and Mindy bring Mars to Sean.
  • Captain's Log: Sean records a tape while he's on "Mars."
Sean: Captain's log. T-minus two days to haircut. On a Mars mission. My team and I will explore all of Mars. I will lead them. We'll look at rocks, mountains, and for any signs of possible water.
  • Character Development: In "Backyard Moon Base," Sean struggled at using his imagination. In this episode, he uses his imagination to pretend that he's on Mars, and has fun with it.
  • Cheer Up Episode: In this episode, Sean is down in the dumps about how it may not be possible to go on a long-term mission to Mars. Jet, Sydney, and Mindy are determined to cheer him up, and decide to make their own version of Mars at the treehouse.
  • I'm Okay!: Sean stands on top of Mount Sharp (a pile of boxes), which then collapses. His friends are worried, but Sean cheerfully affirms that he's okay.
  • The Power of Friendship: Friendship is pretty much what cheered Sean up.
Mindy: Sean, you know we really didn't take you to Mars today, right?
Sean: Yeah, I know. Maybe this mission was just practice. But with friends, like you guys, there's no limit to where we can go.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In this episode, Sean isn't a Butt-Monkey for once. His friends listen to and respect him while they pretend to be on Mars.

Sounds Abound

Sean wants to perform his sound experiment, but keeps getting interrupted by outside noises.
  • An Aesop: Sean learns that performing experiments is better when he's doing them with his friends.
  • Deep-Fried Whatever: Carrot is cooking deep-fried lollipops. And judging from Mindy's reaction, it's not the first time he's done this.
  • Dreadful Musician: Mindy's flugelhorn playing isn't the best. She says that her parents told her to play it outside because it would sound "even better" there, but it's clear they didn't want to hear the music.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After Sean sees his friends making music with cooking items, he realizes how he can perform his sound experiment. He even shouts "Eureka!" followed by "Whatever that means."
  • Individualism vs. Collectivism: This episode is a good example of how the show reinforces collectivism and teamwork in regards to science. Sean wants to do his sound experiment alone and quietly but realizes that he needed his friends' noises all along. Sean was much more successful with his friends than without them.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Sean goes to Mindy's yard, he thinks it's quiet, since she's never in her yard. Then Mindy walks by, playing her flugelhorn.
  • It's All About Me: Mindy wants Sean to be successful in his sound experiment for a selfish reason.
Sean: I'm just gonna give up on this experiment. There's no way to learn about sound in a noisy world, I guess.
Mindy: I can't let you give up, Sean!
Sean: Really? I didn't know you cared so much, Mindy.
Mindy: Course I do! If you don't do your science experiment, you won't go to astronaut school, and then you won't become an astronaut, and then you won't discover a new planet and name it after me, and it will all be because of my flugelhorn.
  • Jerkass Ball: Downplayed. Sean is crabbier than usual in this episode and doesn't want his friends to help. However, in this case, it's understandable because he just wants some peace and quiet to work on his sound experiment. He eventually learned that he needed his friends' noise for the experiment. And, it's easy to sympathize with both parties: Sean wanted peace and quiet, while his friends just wanted to help and stopped bothering Sean when he asked them to.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: When Sean tells Jet that he's working on a sound experiment, Jet stretches his ears and says that it "''Sounds like fun." Sean and Sunspot give him annoyed glares.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Sydney, playing with her Commander Cressida toy, pretends to fight the "bad hamster robot people of the future."
  • The Power of Friendship: Sean tries to conduct his sound experiment alone, but learns that teamwork is vital to science research.
  • Shave And A Haircut: Sunspot plays this seven-note tune using glasses of water.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Carrot and Celery end up fawning over each other when they both end up in a bucket in the garage. Jet and Sean are rather disturbed by this.
    Celery: You're the greatest...
    Carrot: No, you are....
    Jet: Uh, shall we go?
    Sean: PLEASE.
  • Trash-Can Band: Towards the end of the episode, the characters create music using a grater, a bowl, a spoon, a juice box, and a water bottle.
