"So, yeah, I'm worried. For what, though, I'm not sure. But whatever it is... it's coming."
- Mr. Robot

'Mr. Robot argues with Magda and a young Elliot

Set up in a hotel room, Darlene monitors the Deus Group's communications as the time of their meeting draws near. Mr. Robot arrives, which makes Darlene suspicious. Mr. Robot explains that only Elliot can tell her where he has been, and redirects focus on the Deus Group. Price joins them, asking for a favor: he wants Elliot to destroy Whiterose's machine. Mr. Robot questions Price's motive, to which he explains that the machine was important to Angela. He gives Mr. Robot a thumb drive containing all of the data on Whiterose's project and machine before leaving. He joins Minister Zhang at the meeting location across the street.

During the wait, Mr. Robot informs Darlene of Price's relationship with Angela. Darlene is left incredulous that Angela never told her, but Mr. Robot suggests that Angela didn't know. Darlene requests that they drop the conversation, and Mr. Robot reluctantly accepts. He quickly becomes suspicious after noticing that no one has entered or exited the meeting location since Price arrived. Inside, Price is frisked by Zhang's security before joining him for a drink. Mr. Robot ponders on how Elliot would approach the situation, and remembers that Elliot saved an image of Tyrell's phone, which Mr. Robot inspects to see if the parameters of the meeting were altered by Whiterose in any way. Darlene takes over, looking in Tyrell's calendar. Meanwhile, Zhang questions Price about what Elliot is planning, noting Price's resignation and Elliot's disappearance as suspicious. He gives Price an ultimatum: reveal Elliot's plan and receive a quick, painless death via maitotoxin, or refuse, and suffer a much worse fate.

At the hotel, Darlene discovers that the venue for the Deus Group meeting was switched to the Cipriani on Broadway. Mr. Robot concludes that Whiterose is across the street based on the heavy security detail and Price not being aware of the venue change. Choosing to stay, Mr. Robot tells Darlene to handle the Deus Group meeting. Price dismisses Zhang as being paranoid, and Zhang is informed that Tyrell has still not been found despite the fevered search across the tri-state area.

Tropes

  • Bolivian Army Ending: The episode ends in this note as Whiterose is busy applying makeup as the FBI, being alerted to her crimes come to arrest her and engage the Dark Army in her mansion.
  • Call-Back: Price notes his meeting with Zhang as he calls himself a mercenary as he will gladly watch Zhang fall even if Price falls as well.
  • Character Death:
    • Price, having thoroughly relished in the satisfaction of victory, is gunned down by an enraged Zhang.
    • The same can be said for Zhang himself, as his crimes are put on full display for the world to see. Seeing no other choice, Whiterose abandons the persona to continue her mission.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: The robbery of the Deus Group. Never before in the series has victory been so sweet and crime paid so exuberantly. Elliot and Mr. Robot emerge as champions, having finally accomplished what they originally set out to do: the biggest redistribution of wealth in history. Darlene comes in at a close second, being the one who brilliantly corralled the Deus Group and sniffed out every single one of their accounts before encrypting the funds within. Lastly, we have none other than Phillip Price, a man without many fans both in and out of the series, systematically destroying Zhang's hubris and writing off his machine as a fraud. All the while, he proclaims that Angela did not die in vain; his daughter lives on in those who loved her. While Price dies for his impudence, he does it as a man who finally defeated his nemesis after years of being walked over, and boy, did he do it in style.
  • Foreshadowing: Note how "Magda", "Young Elliot" and Mr. Robot talk about Elliot's antics as "he" while mentioning Elliot in third-person.
  • Here We Go Again!: Mr. Robot is back in control of Elliot, but this time only so that the hack is completed in time.
  • Hourglass Plot: Season 4 began with Elliot focused on taking down Whiterose and the Deus Group while Darlene was completely broken over Angela's death. In the previous episode, Elliot was completely broken and depressed to the point where he couldn't do the hack, which is what makes Darlene take over and work with Mr. Robot. However, Elliot snaps out of it and assists her with the hack, and successfully takes down Whiterose herself.
  • Indy Ploy: Elliot and Darlene find out that Whiterose has switched the Deus Group meeting to the Cipriani, a private club in downtown Manhattan with tight security. So Darlene gets on TV and, in her FSociety guise, announces the existence of the Deus Group to the world along with the meeting's location. This freaks out the group members who flee the club, enabling Darlene and Elliott to hack their cellphones and execute the hack.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The camera clearly pauses on an Expy of Donald Trump, recognizable due to Trump's iconic hairstyle, who is only seen from behind, during the tracking shot of the Deus Group party.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Wang Shu gets fed up with Whiterose's insistence regarding Elliot, and flees the organization minutes before Elliot and Darlene hack all of their phones.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: The entire episode is wrought with nail-biting tension, but in the end, not only does Elliot and Darlene succeed in owning the Deus Group, doxxing them and bleeding their Cyprus National Bank accounts dry, but Zhang is left humiliated by Price in the aftermath. The only downside to this outcome is that Zhang shoots Price to death out in the open, but even then, Zhang ends up incriminating himself on top of losing his money. As Zhang is escorted away, he spots Elliot watching him from afar, and realizes just how badly he has been defeated.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: In Elliot's mindscape, Mr. Robot and the other personalities talk about what will happen if "he" takes back control.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Zhang undergoes a terrifying one as he kills Price in rage after losing all his money to the hack.
  • Wham Episode: The hack built up this season is completed, the Deus Group are exposed and then lose all their money, Whiterose is exposed as the mastermind behind the Dark Army and shoots Price in rage.
