NCIS is called to investigate when a dead Navy petty officer shows up, but all is not as it seems; Ziva's father visits.- Awkward Father-Son Bonding Activity: In the Cold Open, a father and son are taking part in a fishing activity. The son initially isn't too fond until one of them reels in an ear. Suddenly, it's the most badass fishing trip ever.

- While sifting through a box of old stuff, Tony finds the soul patch and and busker gear during his undercover stint.
- McGee also finds his bellhop outfit from "Under Covers," while Ziva finds the dress she wore ("briefly" she says as she tosses it at Tony, who had played her newlywed husband in that operation).
- Over lunch, Eli and Ziva briefly discuss their family friend Shmeil Pinkus, who appeared two episodes prior.
- Character Death: Both Eli David and Jackie Vance.
- Cyanide Pill: The assassin who murdered Eli David and Jackie Vance is wounded and cornered by Gibbs and Ziva, but bites a poisoned cigarette rather than let himself be captured.
- Found the Killer, Lost the Murderer: Just as Gibbs and Ziva catch up to the wounded assassin, he poisons himself.
- Gory Discretion Shot: We never see Jackie Vance get shot, nor the aftermath, just Vance covered in her blood and trying to tend to her.
- Harsher in Hindsight: Both scenes involving Ziva discussing her undercover case as a pregnant woman comes off as this in the wake of "Family First." Particularly the beginning scene, in which Tony tells Ziva she looked good pregnant and she responds with "still would."
- Heroic BSoD: When Jackie dies in the OR, Vance looks like his world just ended.Vance: She's dead. My wife is dead, Gibbs.
- How Dare You Die on Me!: Ziva's anger at the shooter's death is because he took the identity of his handler to his grave.
- I Am Spartacus: Lampshaded by Tony, when all four of the sailors who might have been implicated in a crime by the victim's reporting confess to killing him.
- Ironic Echo:Ziva: What if someone saw you? ... Surely you still have enemies who want you dead.
Eli: You think(?) - Malaproper: Eli does this, explaining to Ziva why he's in the United States. Ziva corrects him.Eli: As your agent Gibbs would say, this is not my first radio.
Ziva: Rodeo. - Not His Blood: When Tony and McGee show up at Vance's house, they see him with blood on his shirt. It's actually Jackie's blood.
- So Happy Together: The Vances have a few sweet moments throughout the episode, foreshadowing her fate.
- Verbal Backspace: When Tony tells Luke Grismer that Tyler Wilkes is dead.Luke: Dead? I didn't kill...I mean, who?
