In the Season 2 finale, Angela makes an unexpected acquaintance; Darlene realizes she's in deep, and an old friend reveals all to Elliot.
Tropes:
- Agonizing Stomach Wound: After refusing to let Stage 2 happen, Elliot ends up getting shot in the stomach by Tyrell.
- The Bus Came Back: Leon reappears in the post-credits scene along with Mobley and Trenton, both of whom went missing following the leak of Project Berenstain several episodes back.
- Chekhov's Gun: A literal example with Darlene's gun, which Tyrell uses to shoot Elliot.
- Cliffhanger: Elliot is shot by Tyrell, Darlene is in the FBI's custody, and Angela is seemingly cooperating with the Dark Army.
- Greek Chorus: Frank Cody's "What Is Really Happening?" segment on his show at the end.
- Irony: The one time Elliot actively refuses to believe in what he is seeing is the time where he is actually wrong. Case in point: Tyrell is not being another one of Mr. Robot's illusions.
- Mortal Wound Reveal: After Tyrell shoots him, Elliot looks down to see his stomach bleeding. This in fact confirms that Tyrell is indeed real.
- Once More, with Clarity: Mr. Robot and Tyrell's negotiation from season one is revisited, but from Tyrell's perspective, and with a prolonged exchange afterward that sets up his return.
- The Reveal: Tyrell is alive, stage two is shown to be the destruction of E Corp's paper records, Joanna's stalker turns out to have been Scott Knowles who wanted revenge for his wife's murder, and the FBI have had tabs on every major player in the 5/9 hack the entire season.
- Smash to Black: The episode quite literally ends with one, set to a total blackout of New York City's power grid. The post-credits scene.
- The Stinger: Mobley and Trenton appear to be in hiding working at Fry's Electronics. The trope above shows that they are not out of the Dark Army's reach.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Said to Darlene by Dom. It remains to be seen if Dom was genuine.
